'Maverick' wanders into the wrong herd

Washington (CNN) – Those of us who've walked into the wrong classroom or business meeting know the feeling; the sudden sensation of oops, the quick apology, the urge to back away without losing too much dignity. One United States senator had exactly that feeling Wednesday.

Republican John McCain accidentally walked in on a Capitol Hill meeting Democrats were having with President Barack Obama.

In response to media reports Wednesday afternoon, McCain tweeted: "I opened the wrong door, looked in and saw the President, said "my mistake" and everybody laughed."

"Lighten up everybody," the tweet continued.

McCain did not stay for the meeting despite what was reportedly a good-natured invitation from Obama to join Senate Democrats. Obama met with Congressional Democrats Wednesday to push agenda items like the economy, climate change and ensuring the implementation of Obamacare.

The 2008 nominee for president, McCain has become more and more prominent as something of an intermediary in Congress recently, planning a trip to Egypt at Obama's request, praising the president's speech about the Trayvon Martin verdict while calling for a review of Stand Your Ground laws and even calling a presidential race between fellow Republican Rand Paul and Democrat Hillary Clinton a "tough choice."

Pretty sure McCain won't be running for another term. Between some of the things he's said lately and this faux pas I can see both the GOP and the Democrats will have plenty of 30 second ad material.

Where was the Secret Service? I can't believe that he Sen. McCain was just allowed to open a close door and peak in. Something wrong with this story. The key word being "story". When was the last time CNN actually looked for the truth.

A rest home awaits this old man, preferably one with locked doors! He's become a traitor to the GOP he professes to represent.

Bryan Koenig should be embarrassed to cover such an unimportant, ridiculous nonevent. CNN, shame on you for calling this news.

A Senior moment as early during the day he had an interview and spoke on all topics but at the end he said he wanted to be President. Well like Romney it seems McCain is living the what if. McCain owes a lot of favors because of his promise to bomb Iran and continue the Wars for the War Profiteers.

The real McCain is back. Love it. If he had acted this way when he ran and not picked she whose name may not be spoken as his running mate – he might have won it. Instead he wandered into the darkness of the super right wing and got his hat handed to him.

Pretty sure he didn't tweet pictures of his "junk" so he's far ahead of the game.

This ain't so bad. Now, if he pulls down his pants and takes a large steaming grumpy on the floor of the senate while whistling the theme to the Andy Griffith show, then there's got a major problem.

Two people in D.C. that still have a sense of humor; it's a start.
Exactly, even the President and McCain seemed to get a laugh out of it, its just part of life, we've all walked into the wrong room at some point. Anyone playing this up is just a partisan hack. As they said 'Lighten up'

His views are no longer relevant. He is to old to be making choices for this nation. He is stuck in the mind set that he is the answer and has the answer to all problems and sadly when it involves foreign affairs he is to quick to just to a military solution. I respect his service to this nation in battle and in office but his days are done for making choices for America. Out with the old in with the new. Once a narrow minded GOP always one. Cant teach an old dog new tricks and right now his tricks are hurting the USA more than helping.
