Bush undergoes heart procedure

(CNN) - Former President George W. Bush, 67, underwent a procedure Tuesday morning to have a stent placed in his heart one day after a blockage was discovered in an artery, according to a statement from his office.

In the statement released by Bush's spokesman, the procedure was "performed successfully," without complication, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

"President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday. He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him," the statement read.

The blockage was found during Bush's annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas on Monday.

"He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes. And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups," the statement continued.

The 43rd president was known for having relatively good health during his tenure at the White House. For exercise, he was an active runner and frequently rode his mountain bike.

According to his 2006 annual exam, his medical history at the time showed no signs of hypertension or stroke, and he had 'low' to 'very low' coronary artery disease risk profile with a favorable family medical history and absence of modifiable risk factors.

The report also stated he had "minimal/mild" coronary artery calcification, a fairly common sign of early artery disease in which the lining of aortic wall becomes inflamed and plaque starts to build up over time. Calcium deposits begin to form in the artery wall.

Bush's statement Tuesday did not release details on whether his artery blockage was related to his past medical history.

Also, the White House announced in August 2007 that Bush was treated the year prior for Lyme disease. A White House spokesman at the time told CNN that it is "not uncommon" for Bush to get tick bites during his bike rides.

Lyme disease can be transmitted through the bite of a tick that carries the disease. The problem had been resolved, with no re-occurrence and no other symptoms, the White House said six years ago.

His 2007 physical exam also reported bouts of mild vertigo, but it did not interfere with his work.

So what if I didn't vote for W twice...and even though the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression happened under W's watch(and I've been very angry about that)...W. was OUR president...hope and prayers for our former president.

Rudy, You keep ignoring the fact that the housing bubble, when it popped it helped take down the economy (Frank and Dodd, were DEMS). Neither one of them did anything to reel in FANNIE MAE or FREDDY MAC.
What are you talking about? Frank and Dodd were not chairing any committees, dude. Republicans had been running the House and chairing committees since 1994. That means the only policies that came out of the House were those put in place by Republicans....which means that Frank and Dodd were not running Fannie or Freddy. Do you know who does?

I believe more than ever that the Bush administration masterminded 9-11 to gain control over us with fear tactics.
Now they have free reign to SPY on us on EVERY LEVEL, to keep us safe from the "terrorists". This has been their dream for decades. To have the ability to know every little secret about your life on so many levels is ILLEGAL and INSANE!

Conservatives like to point at the clock,
Not just conservatives, Rudy! Didn't you just take us back to 2005?

It's like Republicans were running the kitchen when a shift change came along. The Democrat punches in, looks in the oven, inds a totally burnt cake, and is blamed for it by the Republican who just left the kitchen. "You were here when it happened." No, you put the cake in the oven and forgot about it.
Perfect anology to explain the failure of Fannie and Freddie. Just that the Dems burned the cake and left the kitchen!

    @Wake up:

Again, based on my observations, this is my perception. You conveniently left out (a common theme amongst partisans on both sides) that Santorum, who couldn't even hear the remarks, later denounced that remark when he found out that was said. The difference is that most liberal political figures probably would have laughed at them, and then continued attempting to ridicule every Republican in America. Without a doubt, there are some conservatives and Republicans who do wish ill will upon other party members. It just seems to me like it comes a lot more from the left. I'm just sayin...

I doubt she was the First Lady while in high school. She was concerned with the education of our youth and the current First Lady is concerned about the health and fitness of our youth. Great focus for the both of them!

As far as reading to grade school kids: most likely in shock, like the rest of us and maybe, just maybe he did not want to scare his audience! No way possible, huh?
