Bush undergoes heart procedure

(CNN) - Former President George W. Bush, 67, underwent a procedure Tuesday morning to have a stent placed in his heart one day after a blockage was discovered in an artery, according to a statement from his office.

In the statement released by Bush's spokesman, the procedure was "performed successfully," without complication, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

"President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday. He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him," the statement read.

The blockage was found during Bush's annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas on Monday.

"He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes. And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups," the statement continued.

The 43rd president was known for having relatively good health during his tenure at the White House. For exercise, he was an active runner and frequently rode his mountain bike.

According to his 2006 annual exam, his medical history at the time showed no signs of hypertension or stroke, and he had 'low' to 'very low' coronary artery disease risk profile with a favorable family medical history and absence of modifiable risk factors.

The report also stated he had "minimal/mild" coronary artery calcification, a fairly common sign of early artery disease in which the lining of aortic wall becomes inflamed and plaque starts to build up over time. Calcium deposits begin to form in the artery wall.

Bush's statement Tuesday did not release details on whether his artery blockage was related to his past medical history.

Also, the White House announced in August 2007 that Bush was treated the year prior for Lyme disease. A White House spokesman at the time told CNN that it is "not uncommon" for Bush to get tick bites during his bike rides.

Lyme disease can be transmitted through the bite of a tick that carries the disease. The problem had been resolved, with no re-occurrence and no other symptoms, the White House said six years ago.

His 2007 physical exam also reported bouts of mild vertigo, but it did not interfere with his work.

Remember all the vile and hateful comments in this thread wishing ill will or death on this man, as these are the same people that will call you racist for saying anything negative about the current president.

I see you. Good questions. Bush is too stupid for campaigning for anyone, he would only make a candidate look stupid just for having him show support. Though he tried to destroy health care for other Americans, he doesn't mind tax dollars being spent for his own care. As for his war crimes, he and Cheney are both afraid to leave the country because they might be arrested and tried. However, neither of them will probably ever face charges in the US.

The trolls need to get a life and perhaps get mental help. Bush's PEPFAR program has already helped save over 5-MILLION lives in Africa and he is continuing his good work in his post-Presidency. 43 has helped alleviate human suffering on all levels. Get well Mr. President!

Rudy, You keep ignoring the fact that the housing bubble, when it popped it helped take down the economy (Frank and Dodd, were DEMS). Neither one of them did anything to reel in FANNIE MAE or FREDDY MAC.

What are you talking about? Frank and Dodd were not chairing any committees, dude. Republicans had been running the House and chairing committees since 1994. That means the only policies that came out of the House were those put in place by Republicans....which means that Frank and Dodd were not running Fannie or Freddy. Do you know who does?

Where do you come up with this stuff?
    From Wiki:
Barney Frank was the leading Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, and he served as committee CHAIRMAN when his party held a House majority from 2007 to 2011

Chris Dodd served as general chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995 to 1997. He served as CHAIRMAN of the Senate Banking Committee until his retirement

As I was saying Fannie and Freddie started free falling under Frank and Dodd!

Perfect anology to explain the failure of Fannie and Freddie. Just that the Dems burned the cake and left the kitchen!

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You act like the failed and failing mortgages were signed since Jan 1, 2007, after Democrats took over the House. No. The failing mortgages were signed several YEARS prior to Fannie and Freddie blowing up. The mortgage payments ballooned after a few years. Most were signed during Bush's first term. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

President Bush is showing the signs of aging, which affects Presidents more than just about any other profession due to the stresses involved in making the hardest decisions in history.

One day Obama may show the same signs, if he ever gets around to actually working for the first day in his entire life.

Silly Liberals... I'm a proud liberal – free thinking. I wish Mr. Bush the best. I did not like his politics and how they all but destroyed our nation. Regardless, neither party or group of philosophical thinkers has the corner on hate. Have you seen the Republican PAC's Slap Hillary game? Do you think Rick Santorum and others supported by the creator of this sadistic joke about violence on women will denounce it?

Hogan's Goat, the man Laura "killed" was a car accident, a car accident which happens every day everywhere and many, many people have "killed" others. Be careful getting too gleeful about that, it may very well happen to you one day. Let's see how smug you will be then.

I always felt guilty at not liking President Bush. I'll never forget his spontaneous dancing at an African event. He was really into it. Any person with that kind of rhythm couldn't be all that bad. He was no stiff like most Republicans.

Nice words from all you libs.

What has the POS Obama done for this country? More debt, no real increase in employment, lower world standing, not to mention all the lies to the American People. He will always put his liberal friends ahead of country.

Hoping everyday he decides to leave office and realize he is not up to the task!

    Get well soon W!

Single person that has done so much damage worldwide. Almost pushed our country into a third world country, killed millions of people around the world, including our soldiers, ran the economy into a gutter, brought in religion in to politics to create divisions into our country that may never be healed, and miss managed pretty much every project he touched. don't feel sorry for him...........
