Bush undergoes heart procedure

(CNN) - Former President George W. Bush, 67, underwent a procedure Tuesday morning to have a stent placed in his heart one day after a blockage was discovered in an artery, according to a statement from his office.

In the statement released by Bush's spokesman, the procedure was "performed successfully," without complication, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

"President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday. He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him," the statement read.

The blockage was found during Bush's annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas on Monday.

"He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes. And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups," the statement continued.

The 43rd president was known for having relatively good health during his tenure at the White House. For exercise, he was an active runner and frequently rode his mountain bike.

According to his 2006 annual exam, his medical history at the time showed no signs of hypertension or stroke, and he had 'low' to 'very low' coronary artery disease risk profile with a favorable family medical history and absence of modifiable risk factors.

The report also stated he had "minimal/mild" coronary artery calcification, a fairly common sign of early artery disease in which the lining of aortic wall becomes inflamed and plaque starts to build up over time. Calcium deposits begin to form in the artery wall.

Bush's statement Tuesday did not release details on whether his artery blockage was related to his past medical history.

Also, the White House announced in August 2007 that Bush was treated the year prior for Lyme disease. A White House spokesman at the time told CNN that it is "not uncommon" for Bush to get tick bites during his bike rides.

Lyme disease can be transmitted through the bite of a tick that carries the disease. The problem had been resolved, with no re-occurrence and no other symptoms, the White House said six years ago.

His 2007 physical exam also reported bouts of mild vertigo, but it did not interfere with his work.

Why is CNN featuring a review of W's life? Is he about to die?

Perfect anology to explain the failure of Fannie and Freddie. Just that the Dems burned the cake and left the kitchen!

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You act like the failed and failing mortgages were signed since Jan 1, 2007, after Democrats took over the House. No. The failing mortgages were signed several YEARS prior to Fannie and Freddie blowing up. The mortgage payments ballooned after a few years. Most were signed during Bush's first term. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

!. Before you start beating your chest, you might want to read my response to your assertion that Frank and Dodd held NO chairmanships They did and both chairmanships concerned finance and banking, which means Freddy and Fannie!!!
    2. I NEVER said this started in 2007. I said it started under CLINTON! It was his administration that had banks lower their lending standards.
    3. Dodd and Frank were major players though and did nothing to stop it.

Political and religious systems have suppressed spiritual teachings for thousands of year. George W. is yet another example of a human being on the wrong path doing the wrong things. George W. will be remembered for war crimes against humanity and taking the US into terrible immoral wars that have harmed thousands of people. IT is no surprise his heart is blocked. If he spoke the truth about what the US government and global enslavers are up to it would save his soul and put us all back on the right path. The way the US is carrying on with fear mongering and terror is so sad for the human race and life on this planet. Now is the time that George W. will meet his soul and have another opportunity to do the right thing.

Stent procedures are nothing more than bandages. They just inflate the artery to allow more blood to flow in against the plague buildup..he's going to have another one soon...seems he's going to experience the corrupted healthcare system himself. lol

Hey RudyNYC, So let me get this straight. The relaxing of the lending practiced was signed into law by Clinton, W.'s predecessor and that sparked a boom in the subprime mortgages starting under Clinton and into W's terms. W. tried 3 times to reign in this practice and was threatened with a filbuster fr none other than Chairman Chris Dodd and Obama b/c Repubs did not have filibuster proof majority. The subprime mort. burst and its Bush's fault. right? Typical liberal.
Just so u know Obama ran against everything Bush did and came into office and did the same and much more. But I guess that's CHANGE u can believe in!

I saw someone here posted that a stent is a procedure not surgery. Are u a MD? Before u state something u might want to look up the procedure and other procedures such as pace maker. It requires hospitalization and is surgery morons! It is done to unblock an artery that can lead to death!

    What has Obama done?
The debt is NOT up, it's way down. Check the CBO. The debt is projected to fall this year by $642 billion, a continuing trend.
As for Obama – basic health care for all, gay rights, we're out of one war and nearly out of another, no major attacks though many were thwarted, declining unemployment, challenges to schools, housing prices are up, mortgage reform, banking reform, Wall Street reform, responsible reaction to natural disasters.... Open your eyes, E.
