Bush is home after heart procedure

(CNN) – Former President George W. Bush is home Wednesday a day after having a stent placed in his heart to alleviate a blockage in an artery, according to his spokesman Freddy Ford.

The procedure was "performed successfully," without complication, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas Tuesday morning, Bush's office announced in a statement shortly afterwards.

"President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday. He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him," the statement read.

Bush on track to leave hospital; Clinton reaches out

The blockage was found during Bush's annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas on Monday.

"He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes. And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups," the statement continued.

The 43rd president was known for having relatively good health during his tenure at the White House. For exercise, he was an active runner and frequently rode his mountain bike.

Former President Bill Clinton, who has had heart issues in the past, reached out to Bush upon learning that he had the stent procedure. Clinton is traveling in Africa with his daughter Chelsea, and advisers to both presidents said they were working on connecting the two men.

Clinton had two stents placed in his heart in 2010 after images revealed that a bypass graft – part of a quadruple bypass surgery that Clinton underwent in 2004 – was blocked.

I thought we went over there to get Saddam's WMDs. Hitler attacked other countries. Were Kurds being oppressed? Yes. Was it really our business to go start a civil war to put a stop a to it? No.

When the U.S. "took out" Saddam, it upset the balance of power throughout the region, particularly when it comes to Iran. Iraq was the most powerful and largest military in the Arab mideast. Saddam kept Iran's military in check, in particular their nuclear programs. Why do you think the U.S. supported him during the various Iraq/Iran wars? Saddam would not hesitate to send jets to bomb facilities suspected to be conducting nuclear research. Once he was gone, so was the check on Iran. They had a clear shot to do anything they wanted because they knew the U.S. couldn't go on bombing runs within their borders without causing a major international crisis.

    just sayin

@ just saying He sure didn't save millions in Iraq/Afghanistan.

absolutely saved millions from saddam's oppression (ever hear of the kurds?) and the oppression of the taliban. liberals have no clue about the oppression of others. they only think the usa oppresses people. please educate yourself on the real world.

Saddam played a critical role in Reagan's foreign policy after the 1979 Revolution. W eprovided intelligence and chemical weapons to him, since he was kind enough to annihilate a generation of young Iranians. By the way, Iraq, Iran and Turkey have all oppressed the Kurds, and have strongly opposed the creation of an independent Kurdistan for decades. The decision to let the Kurds be oppressed and exterminated was a calculated decision made during the Cold War, when we supported the Shah, dictators like Saddam, and military governments in Turkey. We don't talk about it because no one wants to admit hundred of thousands of people were sacrificed for cheap oil and political influence. Liberals and conservatives ( Claiborne Pell and Al D'Amato spring to mind) alike spoke out against the policies of oppressing the Kurds, which were largely ignored for the sake of expediency. To make a sweeping statement about Liberals being unable to grasp human rights violations ignores the long history of Conservative realpolitik and their willingness to ignore those concerns. Conservatives only gave a damn about human rights when it was in a Communist country, and cheerfully ignored it when it was a right-wing government ( Iraq, Chile, South Africa, etc).

My sincerest wishes and admiration for a President that was hated by the left because he wanted to keep America safe. Sad thing is that most lefties don't know that... they only know hate for America and any except their obama who truly, truly, truly HATES America.
