Republican Party launches 'Rising Stars' program

Washington (CNN) - In a fresh effort to present a more diverse tableau to the American voter, the Republican National Committee is rolling out a "Rising Stars" initiative this week in Boston, the site of the party's summer meeting.

The aim of the program, a party official said, is to leverage the party's resources and national media connections to highlight Republican candidates, elected officials, writers and activists who rarely surface in the national political conversation.

The RNC will put its institutional muscle behind the new bench of Republican voices – many of them women, minorities and young people – by booking them on television and radio as surrogates for the party.

The program begins Thursday with a panel discussion featuring RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and the first four Republicans spotlighted as rising stars: T.W. Shannon, Oklahoma's first African-American Speaker of the House; New Hampshire state Rep. Marilinda Garcia; conservative writer Scott Erickson; and Karin Agness, the founder of a group for conservative college women.

"If you've met these impressive individuals, you've met the future of our party," Priebus said in a statement.

"Rising Stars is about spotlighting some of the incredible talent in our party – from activists and authors to candidates and elected officials. Karin, Scott, Marilinda, and T.W. are already making names for themselves, and we're excited to share their stories and accomplishments with the rest of the party and the country."

In other words, "we are finding people you haven't learned to dislike yet and we're going to groom them to appeal to the groups that don't like us. We will continue with the same message and agenda, but we think you'll vote for us next time, because these rising stars are just like you". ps Please scratch Palin, Ryan, Perry, Jindhal and any other crazies from any previous lists. They weren't able to fool anyone. Thanks the RNC.

Sad to see Priebus blundering about as usual. Lol, I mean some small state level politician, a writier, and an activist are suppose to be the Rising Stars of the GOP? Lol, the sad thing is that the GOP does actually have many people rising to star status (I define star status as having recognition by the commonfolk on the national stage, whether or not said "Stars" are good or bad is up to the voter to decide.). Let's see some debates with Rand Paul, Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, and Marco Rubio. You know, the only people that are going to actually have star power going into the 2014 and 2016 election.

The GOP is so worried about appealing to women and minorities that they have to get tokens to talk with and this just makes it ever more apparant that the GOP has a defecit of women and minority candidates on the national stage. I think most people really don't care about Dem or GOP racial/sexist pandering. Look at all the variety of people Ron Paul got to support him, many of which are well outside the traditional GOP demographic. The American people aren't dumb, they know when you're pandering. The American people are starved for great ideas, big thinkers, and liberty, not for being told how one party is more racist than the other party.

Never heard of any of them.

Guess the GOP isn't making all that much effort to get them in the public eye.

"Rising Stars is about spotlighting some of the incredible talent in our party – from activists and authors to candidates and elected officials...."

Rising Stars is about putting a bandaid on the self-inflicted gunshot wound of having alienated minority voters with our rhetoric and our policies for some 7 decades. We intend to pose the question: "We tricked them, so why not you?"

Most GOP "Rising Stars" end up being burnt toast. Read the writing on the wall. The GOP is in a Death Spiral.

Well, if it is introducing the same quality of "rising stars" that launched such "meteorites" as Pompador Perry, 999 Cain, and Manic Michelle, then Sheldon is in for a big "bazinga" as this new GOP show will be a comedic smash hit!

there is a problem when you have to say things like, "see, we have minority friends" or "see, we have binders full of women" or "see, we can do the Google".

even though the really loud and ridiculous tend to get the most attention, the majority of Americans aren't fooled by such rubbish.
