Biden’s son evaluated at Houston hospital

Updated at 9:53 a.m. ET on 8/20

(CNN) - Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware and the son of Vice President Joe Biden, was evaluated on Monday at a Houston hospital after an "episode of disorientation and weakness," the vice president's office said.

Biden traveled with his son to Texas for the evaluation, his office added. According to a source, Beau Biden is also with others from his family, including second lady Jill Biden.

He is undergoing testing at MD Anderson, a world renowned cancer treatment hospital, the source told CNN, cautioning that Biden was only undergoing an evaluation.

Beau Biden tweeted Tuesday morning, thanking supporters for their well-wishes.

The incident occurred last Wednesday while Beau Biden was on vacation. He began to feel "weak and disoriented following a long drive to Indiana," the Delaware Department of Justice wrote in a statement.

Initially admitted to Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago, Biden traveled the next morning to the Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to speak with his doctor.

The statement said Biden was discharged and spent the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

No other information about Biden's condition was released.

In 2010, the younger Biden suffered what doctors said was a mild stroke. His speech and motor skills were not affected.

Biden, 44, was elected as Delaware's attorney general in 2006. He served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard. Biden acted as a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2002.

He and his wife, Hallie, have two children.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

We have great medical facilities and doctors in Texas. Vice President Biden should reconsider his support of Obamacare where we will all get low quality healthcare.

Well, at least this is one political family where the kids actually served in a combat zone. Most of the DC elite make sure there kids never come close, but are willing to send yours in harms way.

As a conservative, I oppose most everything the Bidens do politically. As a human being and a fellow parent I have nothing but respect for Joe Biden who like me, was a single parent and always put his children first. Doing a long commute every day for years to make sure he always had time to be a dad first is to be commended. As for the son, I wish you a full, complete and speedy recovery.
