Ted Cruz releases birth certificate

(CNN) - As Ted Cruz's profile has skyrocketed in the last year–thanks to his election to the U.S. Senate and an attention-grabbing itinerary to early presidential voting states–the Texas Republican's eligibility for president has come under question.

Born in Canada to a U.S. mother and a Cuban father, most legal experts have said Cruz qualifies as a "natural-born citizen," a requirement for the White House job, as stated in the Constitution.

And Cruz seems to agree. He told ABC News in July that he's not "going to engage in a legal debate."

"The facts are clear," he continued. "I can tell you where I was born and who my parents were. And then as a legal matter, others can worry about that. I'm not going to engage."

But he will release his birth certificate. In fact, he already has.

The Dallas Morning News ran a story late Sunday analyzing Cruz's documents, which he released to the newspaper on Friday.

Legal experts told the paper that Cruz is not only eligible for president in the United States, he's also technically a Canadian citizen and can even run for Parliament. Unless he renounces his citizenship there, he could also obtain a Canadian passport, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The senator's office, however, said Cruz has never embraced his legal rights in Canada, a country that he left when he was four.

"Senator Cruz became a U.S. citizen at birth, and he never had to go through a naturalization process after birth to become a U.S. citizen," spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told the newspaper. "To our knowledge, he never had Canadian citizenship, so there is nothing to renounce."

The recent debate has invoked the controversial "birther" movement that questioned President Barack Obama's eligibility for president. He put the issue to rest in 2011 when he released his long-form birth certificate proving he was born in Hawaii–though a small amount of conspiracists still maintain doubt about the president's place of birth.

Cruz will attend a GOP fundraiser in New Hampshire on Friday. Earlier this summer, he traveled to Iowa twice and stopped in South Carolina in May. All three states typically hold the first three contests in the presidential primary process.

So, according to the "Tea Party" Canada is o.k. but Hawaii is not? Leave it to the mindless trolls to change the Constitution of the United States when and only when it is convenient to do so.

To those of you that wonder where the Obama birthers are, take a look around, they're still here, and still questioning Obama's legitimacy. The only difference is, while they're still wrong, we have evidence that proves they are just racists after all, since they're so willing to accept a Canadian Cuban white guy for a President. By the way birthers, it didn't take Obama "5 years" to release his birth certificate, his birth certificate was available for all to see before he ran for President. He did finally find and release his long-form certificate, and that was still during his first term. So, your lies just make you look even more ridiculous and pathetic.

I think Mr. Cruz is going to have a tougher time overcoming his policies instead of his birth place....

The thing that has always amazed me the most is that the ultra conservatives who like to constantly (mis)quote the constitution, seem to have never read it. Any person, regardless of where they are born, as long as one parent is a citizen, is also a natural born citizen. They don't need to apply for citizenship. They automatically have it, Whether it's Obama or Cruz. I just wish the Republicans would own up to the fact that they cheat, lie and weazel to get what they want.

Faster than a speeding bullet and more powerful that a locomotive - fights a never-ending battle for TRUTH! JUSTICE ... The Donald? The Trump? Hello? We NEED you .. I wish I could whistle ...

if either of your parents is a US citizen at the time of your birth then you are a natural born us citizen regardless of where you were born. this birther thing is getting off hand.
Nope, no you're not. Not according to traditionally accepted definitons of "natural born" and a few cases brought before the Supreme Court. Here's a quote on which to hang your hat.

"The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country of parents who are citizens", was quoted in 1857 by Supreme Court justice Peter Vivian Daniel in a concurring opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford.

Would someone please explain to me why Cruz gets a free pass? Even if the Obama doubters were right, and he was born in Kenya, wouldn't that be the same as Cruz being born in Canada? Both have/had US mothers and foreign fathers, so why does Obama's birthplace seem to matter when Cruz's doesn't?

The TeaParty can't have it both ways, even though they will try. If President Obama isn't legal NEITHER IS CRUZ. But not to worry, Cruz is only a flash in the pan.

I'm aregistered Independant, and I'm not voting for anybody who brings this crap up again.

    Because Cruz isn't black.

Obama would still have qualified for President even if he was borne in Kenya if you apply the Cruz rule to him. The right continues to wallow in utter racism and intellectual dishonesty. No wonder voters no longer take them seriously.

Ted Cruz is secretly working for Cuba and Fidel Castro. It is all a communist plot to overthrow US government. This is why he likes going in circles...it is a communist revolution.
