Virginia governor: From rising star to liability

Washington (CNN) - Prosecutors hope to determine by Labor Day whether Virginia's first family broke any laws regarding a gift-giving scandal that has engulfed Gov. Bob McDonnell and tarnished the once-sterling reputation of the Republican politician, a source with knowledge of the matter told CNN.

Lawyers for McDonnell and his wife met with prosecutors in the city of Alexandria on Monday as the Justice Department sought clarity over previously undisclosed gifts given to the governor and his family by the chief executive of a troubled dietary supplement company.

I laughed at MoJo this morning as he tried to build a false narrative about McDonnell is facing federal charges because the Obama administration is after him. He slyly tried to insinuate that the administration wants get Bad Bob because he was in the driver's seat for the 2016 race. But, he couldn't do it without sounding like a right wing nut job, and he knew it.

He kept asking about why was he facing federal charges, and not state charges, because under Virginia law what McDonnell did could probably be deemed legal. The rest of the pundits at the table did answer, and gave MoJo all the rope that he was willing to take.

Towards the end of the segment, someone finally came up with the correct rationale for it. Money. Lots of money. Money is the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal government. When crimes that involve money exceed certain amounts, the matter ceases being a local or state matter and it becomes federal charges such as: extortion; bribery; racketeering, etc.

When even the mindless GOP cheerleader sockpuppet Jennifer Rubin is saying you should resign, then you know you've pooped the bed. Time for some private life, McDoodoo.
