Washington (CNN) - With a flurry of diplomatic signals and activity, U.S. officials sought Tuesday to lay the groundwork for a possible military attack on Syria in response to last week's suspected chemical weapons attack that Washington blames on President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Secretary of State John Kerry both consulted allies and indicated potential imminent action by a coalition likely to include key NATO partners and regional powers.

Oh goodie. We're "ready to go" in Syria. Yeah? Well who's "we"? According to polling, 91% are opposed to this action.
Never mind the will of the Great Unwashed, though. You just go ahead and enjoy your Springtime for America ... in Syriahhh ...
Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
The Military Industrial Complex. Can you imagine the outcry from the left if we didn't have a democrat as president?
there using missiles that are all ready payed for by a navy that gets payed any how .
How are we going to pay for this military action?
Yeah, well. Welcome to the new norm: two wars being fought simultaneously by our American youth.
GOPerville ... well all of us actually ... might want to start priming our young for the draft.
Sooner rather than later.
I stand behind our President, but quite frankly I don't think we have any business in there.
I do not mean to sound callous or to over simplify.
Some in our government have been looking for ANY excuse to engage us in yet another foreign conflict. Their motives are murky at best...
I don't think we should go in there guns blazing.
IMHO.
tom l "Can you imagine the outcry from the left"
Actually the left has some of us that are not real happy about Obama's military adventurism and drone bombs and spying.
Ugh... Syria has plenty of weapons that can reach deep inside Israel, and you just know that's the first thing he's going to do if he's attacked. If they tip one of those with a chem weapon, you can just about be sure that Damascus will be a parking lot in retaliation. God only knows how it plays out from there. War always sucks, but this situation is especially frightening.
"Can you imagine the outcry from the left if we didn't have a democrat as president?"
I prefer to wait until I know what they intend to do to get outraged or throw a fit. I know, I know...it's difficult for you conservatives, ever so desperate as you are to try to find some sort of "gotcha" moment of hypocrisy you can point out...and as ever-ready as you are to throw a massive tantrum even before knowing what you're throwing a tantrum above...but sorry, there's nothing to react to yet. Another "gotcha" fail. Learn to analogy.
The Finger is on the Dooms day button and it is about to be pushed.S.Y.O.T.O.S.
El Quida is fighting Hezbollah/Iran in Syria. Hmmmmm.
Whatever Obama does, you can be assured it will be a feckless, meaningless action. He shot his mouth off and now has painted himself in to a corner. He did exactly what he accused George Bush of doing. He'll order a few cruise missiles to hit a few air fields or government buildings and say see, I told you I would do something. Syria and Iran will roll on the floor laughing at Obama and the USA, just like the rest of the world.
The chemical weapons are the elephant in the room here. Frankly, I wouldn't mind sitting this one out, but the chemical threat is serious. Frankly, I would've enjoyed seeing Syria tear itself apart. Taking out the weapons is the least of what we'd have to be concerned with. We have to worry about Russia and Iran, retaliation against Israel, chemical weapons used against our personnel, and fighting ALL the terrorists in the region.
so where is obama the great leader in assembling a large coalition of forces to go in and deal with the problem in syria? where is his request to the united nations to act? obama has done nothing but blather and make idle threats for two years. now he is going to waste a few hundred million dollars on cruise missles that will have absolutely no affect on syria and the outcome of the struggle there. it will be just lik ebill clinton lobbing those cruise missles at al queada. totally useless.
the world has figured out long ago obama is a toothless paper tiger.
What did he do the same as bush, these weapons were real, not just a fabricated report by a hand picked Intel agency george sent kids to die in the name of profits how us this even remotely similar
"Frankly, I would've enjoyed seeing Syria tear itself apart."

Yeah... watching all those Syrian children dying or at best becoming orphans would have been a laugh a minute, eh Dutch?
You know, just saying. I'm going suggest that you tone down your hate. There really is serious "stuff" going on in the world outside your little bubble. Just in case you are unaware of that fact, you understand? Nothing personal.
