Washington (CNN) - More than 100 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, mostly Republicans and some Democrats, sent President Barack Obama a letter demanding he consult with Congress before ordering any action.
Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, outright opposes any intervention.
No new War. I do not care nor give darn hoot at Syria. Lat Saudi and China deal this time. USA distance wise too far...
"We aren't the world's policeman, congressman says"
Grayson's statement may be rather flamboyant , but he is essentially correct. The World needs to respond- not just America.
Why were these isolationist Republicans silent during the Bush administration?
Exactly. it is time to STOP being the world's policeman. Period.
Congress is overstepping, tradionally, under presidents of both parties such actions are taken by the President – only war requires congressional approval.
So many posts I read here are against intervention. But I know, here is a republican – or I guess they're called rethugs, coming out against intervention, I guess that means all the left leaning posters will have to say he is wrong and that we should definitely intervene. As that shaft song goes,..."if you can't do the time, don't do the crime,...don't do it!!".
no not the world police men ,unless some thing bigger and better comes along

Demanding? Or what impeachment? Is this the way THEY addressed previous presidents?
I was personally "turned off" when I read the president doesn't think race has anything to do with opposition to anything and everything he does. Really? Do you truly believe they would be demanding a president of non-color to do something? This is downright disrespectful and ignorant but I have come to expect nothing less.
Wow! Someone finally wake up. Trouble is you (our illustrious elected officials), should have considered this long ago. Say sometime between 2002, and 2005. Now the entire country is bogged down, divided, and basically at each others throat because our elected elite failed to do the right thing.
0/0 per cent intervention. Its time to rebuild the u.s. Of a. Do some infrastructure, road, bridge, and congressional work here and quit trying to rule the world. America is only as strong as the citizens of the United States. I wouldnt go to war again for this country. We veterans ard being mistreated in america.
my instinctual insight is no one has the right to take a life this is related in the sense AUG 21, DAMASCUS! Well when it comes to taking matters in your own hands as if no one eles opinion matters then i would say that individual is working on their own behalf, QUESTION? Who allowed this?
and in reguards to SYRIA, no one likes war but sometimes it can't be helped.
while the united states is not the world's police force the united nations is. funding, training and supplying weapons to the rebels who ally with alqueda should not be considered; serious humanitarian intervention should have long ago been implemented.
Obama to give a speech outlining why we need to get involved, GOODLUCK!! because we don't need too .ever heard " not our problem."? Really, really is not our problem, really isn't. How hard us that to understand.these blogs, and surveys all say the same thing, stay out of it
theGuns Over People Partial Government Shutdown tea potty chicken hawks were screaming for action a week ago. Now they want to be consulted before anything is done. They are clueless about every issue facing American.
We are not the world police. If any other democratic country wants to take up the mantle, let them.
I just did some research on Alan Grayson. In my opinion, I don't know how anyone could disagree with the man, but then there are those who can't comprehend simple logic.
Really?? We aren't?? Too bad you guys didn't feel this way before we went into Iraq looking for WMD's that didn't even exist.
I never EVER thought I'd find myself agreeing with ANYTHING Grayson says... however, he is correct on this one. There is nothing good that could possibly come out of this. The Assad regime has too many parties whose best interest is to keep him afloat, and they will do just that. IMO.
What a mess.
