Pelosi's office clarifies her position on speakership

(CNN) - Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi's office clarified on Friday her apparent disinterest in returning to her old job as House speaker.

Her spokesman suggested she would be open to resuming the speakership if elected to the position, and said they asked for a correction to the edited version of the interview published in The National Journal on Thursday.

"Do you want to be speaker again?" the edited question read. "No, that's not my thing. I did that," she replied.

Drew Hammill, her communications director, said the full question was "Do you wish for the chance for the speaker position again?"

He said Pelosi "simply meant she doesn't 'wish" to be Speaker as she has already served as Speaker for four years" and further that she has no plans to step down from her seat.

"The rest is up to her colleagues, as the leader has long stated publicly," the statement continued.

It was a job she held from 2007 to 2011 after several years as minority leader. When Republicans regained control of the House, she returned to her role as minority leader, the position she holds now.

She was first elected in 1987 and her name has become a buzzword used by both sides of the aisle. She has fundraised and campaigned on behalf of Democratic candidates, while at the same time Republicans use her as an icon of liberalism.

For a Democrat to take the top job, they would have to pick up 17 seats for the majority. Republicans currently hold a 233-200 advantage in the lower chamber with two vacancies.

Pelosi hasn't been shy of criticizing the House under Republican leadership and repeated that in the interview.

"It's not productive," she said. "It's a waste of the taxpayers' dollar. It's a waste of our time."

"you have to pass the bill to see what is in it".... Nancy Pelosi on Obamacare.

Obamacare is now turning out to be the disaster many said it would be. Half the stuff can't be implemented because it has been deemed impractical or impossible. Even Obamacare supporters like the unions are now against it. Congress is exempting themselves from it while the IRS, which supposed to enforce it, wants out of it. Meanwhile Obama disregards the laws requirements on implementation to suit Democrat political needs while the American people will be forced to pay and not get a waiver.

House Speaker Pelosi??? She should be drummed OUT of Congress!!!

so says the clueless left as obama prepares to attack syria unilaterally without congressional or un approval. and in the process will plunge the entire middle east, including iran, into open warfare involving every country. can you say wwiii? ...
Now that you mention it, that has been the result of the US invading Iraq. One by one, almost the entire middle east is descending into civil war. Having congressional approval when you launch an invasion of country that hasn't attacked you only makes the matter even worse.

For the record, I'm all for the Republicans having their "invade Syria" vote. I'll bet $10,000 they add a repeal the ACA to it.
