(CNN) - Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's controversial opinion piece in the New York Times, Sen. John McCain jokingly told CNN's Jake Tapper he'd like to write a commentary for Pravda, the historic Russian newspaper connected to the Communist Party.
Well, now it looks like McCain may get his wish.
According to Foreign Policy's blog The Cable, the editors of Pravda have tentatively agreed to publish an op-ed by the Arizona Republican. The opinion piece will most likely reflect McCain's strong negative views toward Putin.
"We have to remember who Putin is. He's a KGB colonel apparatchik, who has never abandoned the Russian ambitions for an empire, and influence in the world," McCain said Thursday on Tapper's show, "The Lead."
Dmitry Sudakov, the English editor of Pravda, told The Cable that if McCain wants to write an op-ed, he is "welcome."
"Mr. McCain has been an active anti-Russian politician for many years already," Sudakov continued. "We have been critical of his stance on Russia and international politics in our materials, but we would be only pleased to publish a story penned by such a prominent politician as John McCain."
A spokesman for McCain told The Cable that McCain "would be glad to write something for Pravda, so we'll be reaching out to Dmitry with a submission."
I am sure this dufus will help world peace. He needs to hang it up and shut up.
Ha-ha-ha
In Russia newspaper "Pravda" now is marginal small edition for tiny group of old communists. Nobody in Russia reads this newspaper already 20 years. McCain is dinosaurus, he doesnt know anything about modern Russia.
GET EM MCCAIN!! ima bonafide democrat, but my two favorite republicans are Colin Powell and John McCain!! Go Get him, rip him a new one!
Oh please no. John, can you just shut up please? Thanks.
Seriously, I voted for this guy. Does he really think that this would be taken as anything other than a joke?
I shudder to think what this senile old fool might write. Rather than a possible attack on Syria, perhaps he wants us to go to war with Russia. I hope he comes to his senses and decides not to write anything.
This loser should have a limited term as a senator just as the President's term is limited to 8 years.
On the bright side this may well remind many of us why we didn't vote for McCain in 2008.
Maybe Sarah Palin can contribute something to this as well.
Stop wasting time and energy on what a loser says and focus that rage on taking care of AMERICA!
This is what is wrong with Washington and most politicians.
This will only reflect badly upon America. These guys in office are all circus side show freaks. I've seen carnies with more wit about them.
Go Get Em John!
So, let me get this straight. McCain is calling Putin aparatchik KGB, yet he is publishing his article in a communist newspaper Pravda which since the beginning of its creation has been serving corrupt communist party of Soviet Union?
I can't wait to her what John McCain has to say to Pravda. He will make Putin sound like a genius.
I love John McCain, hes my hero.
What these demigods should do is just stop the rhetoric and name calling and let the negotiators try and reach some sort of agreement on Syria. There's never going to be 100% agreement on any resolution simply because there are too many players in the game, but dropping bombs till hell freezes over is not the answer.
Because having an angry warmongering war profiteer with dementia speak for all Americans is a wonderful idea.......
Old Mr. War Cranky, owner of 100 homes bought with gov't paychecks, is going to lecture Russia. LOL.
McCain won't write the commentary himself. He'll utilize a host of DC-insider staffers to carefully craft some lines that might exude toughness, but in reality should be fairly straightforward diplomatic jargon.
Lets just hope McCain can put down his poker game on his iPhone long enough to write such an op-ed.....
If one was keeping score how many innocent citizens has our government killed and tortured compared to Russia in the last 50 years. Remember deformity from agent orange and depleted uranium counts as sustained torture and punishment.
This is fantastic. He thought his last chance at grandstanding was in 2008, when he veered off the campaign trail to save the economy, stopping at every podium along the way. McCain exemplifies much of what Putin had to say about American politicians. Putin may be a pathetic hypocrite, but his characterization of American politicians and American arrogance is spot on.
Perhaps someone should tell John McCain he didn't win the Presidential election in '08 ...
McCain missed his chance to bomb men, women, and children in Viet Nam when he got shot down. Too bad...
He hasn't gotten rid of that urge to bomb others. What a hypocrite. He's still expecting a victory parade. As for Obama, he's forgotten about the people of the USA. We need help in CO, NJ, CA,
