(CNN) - Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's controversial opinion piece in the New York Times, Sen. John McCain jokingly told CNN's Jake Tapper he'd like to write a commentary for Pravda, the historic Russian newspaper connected to the Communist Party.
Well, now it looks like McCain may get his wish.
According to Foreign Policy's blog The Cable, the editors of Pravda have tentatively agreed to publish an op-ed by the Arizona Republican. The opinion piece will most likely reflect McCain's strong negative views toward Putin.
"We have to remember who Putin is. He's a KGB colonel apparatchik, who has never abandoned the Russian ambitions for an empire, and influence in the world," McCain said Thursday on Tapper's show, "The Lead."
Dmitry Sudakov, the English editor of Pravda, told The Cable that if McCain wants to write an op-ed, he is "welcome."
"Mr. McCain has been an active anti-Russian politician for many years already," Sudakov continued. "We have been critical of his stance on Russia and international politics in our materials, but we would be only pleased to publish a story penned by such a prominent politician as John McCain."
A spokesman for McCain told The Cable that McCain "would be glad to write something for Pravda, so we'll be reaching out to Dmitry with a submission."
Every time McCain opens his mouth he finds room for both feet. Seriously the old fool is as damaging to the country in words and deeds as old Newt Gingrich. Putin wants to be a peacemaker and what's wrong with that? McCain should shut up or be shut up.
John McCain deserves to be in jail, to rot. There he can think about how compromised he and Kerry and OTHERS have tried to lead us into ww3 with treasonous behaviors thinking only of money, oil and the destruction of the middle east for the New World Order.
John McCain is an old blowhard however even he is doing more than Obama.
I had tremendous respect for the New York Times in general and I believe you were duped into accepting this article from an organization that did not respect the values and principles of the people that made the New York Times a respected newspaper some of whom historically placed itself in the forefront to make it leading newspaper of the free world. Pravda does not represent truth, remember the cold war? Putin is another Stalin!
McCain should work on helping our country instead of getting his feeleings hurt
Hopefully this wont interfere with McCain's online poker time..... Hopefully the citizens of Arizona will wise up and replace this aging man with a 1964 foreign policy mentality and put someone in the seat that is forward thinking (regardless of party) so as not to beat his chest when a arab dictator kills other arabs
This guy is dangerous!
McCain is not president, and egos just keep growing.
McCain should retire and give the younger generation a chance.
I don`t agree with John a lot,but this time I say give em Hell !
Who cares what McCain thinks? He's been an irrelevant and inconsequential "leader" for years. Shut up loser!
Who has the unplayed trump card?
Curious.
Hey McCain: the American people decided not to elect you President (more than once, I might add). We certainly don't want you speaking on our behalf to another country's people.
Mr McCain ...Hope your writing skills are better than, as we came to find out, your poker skills 😉
Dear John McCain: Nobody reads Pravda any more. It's the Communist newspaper. Putin isn't a Communist. He's about as capitalist as they come, given his vast personal fortune and his fleet of luxury cars. I doubt very much that he reads Pravda.. Try getting your article in Rossiskaya Gazeta instead.
I hope warmonger McCain does NOT write something purporting to represent America. I'm embarrassed to be from the same country as McCain!
Senator McCain must be very frustrated that our country isn't going to war against Syria. War monger.
Backoff mcCain ,putin is physically stronger you jabs wont dent him
This man needs to get himself a good rocking chair and retire to his porch. He is a pompous self-righteous azz. His sole goal in life is to escalate everything to new political heights. I think he's lost his mind. I know, how do I really feel?
Putin is the President of Russia. Does McCain think he is the President of the United States? As far as I remember, he lost to Obama. There are 98 more senators in DC
Please, please. please, tell John McCain to keep his mouth shut. He is not helping relations between countries. He flip flops on his quotes, he invites the idea of war and he is not representative of our countries values. We did not vote for him, so he should not get a say in this sensitive subject! Certainly not someone who should be confronting the leader of Russia.
Ohh!, so the US can be an empire but the Russian cant? so the whole world have to bow to the US desires? well guess what the Russians have many czar bombs
This man is a joke! I find more interesting reading abaout the cute dog who alerted the parents about the ugly nanny.
In his article, Putin remains respectful toward President Obama. I hope that, whatever he plans to write, Mr. McCain will not sink to the level of launching personal attacks on Putin, and say things like he said in the CNN report: "We have to remember who Putin is. He's a KGB colonel..."
(Moderator: please disregard my previous post. I misspelt Mr. McCain's name.)
McCain has never gotten over that he did not get elected but always thinks to chime in whenever he perceives rightly maybe that Putin is moving up successive rungs of the World Leadership ladder as Obama is spiraling downward. So, yeah, McCain will for sure make this all better, maybe try making some headway with the citizens of Arizona who think he is a just a poser?
Just what the world wanted-the response of a pro syria rebel and alqaeda supporter.
