(CNN) - Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's controversial opinion piece in the New York Times, Sen. John McCain jokingly told CNN's Jake Tapper he'd like to write a commentary for Pravda, the historic Russian newspaper connected to the Communist Party.
Well, now it looks like McCain may get his wish.
According to Foreign Policy's blog The Cable, the editors of Pravda have tentatively agreed to publish an op-ed by the Arizona Republican. The opinion piece will most likely reflect McCain's strong negative views toward Putin.
"We have to remember who Putin is. He's a KGB colonel apparatchik, who has never abandoned the Russian ambitions for an empire, and influence in the world," McCain said Thursday on Tapper's show, "The Lead."
Dmitry Sudakov, the English editor of Pravda, told The Cable that if McCain wants to write an op-ed, he is "welcome."
"Mr. McCain has been an active anti-Russian politician for many years already," Sudakov continued. "We have been critical of his stance on Russia and international politics in our materials, but we would be only pleased to publish a story penned by such a prominent politician as John McCain."
A spokesman for McCain told The Cable that McCain "would be glad to write something for Pravda, so we'll be reaching out to Dmitry with a submission."
Oh right, thats the guy who was busy playing online Poker whilst his fellow senators where debating attacking Syria. You going to strike back with a virtual reality Royal Flush Mr McCain?
You go John McCain. Tell it like it is. Someone needs to say it.
This whole mess becomes more surreal every day.
Well this is interesting since the American voters twice put a second rate community organizer in the white house which booted the Russians to the top on world leadership. Little Napoleon just wanted to bomb or boom Syria for doing what Muslims do best and that is kill people. Bring it on McCain and do explain why Congress is such an impatient collection of incompetents!
McCain like Putin better have someone else write it.
John! Now dont go and start something! We mean it.
Well, it looks like McCain still lives in his old cold war mentality. Someone needs to tell him that Pravda is no longer popular newspaper in Russia. McCain still thinks Russians still are staying in long lines for toilet paper and that there are bears walk on the strees in Moscow. John it might be too late for you to get out of the small box in which you spent the last 20 years or so. I am glad your propoganda would be publich in Russian newspaper but be prepared that it will be rejected.
I really think Grandpa McGrumpy should go away at this time and stop embarrassing the USA.
This can only end well.....
Dear Mr Palin-offering Terrorist Photo-op Genius: DON"T HELP. We have enough buffoons involved.
John, not too many people in America care what you say or think so do you think more people in Russia would care about your opinion? I am happy for you that out of many newspapers like Komersant, you went with the paper that represents so little today in Russia. John, do some research or ask your aids to tell that there are more popular newspapers than Pravda in Russia.
McCain sounds like a child. This guy is supposed to be a leader in the US. This is the best we have? Unbelievable. No wonder the rest of the world thinks we're a joke.
Why is McCain allowing himself to be sucked into Putin's game. By responding to his comments you indirectly give them legitimacy they don't deserve.
He should not do it since he lacks intelligence to do it properly. He will just embarrass us.
Oh please! McCain is another nutcase who should just keep his mouth quiet. Go fade into the sunset already..
While he's at it he can explain how the nose of your aircraft gets torn-off by rear-chasing SAM missile? Eh, John?
Impeach Putin!
lol.
No No No
Senator John McCain has serve the USA very well as a military serviceman, however as a politician he has been found wanting. One has to know when to take the high road, especially in light of the current situation in Syria. President Putin can write anything he so desire even if it is a lie but to get all up in arms over and ascribing adjective as he being a thug according to Newt Gingrich and a KGB operative who has not lost his ambition of an empire according to the Senator is utterly ridiculous. Vice President Joe Biden made a comment that the Russians acted on and as such made President Putin and his team become positively engage than just vetoing US proposal at the UN so why not just let the Russians have there day in the sun while Secretary of State John Kerry work wi th them to bring the Syrian mess to an amicable conclusion. As far as I can see, nothing short of President Obam a calling for and carrying out a strike on Syria will not make Senator John McCain happy. A hawk will always be a hawk.
Although I am a liberal but I think senator McCain seems like a honest person who really cares.
McCain is making fool of himself. He is not aware that Pravda is irrelevant in modern Russia.
Nobody will be reading his nonsense.
OH Great! Please don't help us we're doing fine. Just let it play out! WE DO NOT WANT TO GO TO WAR! Just leave it alone!
Everyone knows you're a tough guy. You don't have to prove anything to the world.
We the people of the world are getting sick of you warmongers!
Who cares what Putin says, hes just like you, except he likes to have pictures taken of himself taming the wild half naked. A real mans man. In the same manner you are naked to the rest of us!
Who are you to speak for us? If anything it's the president's place, except that he has the common sense to keep his mouth shut for a change!
Haven't you read the polls? This intervention isn't something we want and it's by the largest bipartisan majority that I have ever seen.
We DO NOT WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS WAR!!!
He is one of the dumbest people in America. He loses to Obama and now he wants to fight for Obama because he got worked by Putin. John, you are a Republican. Let Obama keep talking and burying himself. You are as bad as Crispy Kreme Christy.
Soooo. . . in order to speak directly to the American People, Mccain needs an NYT op-ed? We hear this guy spouting every day.
John, I hope you can announce in Pravda that you will retire soon. You will see how many American are waiting for retirement.
