Op-ed for Op-ed: McCain to strike back in 'Pravda'

(CNN) - Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's controversial opinion piece in the New York Times, Sen. John McCain jokingly told CNN's Jake Tapper he'd like to write a commentary for Pravda, the historic Russian newspaper connected to the Communist Party.

Well, now it looks like McCain may get his wish.

According to Foreign Policy's blog The Cable, the editors of Pravda have tentatively agreed to publish an op-ed by the Arizona Republican. The opinion piece will most likely reflect McCain's strong negative views toward Putin.

"We have to remember who Putin is. He's a KGB colonel apparatchik, who has never abandoned the Russian ambitions for an empire, and influence in the world," McCain said Thursday on Tapper's show, "The Lead."

Dmitry Sudakov, the English editor of Pravda, told The Cable that if McCain wants to write an op-ed, he is "welcome."

"Mr. McCain has been an active anti-Russian politician for many years already," Sudakov continued. "We have been critical of his stance on Russia and international politics in our materials, but we would be only pleased to publish a story penned by such a prominent politician as John McCain."

A spokesman for McCain told The Cable that McCain "would be glad to write something for Pravda, so we'll be reaching out to Dmitry with a submission."

Is it not combination of American and Russians that took Hitler? Why should we not negotiate with Russia on disarming Syria chemical weapons? If Russians are supplying arms to Syria, we are doing the same. No matter what people die on both sides. Force Russians to not sell arms instead.

How on earth is he going to write an op ed piece? that would require he at least advance ideas and sell them on paper –as opposed to just saying he doesn't like Russia or something. Putin at least had one or two ideas in his–such as his taking issue with American "exceptionalism" which is a code word for America can do what it wants whereas other countries cannot. Mccain's press release seems to prove the point he is incapable of advancing ideas to convince those who do not already agree with him –as opposed to those who already see eye to eye with him –in that his press release states "Russia has always tried to increase its influence, etc etc"–as if that is something bad and no need to explain why that is bad ,,we are supposed to take that as an article of faith.

Maybe the Senator–as part of his show–could get Sarah Palin to flash her often accentuated (gun) "rack" at Putin. After all she and Putin don't live very far from one another, just go across the Bering Strait, hang left, head west about a million miles and.....

senator mcain, thanks for standing up for whats right, and if you dont mind, please deliver a personal message to mr putin on my behalf: tell him to kindly screw himself, and never preach his crap to me. you can forward my email to him if he wishes to respond. i dont think he will, because he is not accustomed to people who have rights to speak their mind. he is a punk, he looks like one, and possibly smells like one as well.

Please don't help, we don't need any more Palins or photos of you with terrorists. We hear you spouting every single day, why on earth do you need an op-ed?

This could be very good. The two country's should pull closer together and not apart. We'll see how we can both be open-minded understanding each other.

I suggest Senator McCain asks Vladimir Putin the following THREE questions:

    1. If you are such a "great ally" of your beloved Syria, HOW COME that not only do you maintain diplomatic relations with its archenemy – the State of Israel – but also have introduced a visa waiver program with this country? For comparison: your beloved USSR severed diplomatic relations with Israel in 1967, and never re-established them; any Soviet Citizen who wanted to go to Israel would automatically be expatriated, and no Israeli citizens were allowed to enter the USSR until 1991. Now, the Israelis, "the enemies", can come to Russia any time they want, whereas the Syrians, "the friends", have to beg for a Russian visa (which is not easy to obtain, especially for applicants from the Middle East).

    2. If you were such a "great ally" of Saddam Hussein, HOW COME you did not do a thing when we, the Americans, invaded to topple him? In fact, would you DARE to EVEN CONSIDER invading or at least Israel, the friend of the USA, just like the USA are invading Muslim countries hostile to Israel???

    3. If the USA, in your own words, represent "the greatest geopolitical enemy of Russia", WHY do you keep Russian Stabilization Fund in the Wall Street, WHY does your daughter live in the Netherlands (the most prominent NATO member with US atomic weapons deployed on its territory), and... WHY did you get so upset about Magnitsky List that bans certain Russian Government Officials (not even including you, which is A PITY!) from entering the USA? In fact, how can you explain your desire to travel to a "hostile" country???

However odious your beloved USSR may have been, the policy of the Soviet leadership was at least CONSISTENT. They did not keep their money in US banks, they did not send their children to Columbia University (preferring Moscow State University instead), and they did not come to Miami Beach for vacation (preferring the Black Sea instead). The policy of Russia is anything BUT consistent. While denouncing Western Democracies in general and the USA in particular as "enemies", the Russian Government officials keep their money and hold property on the US soil! That's why the Magnitsky List ought to be expanded!!!

Based on all the above, why should we, the Americans, take ANYTHING you say SERIOUSLY? To me, we might as well listen to Kim Jong Un, who is at least not a hypocrite, and means exactly what he says..

So Putin wrote an opinion to support their plan and made a passing comment that could be loosely interpreted as an insult ... and McCain's response opinion would be what exactly? That the diplomatic solution is wrong and USA is super awesome because Jesus? I get the impression that McCain is getting international politics tips from on-line forum trolls.

Good. Then the rest of the world will see that McCain is a troubled man with too short a fuse to do any good regarding global diplomacy. I'm sure he will write the way he speaks- in a hot headed obnoxious manner representative of his deep seeded self loathing. But Russia is not as closed off to the world as people may think and I have yet to be censored by them in any writings I have ever posted on their news sites, so I am sure they will extend the same courtesies to hot headed McCain if for no other reason than to pity Americans for having to recognize him as a statesman.
