House bill would take 3.8 million off food stamps

Washington (CNNMoney) - House Republicans on Thursday will take up a controversial bill cutting 3.8 million people from food stamp rolls next year by making it tougher for some families to qualify.

The bill would cut $40 billion from food stamps over the next decade, which would force about 14 million people from the program by 2023, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Go ahead GOP. Make the American people suffer and go hungry so that you can spend money on useless wars. It is so sad that these clowns only care about party status.

The GOTP will seek to blame liberal over-spending for the cuts. I wonder if they realize the ripple effect of taking a few billion out of the food industry economy might have on farmers. I wonder how many of those same farmers are cheering their House representatives on to cut their number of potential customers.

Obama and the Democrats have been out there selling food stamps to people. They award a prize to a person that was able to break down an areas "mountain pride" to get them to accept food stamps. What kind of government do we have that thinks it is their job to break down its citizens pride?!! Leftist extremists have taken over the federal government.

Good its about time. Too many people make a living off of welfare, even when their are jobs available. I am tired of supporting lazy useless people that refuse to work.

Americans are fed up with these Republicans.

The party of "so-called" Christian Conservatives goes against Jesus' teachings.

    Matthew 25:40
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Wonder if Perry would conclude that this, too, is like "putting people on the Titantic.....".
We will forever have the millionaires, billionaires, and at the other end of the spectrum – the poor and needy.
We are losing the middle class and they are the ones who work in food banks, donate food, clothes, etc
    and do it with compassion.
"Suffer the little children to come unto me" is not part of the Teapublican agenda. They apparently have
misinterpreted the Bible and think it says "let the children suffer"..................
Harsh, but what other explanation is there for their callousness?

Well, if the program is cut then the federal government should make darn sure the people cut are the ones that are gaming the system or engaged in fraudulent activity. 3.8 million sounds like a lot but it is a small percentage of the people getting food stamps.

You want to witness the insanity first hand, go stand in just about any major grocery store and watch the checkout lines. The people leaving with massive loads of food are likely on food stamps. Just watch how they pay. I've gotten behind several of these people in line. The food they are buying at my expense is better than what I can afford to buy.

Republican Andy Harris of Maryland said there is to much fraud in food stamps so they are reducing it $40 billion in funding, He said that should take care of the Fraud. What about the billions in Fraud in Medicare and SS?

a coworker of mine is struggling and can barley get buy supporting his family of 4 on 42k salary. he has no car and lives in a renter 2 bed room apartment. he was telling me the other day he is thinking of quitting and going back on welfare and food stamps. He said he never struggled then because he could collect and work under the table. Now that he's working he is miserable and poor and can't afford basic things like food or transportation. Its sad when its easier and more profitable to not work and live of the government. what happened to America?

At some point the American people should finally realize that the Republicans only agenda is to destroy them and the nation. The Republicans are the TERRORIST of this nation and we need to defeat them.

A financial crisis that majority of us have never witnessed in our lifetimes, created under a republican administration, being fixed by a democrat President, a snails pace recovery of jobs, and the republicans idea is to kick people off of food stamps. A lot of people never had to depend on food stamps until this crisis happened. So the republican plan is to let people starve and maybe they'll die off. Cruel, heartless, pathetic people Mr. Cantor and his legion of rejects are.

@just saying, I know you are safely ensconced in your tea tard bubble but there are a LOT of Americans, even members of the vanishing middle class, who right now depend on food stamps.
You have the working poor who might be working two or three jobs or somebody sith a low paying FT job who still needs a PT job to make ends meet. I know at least one person like that who makes just enough, after taxes, to have a roof over her head for herself and her teenage son and food stamps is what they use.
They don't have, like your fat radio boy and insanity who both make millions and think everyone on food stamps is either a leech or don't know how to manage their money, extra money for big screen TVs or iPads, or tablets or a brand new car or expensive vacations. That's their one sided sick version of the poor in this country.
Your boy crazy beck said that the poor in other countries die. What he probably meant, who really knows about his warped brain, is that in the US the poor should also die but because they get help from food stamps they don't die or it takes our poor longer to die from hunger.
The humanity of the tea tards (I am selling them ALL that now) is non existent because when you have a PT job that you don't even do right and you have free meals, free parking, free flights to/from home, health insurance for life and a fat pension why should you care about those less fortunate.

Actually, it was most likely the severe economic impact of The Great Recession that broke the "mountain pride" of your friends, neighbors, and family. They swallowed it, and went out to get some food stamps. I hope they have found a way to back to the road they were on before the The Great Recession. If they're like most folks, though, they're still on food stamps.

I wonder if the House Republicans realize the impact that this will have on Wal*Mart employees? Meaning that the Walton family just may have to hand out millions and millions in pay raises because their employees will no longer be eligible for food stamps.

I for one am against any type of fraud when it comes to federal dollars. And yes! There is fraud in the food stamp program. However, now is not the time to be slashing this program when people are out of work. As far as massive loads of groceries goes, do you know the size of that person's family and how long those groceries have to last for? Just asking.

anytime the government gives out some program--it is almost impossible to cut it back-look at Detroit. The abuse in the food stamp program gets the obama's of the world elected but we have to stop those who should not be on the program. It is not an entitlement-it is for those who really need it. I think that
    1. any person on food stamps has to go to some office to pick it up.
    2. anyone who wants government assistance needs to have a drug test-why should tax payers pay any
assistance to anyone who has the money for drugs.
    3. those on unemployment have to 1. prove they are looking for a job and or 2. have to report to an office to work
to get paid-there are so many projects to help the poor, etc that could be done instead of having people just
sit at home and watch tv.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I visit the supermarket on a regular basis, and when I'm in the checkout line, I'm a little busy dealing with my own purchases to stalk the people in front of me. Not everyone who buys better food than you is on food stamps, so quit your jealous bellyaching and get a better job so you can afford to buy "better food".

No lie Food stamps has alot of fraud, but dont tell me we cant afford it but we can afford a bloated military budget. The bottom line is the GOP and DEMS have different ways of spending other people money, GOP on war and Dems on helping people here in the US.

When the GOP offers to cut off oil and gas subsidies (when oil companies rake in huge and record profits year in and year out), I'll know they are really interested in saving money. Otherwise, they are just punishing the defenseless- something they apparently get off on. Well, that and corporate "socialism".
