House votes to take 3.8 million off food stamps

Washington (CNNMoney) - House Republicans on Thursday passed a controversial bill that would drop 3.8 million people from food stamp rolls next year by making it tougher for some families to qualify.

The bill would cut $40 billion from food stamps over the next decade, which would force about 14 million people from the program by 2023, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Why does the GOP hate the poor? There are many people that are one meal away from starving to death and now you want to take that meal. How about raising the minimum wage so people can afford to be self sufficient? Oh I forgot, more people making more money and spending it will explode the economy. And they call themselves Christians. WWJD??

Never in our history has there been a more worthless political party. It seems we have reverted to the 1930's in Germany.

The I want what I want when I want it rep from va just told the poor (and middle class families) to literally go you know what yourselves because how dare you and your family not be able to eat like I do on all of $4.50 a day!
The repugs are a disgusting bunch of mutants because Hinson beings is not what I think of when I think of them
Don Shaich, president of Panera, tried living, with his wife, on that amount for one week. A millionaire that actually helps people and Panera gas five cafés around the country to help out people who don't have enough money to eat.
We will go to Panera more often now. Papa johns, not so much.

Bill Clinton to had individuals looking for work or working or going to school with children to better themselves and make themselves less DEPENDENT on Uncle Sam. Being self reliance is better then being all ways dependent on others, makes for good peer models for children. Isn't that what parents are supposed to be?

It is amazing how cold hearted these people are. They will literally take the food out of the mouth of struggling people at the same time they won't support raising the minimum wage which would also help take people off the SNAP program. AMERICA you need to understand that when a person with a family works 40 hours a week at $8.00 an hour, the AMERICAN TAXPAYERS will send that individual a "tax credit" check because their earnings are less than the "minimum" the government feels that family needs to "SURVIVE" So, WE THE PEOPLE make up the difference so the Wal-Marts, McDonalds, and Targets of the world can continue to grow, pay their employees a little above the minimum wage, while they pay their CEO $20 to 30 million dollars a year. It is pathetic.

Did they take off the money that was drained out Trillions of dollars on unneeded wars? 25 billion dollars aide to Pakistan a rogue nation that splashed dirt in the eyes of USA, collected 25 billion yearly keeping Bin Laden in Abbottabad? Nonsense. Now they cry on food coupons to our own people. Are they bringing money's from Cayman Islands? Swiss accts?

Good. Cut down on the corruption and the unqualified. Leave the food stamps to those who really need it and cut down on the bloated spending that is the US Budget.

I forgot to mention as the Congress separated the Farm Bill from the SNAP program they decided to continue the subsidizes for American corporate farmers. The current farm bill makes sure that when farmers have a bad climate year they do not LOSE money, they do not BREAK EVEN, they get enough money from the government to MAKE A PROFIT!! Many of the members of Congress have received MILLIONS of dollars personally from this program. So while they worry about wealthy farmers staying wealthy, they are not worried about taking $4.50 a day from poor, struggling Americans. It is so cold-blooded, heartless, and shameful words do not do it justice.

No need to worry–as soon as 2017 comes and a white president is once again inaugurated, they'll have no problem with their illiterate base or anyone else receiving food stamps. This is once again, just another attempt to showcase the president as a "welfare president" and to insinuate all black people are government dependent and in need of handouts so they vote democratic. Just watch how UNATTENTIVE they are in a few years to this bill once things are "back to normal" and they feel safe once again in their Amerika.

Instead of attacking everyone on food stamps by limiting everybody, why not just limit all drug users, illegal immigrants and other criminals to zero foodstamps. Also, they could easily make the EBT cards only work at large food stores and only for staple foods,ie no lobster and porterhouse

Study shows 50% are children, and 17% are seniors and disabled, yet onward to victory! What would they do if they controlled both houses and presidency?

Why are the rich spending so much money attacking the poor? And the bigger question, why are so many OK with this, they believe it when the gop tries to convince them it will make their life better?
