Washington (CNN) – Tea party firebrand Rep. Michele Bachmann was unabashed in her criticism of Obamacare and the president it’s named for Thursday night, comparing President Barack Obama with a British tyrant.
“He’s used to being George III,” the Minnesota Republican said of what she described as the president’s refusal to negotiate with Congressional Republicans over the continuing resolution to fund the government.
George III was king of England during the American Revolution.
Bachmann was debating the topics of Obamacare and the Republican plan to defund it on CNN’s “Crossfire” with Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York.
In a heated exchange, the two displayed some of the fierce contention consuming Congress over the looming federal shutdown threat.
Bachmann continually argued that neither she nor Republicans have any interest in shutting down the government, only in defunding Obamacare by tying it in with a continuing resolution to fund the government. Variations of that plan have been pursued by Congresses of the past in attempts to kill a variety of pieces of legislation, Bachmann said.
Shutting down the federal government is “the last thing we’re going to do,” Bachmann said, pointing out that Obamacare has become an increasingly unpopular law that she and other Republicans consider to be socialized medicine.
Rangel countered that the defund plan is a nonstarter, doomed to fail in the Democrat-controlled Senate. “It’s ridiculous and they know that it can’t be done,” he said.
Republicans want to “kill everything the president stands for,” Rangel said. “That’s not negotiation. That’s putting a gun to the president’s head.”
Rangel argued that Obama in fact got reelected on the issue of Obamacare.
To that Bachmann countered: “And so did I.”

Michele who?
She is so right. I think that even if Obama knows the law is wrong he would still say it's good because it's his idea. He could have corrected many of the problems with this and many of his other policies but he never completes one thing before moving to another. He appears disjointed and unsure of himself.
Bachmann is a rwnj, No one listens to her nonsense anymore
It's a miracle how these non-working deal-making millionaire politicians always know what's best for us.
I;m really leaning toward the idea that we should let red states opt out of Obamacare, cut Medicaid funding to them and let them handle their healthcare issues themselves if that's what they want to do.
Ugh, just talking heads yelling at each other. Sad.
Will somebody tell Snookie of the GOP that she should not throw rocks when she lives in a glass house!
It's like she's 10 years old or something.
Palins looking for a running mate......
Does anyone care what Bachmann thinks, does, or says? I mean, really?
George III? Her brain must be frozen.
So, Bachmann is used to playing the Fool.
Every King needs at least one. We have plenty.
Shut up crazy lady.
Isn't Bachman in jail yet? Why not?
Bachmann has proven herself to be a poorly educated wanna-be bent on destroying Obama's presidency.
A better comparison is George Bush III. Obama continues to raise our debt, has expanded civil infringements by the NSA, and has no clear idea on how to save the economy. A blue print copy.
"I can't get enough of you, baby...
I can't get enough of you, baby,
Yes it's true...
Baby yes it's tru-uue"
The Republican line ever since Obama has been elected has been for the Tea Party to throw one tantrum after another, repeatedly threatening to shut down our government and plunge the economy back into recession. Then, if Obama doesn't say "Yes Massa!" and do exactly what the Tea Party tells him to they accuse him of being a Stalinist dictator or a tyrant.
This shtick is getting old. Michelle Bachmann made a fool of herself in the 2012 election and anyone who is so idiotic as to actually see her as a superior alternative to Obama is too stupid to bother worrying about.
The 2014 elections will be the end of the Tea Party.
Obama is not going to give up Obamacare. In his first term, when the Democrats had the White House and a narrow majority in both houses of Congress that came in on Obama's coattails only because Republicans were not happy with Romney, Obama used that to quickly and violently thrust Obamacare down our throats and up our butts – so quick and violent that no one in Congress read the entire bill – that the only way it can be described is as the rape of America. Obama is not only a tyrant. He's also the rapist of a nation.
Wild eyed and combative Bachman never met a question that she couldn't ignore.
Bachmann, like so many other far-right clowns, is in permanent campaign mode. She isn't part of governing the U.S. She's just another performer for the most disconnected, delusional, ignorant segment of the U.S. population. With each election it becomes more obvious that these people are marginal and too few in number and too disorganized to garner a majority of the popular vote in a national level contest. The GOP and the Tea Party are at odds with one another and the GOP is desperate to win back the splinter voters who once were loyal Republicans. But the game is over. The two sides can no more reconcile than can so-called "conservatives" reconcile with so-called "liberals". Game over, the liberals win. Now about that promise so many made back in October 2012 to leave the U.S. if Obama was re-elected...
This lady has no clue what she is talking about. Didn't we witness that in 2008..
Why is anyone still listening to anything this sick, ignorant, lying fascist is saying? Huh?
This airhead Bachmann doesn't belong in politics, she needs to be placed in a mental asylum.
Michele, when are you going to get lost?
