Obama, Bill Clinton to discuss Obamacare

(CNN) – President Barack Obama will join former President Bill Clinton for a public conversation on health care next week, the White House announced Thursday.

White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters during the Obama administration's daily briefing that the president and former president "will engage in a conversation about the benefits and future of healthcare reform in America and access to quality healthcare around the globe," Carney said. The conversation will take place during next Tuesday's meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York.

Obama will be in New York participating in the United Nations summit.

Clinton appears to have become Obama's unofficial "secretary of explaining stuff," including the benefits of the controversial health care law. Clinton made the case for the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, at a speech at his presidential library in Arkansas earlier this month.

'Secretary of Explaining Stuff' sells Obamacare

The public conversation comes as congressional Republicans make a new push to defund Obamacare before the law's state healthcare exchanges go online next month. The GOP is attempting to push a continuing resolution that would fund the rest of the government while defunding Obamacare, which Democrats categorically oppose. The Republican move could result in a shutdown of the federal government if a deal is not reached this week or next.

Too funny.... our fake President relies heavily on a former real President. How pathetic is THAT?!! Maybe Clinton could also educate Obama on how not to blunder our country into another war by shooting off his mouth??

There is nothing Clinton can do or say that is going to change the facts that this law stinks and the American people don't want it to go into effect – except the freeloaders of course.

Maybe the American health care system can become the best in the world to the point where we can export it: graduating doctors; producing medicines and medical machines; providing rare treatments domestically not available anywhere else in the world. Much of this is already occurring. Maybe the ACA will create a demand for more medical personnel that will drive us over the top of that hill.

Thanks to the ACA, good things are starting to happen. Costs will go down, more options, and we will not have to pay for uninsured republicans who show up at emergency rooms. Well done Obama and the dems!

The republican efforts to distort the truth about the law are becoming more futile. I attended a town hall meeting with my Congressman Bobby Scott and he broke the truth down to the misinformed and uneducated about the law. That's what is needed. Elected representatives explaining the benefits and clarifying the facts from the outright lies.

Polls show that only 20-something percent of people want it repealed.

  8. You Own It

Obamacare already has medical professionals running for the hills and med students reconsidering their career path. It will create a part time society and erode what is left of the financial foundation of what was once a great country not to mention the second rate medicine all Americans will have to endure for the sake of a few covered under a crappy law. “You can keep your insurance if you like it”, BS.

Let's note some other recent Obama Successes:
    1) He has a record 46.5 million in Poverty
    2) Food stamp usage at an all-time high
    3) Lowest Job participation rate since 1978

Another little Obama tidbit, interesting that he said that "Raising the Debt Limit does not increase our Debt". Really? This from a guy who has presided over an average of $1.3 Trillion in deficit spending with no budget for the past 5 years. I guess community organizers don’t really know about economics; just free handouts. What a loser!

@anonymous, fake president? Where was your rage when war criminal #43 took us into two unfunded wars and then would rather play golf than go after bin laden, the dead or alive poster boy?
So that means that everyone who voted for him really didn't or the votes were wrong?
Oh right, your racism is showing BIG time.
@barryinvegas, you live in a state in which people supposedly self explode because of the heat. The brain is the first thing to go, ya' know? You all should be thankful that Obamacare can help.

I didn't have to read too long to find the comments saying President Obama needs Clinton. You people hated Clinton when he was POTUS, but now he's the real Prez and President Obama is fake. I think you guys need to go back to class because you've been screaming the same BS for almost 5 years now. It's funny, you call him fake and unqualified but he has the republikkkan party losing their minds. They keep trying to bring him down and he keeps popping back up. I should have been a psychic.......

Keep up the good work Mr. President and many thanks to my 2nd favorite POTUS.

    @barryinlasvegas,

"the American people don't want it to go into effect"

False. Look at the polls. They don't like it very much, but they don't want it dismantled either. And they certainly don't want the government shut down over it, which is what the Republicans are about to do.

Enjoy the wilderness, conservatives. Liberals were there in the 70s and 80s. It takes a long time to find your way out again.

"So why we at 1978 level of employment?"

Its funny how the crazies on the right cry about Obamacare saying in terrible but guess what its not terrible for people with pre-existing illness, college students can stay on parents plan, people with lifetime benefit max, so my point is crazies is that it may suck for you but it great for the other millions it helps. Thats the problem with the GOP if its terrible for them its a bad bill. Nothing is gonna satisfy 100% of the people, but guess what Obama ran on his healthcare and won in 2012 so get over it, the bill is here to stay. These crazies make me laugh every time they open their mouths.

That's an outright lie. I never call anyone a name. Never. Make a liar out of me. Find a post where I did, and I will show a post of someone faking my name. Just earlier this week, I chastised everyone on these boards for name calling. So, practice what you preach and don't lump everyone who disagrees with you into one basket. I'm no liberal, either. I'm a moderate who happens to think that Republicans have lost their little pieces of minds.

Just another pack of lies the majority of people didn't want this in the first place.

1.8 trillion dollars for what more government in our face. Our government can't even balance a budget and when the House sends a budget to the Senate Reid says the same thing every year for the past five years DOA.

Wake up people this has been going on for 5 years and still counting.

I ask the same thing since the GOP ran on jobs, jobs, jobs in 2010. Must be a hard pill to swallow since the GOP pulled a fast one you and your friends on the right.

    @The Real Tom Paine:
I don't think Marie is mocking the right here whatsoever. This comment is exactly what I'm talking about. It's bigoted however it's against a Canadien so it's perfectly okay. Do see the idiocy/hatred/vitriol here? Because this man has a different point of view he is viewed as "evil". Ahhhhh, the open minded left....not.
    **********************************
Tom, have you ever criticized anyone on your side for ill-informed, over the top comments? Please, don't bother lecturing a liberal on how close-minded we are supposed to be when every day I see liberals referred to as dumocraps, or socialists, or any number of forms of abuse: just sayin, hector slagg, guest and others are notorious for doing that, yet you single out only liberals. I will call a spade a spade in here, as will several others, but please at least admit that you have your own coterie of vile hatemongers that, to my knowlege, you have never taken to task in spite of more than enough evidence. Pointing out Cruz's origin is not a form of abuse, but it only points out the irony of those who demanded to see Obama's birth certificate and still believe he is not a citizen so readily and uncritically accept Ted Cruz as their savior when he has done nothing to earn respect or acclaim.

I haven't see a post where they say tea party or conservatives in years it is always some derogatory name!! I agree with Tom, you seem like the more reasonable and self thinking one of the group, I don't see you calling names nearly as much as they do if any at all.

Yes, and frustration gets the better of me as well. I see it all the time with a predictable cast of people on the Right. Every post is an excuse for them go attack their imaginary enemy. Most people want to post their thoughts and have a reasonable duscussion, but its a little hard when you are conditioned by both the people you agree with and with teh people you disagree with into adopting phrases that we would rearely use in a normal conversation. Am I perfect? Nope, not at all, but there are statements that are so outrageous my self control diappears. Do I like the fact that people I agree with go with a cheap shot before a thoughtful post? Not at all. Its also up to the more even-tempered among us to remind some of the children in here to knock it off: are you prepared to do that?

Interesting. Yesterday you were declaring the American public to be too stupid to know what's good for them, and today you put them on a level with Solomon. make up your mind, do you trust the people of this country to make the right decision, or will you condemn them as rubes and idiots for not doing what you want them to do?

Conservatives, if they want to argue in a public forum, need to occasionally bring facts to the discussion. "Fake President"? He was elected twice by majorities. Heck, Clinton only managed pluralities in his victories. It has been conclusively shown that Obama was born in Hawaii. He's the President.

"Blunder our country into another war?" What war? Where? We haven't started another war anywhere. What is "anonymous" talking about?

Obama's Affordable Health Care Act is why I voted for him in 2008 and 2012. After he was elected I was/am happy with most of the Democrats' policies. Obama has made it a mission to make positive change. I trust him. I do not trust the Tea Party. Obama cares about us and works very hard to make change. After talking to a very well informed Democrat I de-
cided to embrace what they stand for. Beware of the right wing proproganda against Obamacare and the Demo-
    cratic party.
