Obama keeps pressure on Congress in weekly address

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Five years after the economic collapse, President Barack Obama warned Americans on Saturday that if Congress does not pass a budget to prevent the government from shutting down, the nation could be headed toward another fiscal calamity.

"After five years spent digging out of crisis, the last thing we need is for Washington to manufacture another," Obama said in his weekly address.

Calling passing a budget Congress's "most basic constitutional duty," President Obama painted GOP leaders in Congress as hostages to the far right of the Republican Party who would “plunge this country back into recession – all to deny the basic security of health care to millions of Americans.”

The Republican-controlled House voted 230 – 189 Friday to defund Obamacare.

The president criticized Republicans for being willing to risk reigniting the economic recession in the name of partisan politics.

"I will not allow anyone to harm this country’s reputation, or threaten to inflict economic pain on millions of our own people just to make an ideological point,” Obama said.

While reiterating that the economy is still making progress, Obama said the country is "running out of time" to both pass a budget and raise the debt ceiling. The latter move would allow the Treasury Department to "pay America’s bills" and avoid morphing into - in the president's words - "a deadbeat nation."

"We are the world's bedrock investment," Obama said. "And doing anything to threaten that is the height of irresponsibility.”

our president has more class in his big toe then the entire republican party. i would be totally ashamed to call myself a republican. the GOP today is a joke. they have not done a single thing to help this president or the country. they are extremist and radicals who only care about a small % of people. the president won 2 elections. he ran on health care. he won re-election on health care. rommney ran vowing to get rid of the ACA and he lost. what don't you get? there may be alot of laws that the american people are split on in terms of popularity. so, the solution is to threaten to shut down the govt. or default on our debt. these clowns in the GOP should move to another country if they don't like living here. i will help them pack their bags. they are a bunch of spoiled rotten babies.

As with Syria, Obama "leads" from behind, playing the Blame-Game with Congress as his trump card. How about Real Leadership?
Like, fixing a lousey HC Bill or, at least, explaining it before 1 October, or working With, NOT against Congress to spare US more debt, fraud, and confusion!

The Democrats will loose the Senate, too, in
2014, unless they stop worshiping an inept President, who loves his "base", while many of them maraude Oakland and Chicago- nightly- while he "fundraises" or shams his duties.

Let Biden do it! For now!

Only discretionary spending will be affected by a government shutdown. Unfortunately for Republicans, most of Obamacare's spending is mandatory spending which is not affected by a shutdown. Medicaid expansion is mandatory spending, and so are subsidies to buy insurance. In short, a shutdown does not really affect Obamacare.

I have reading for months the most ridiculous post of totally uneducated racist rightwing pieces of garbage. I tried
to keep an objective mind but your ignorance is mindboggling. I rather you just admit you hate having a black
president and you cant stand it. Rather you just sit in front of your Tv watching fox news dribble or better yet
listen to rush or Glenn spew their venom toward our elected president. It must be awfully tough being uneducated
    racist losers.

Just got my health insurance renewal notice. Up 177 percent for next year!!! I would. Of course actually pay nothin if I were no responsible, a dope addict or a welfare fraud. Unfortunately, we have a corrupt, lying, inept, incompetent president who works to destroy those of us who pay taxes and live according to the rules. DUMP OBOZOCARE. This is the same Kenyan village idiot that said that raising the debt limit does not mean he will raise the debt and of course the liberal media applauds.

The President is attempting to get the Republican Party to focus on what I call the
.................................................WHATS AMERICA GOING TO DO LIST...
    1) What is America going to do about the minimum wage that is 25% lower than the minimum wage of 30 years ago?
    2) What is America going to do about the American tax payer funding those low wages?
...For those of you that don't know, when a person works 40 hours a week and their income is below the poverty line the government (U.S. taxpayers) send them a tax credit making up the difference.
    3) What is America going to do about college tuition that is rising 7 to 10% a year when inflation is rising only 2% and wages 1%?
    4) What is America going to do about the crumbling infrastructure that is 50 to 100 years old?
    5) What is America going to do about the unreasonable cost of health care services?
    6) What is America going to do about the CEO of a company making $40 million a year when it's workers make $8.00
an hour and have difficulty in being scheduled 40 hours a week?
    7) What is America going to do about that same CEO having so many loop holes in the tax code that he pays a lower
percentage of taxes than an American making $60,000 a year?
    8) What is America going to do about the influx of money that is skewing our political process?
    9) What is America going to do about the HUGE waste ridden military budget?
    10) What is America going to do the help the so called AMERICAN DREAM become available for most of us, like it was
25 years ago, instead of just a very, very, few like today?
I am 58 years old and our country is in REAL TROUBLE because the very things that made us "exceptional" are dissipating into nothingness. Our NEWS MEDIA is failing us because they are more interested in what a politician "thinks or says" instead of what they "accomplish". It is heartbreaking because so few Americans realize this is happening because about 40 Congressional Republicans are more interested reducing the size of government on the backs of those less fortunate. The WORKING POOR!!

    Ignorant of the facts; and
Has no knowledge she is all the above.
All traits of a TP republican. Please go TO school and learn how to spell before you shout at the president who, in fact, holds several degrees.
You might be interested to learn that "poles" are associated with the North Pole and voting "polls" are where we will all go to vote your kind out. Get it?

""Obama keeps pressure on WHO ? Congress ??? LOL – hey CNN, How about the other way around. How about ""Congress keeps Pressure on Obama"" – – – and as long as the bonehead is at the helm, They are going to keep Obama's neck in a Vise !! I mean, I hate to say it, but it's the truth. Tell ya what – – I don't remember any POTUS in the last 50 or 60 years, where the Congress absolutely hates this POTUS – – as a matter of Fact, I think I actually heard Wolf Blitzer quote that. ( congress hates this president)
In other words, there hasn't been any president in modern history, where the congress has been trying to put the shaft to the POTUS – – no matter what he does – – I mean, Obama has even tried things, that were "republican's ideas" and they STILL don't want it. ( what's up with THAT ) LOL – I'll bet his barber isn't putting the "gray" in his hair. It's going that way, naturally. lol to be perfectly honest, that Job should pay way more than 400K – it should be at least 1 million.

Mr. President, if there is not enough money to pay all the approved bills, then please don't pay for the tanks coming from Speaker Boehner's district.

He will get the message. And we don't need more tanks anyway.

Mr President if there isn't enough money to pay our bills please quit sending our money to countries that really despise us, and countries that don't want our help! Also to people that would stab us in the back! Please also pass a budget and stick to it to get our economy back in check. Quit trying to make us into Canada also if we wanted their socialized medicine we'd move there.
