Bono imitates Bill Clinton

(CNN) - Bono to the rescue.

With Bill Clinton showing up late to the first panel of the day at the annual Clinton Global Initiative gathering in New York City, the Irish rock star, businessman, and global activist took his place, nailing an imitation of the former president.

"When I first met Bono, he walked into the Oval Office and I actually thought he was a member of his own road crew. He wasn't dressed right. Actually, I felt like the rock star on that occasion," Bono said, in a quality impersonation of the 42nd president.

The U2 front man kept the audience entertained for about a minute or two until Clinton made his way back to the stage. Clinton then joked that "I must be really easy to make fun of."

In a serious note, Bono, a leader in the philanthropic efforts to eradicate AIDS in Africa, praised CGI's efforts in the battle against the deadly disease.

- CNN's Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.
