Washington (CNN) - Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz took to the Senate floor on Tuesday afternoon for remarks on the shutdown debate that could potentially last through the night - a dramatic step in defense of his high profile, controversial plan to prevent any funding for Obamacare.
"I intend to speak until I am no longer able to stand," he said.
FULL STORY
@Demobust....Well, first you will have to say something that is true to make it hurt. Intelligent would not hurt either.
"It appears the truth is too much for you leftist losers to take. Mindless takers like you are what is destroying this country. Yes, the truth really does hurt."
Which truth that Turd Cruz spoke is that? That people who told him he procedurally can't succeed at defunding the ACA are the same as Nazi appeasers? Or the "truth" that Hero Cruz is just like JFK because people told JFK that you can't get to the moon, but JFK proved them all wrong? Or hey, maybe it's the "truth" that "blah blah blah when my dad came to this country he worked as a dishwasher yammer yammer I have nothing more to say about the ACA and even the parts where I tried to were superficial and just rhetorical garbage demagoguery and attempts to sell myself as a hero." Which one?
Alot of these GOP supporters on here dont have a clue. The reason alot of these Repubs hate the bill is they have military bases in their district or states. So GOP Supporters get out of the FOX bubble, Military bases wont receive money if the government shut down to pay the military personnel, get it? Military is Government!!!
additional info from previous note – Thats why Cruz wants to send a CR with just military spending.
Mr. Cruz goes to Washington!
There are, apparently, principled politicians in D.C...at least one, anyway!
The threat of a government shutdown does not compare to the social and economic devastation that Obamacare promises.
@Tom Paine
Don't know how old you are, Tom, but your children and grandchildren will be paying for the monstrosity of Obamacare for generations to come – not to mention the poor healthcare you will receive, especially when you're considered old by the government and they won't "take care of you" anymore. Derailing the government, as you phrase it, will be temporary. Obamacare will be permanent.
@Tom Paine
And by the way, the healthcare part of Obamacare is the small part. The real motive behind it is to paralyze freedoms and growing businesses in America. Remember? The almighty one wants to "fundamentally change America?" Why don't all of you leave America if you don't like it the way it is. We're fighting for the freedoms and rights so many have fought and died for – the freedoms many of us still believe in.
"This bill needs to be stopped and re-written."
*******************************************
The GOP has voted 42 times to repeal the ACA and not once presented a slate of improvements to the legislation or a replacement that achieves the same objectives in a better way. When they present a legitimate alternative, we can talk.
The GOP won control of the house campaigning on "jobs, jobs, jobs" but we have seen virtually zero jobs legislation from them since Boehner became speaker.
Now they once again threaten our economic recovery, made more difficult by their own inaction, with a government shutdown perhaps followed by a threat not to repay our debts. The last time they played around with the debt ceiling, it resulted in the downgrade of our credit (read the report – it was not about debt but Congressional dysfunction leading to uncertainty regarding rational action on the part of the United States.
This is irresponsible beyond belief – economic malpractice by the party that claims to be the economically responsible one. The truth is in their actions.
you can talk all you want since you have nothing else to do but waste time
@Sniffit,
Or the "truth" that Hero Cruz is just like JFK because people told JFK that you can't get to the moon, but JFK proved them all wrong?
I can't compare JFK to Ted Cruz ,
and going to the moon should be more difficult then giving America affordable health care.
Shouldn't it ?
Perhaps Mr. Cruz has beliefs that he holds true and is standing by his principles. Did you ever think of that?
Also, if repubs all march in lockstep then this whole debate should be blowing that mindless talking point by the left away. The only ones that appear to mindlessly follow their leader are the dems. They are the ones that demonstrate an inability to think for themselves and only do what their masters tell them to do.
" The real motive behind it is to paralyze freedoms and growing businesses in America."
Derp derp derpa derp derpy doooooooo.....
"Will Ted Cruz be wearing a catheter and a diaper ?"
Neither. THIS IS NOT A FILIBUSTER. He has until the cloture vote is scheduled, which is (I think) 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, at which point he simply has to sit down, shut the hell up, and vote. He has no power to delay it and it has been scheduled. What you are watching is nothing more than an angry dog barking at the moon.
"Perhaps Mr. Cruz has beliefs that he holds true and is standing by his principles. Did you ever think of that?"
I did. And then I laughed at it.
@sonny chapman, maybe that is part of his problem. He just hangs.
I think Wendy has more cojones that this guy ever will.
"and going to the moon should be more difficult then giving America affordable health care.
Shouldn't it ?"
Apparently not. Everyone pretty much got on board to fund the waste of time being first to plant a flag on the moon just to show them godless commies what's what. Making sure all the earthlings living in the United States don't have to go bankrupt to get health care or don't have to go without it because of pre-existing conditions or because they were deemed "unworthy" of receiving health care due to their obvious moral turpitude and godlessness as evidenced by the poverty...that seems to be the bigger hurdle for some of these goofs.
@freedom,
Your so biased in fear it's scary !
Freedom without quality of life and stability is not freedom .
Cruz & his tGOP would rather destroy our economy, deny seniors SS, and cutoff our veterans than provide healthcare to millions of Americans.
Shameful & immoral behavior. Vote it out 2014.
"Perhaps Mr. Cruz has beliefs that he holds true and he is standing by his principles. Did you ever think of that?"
----
Yes, as a matter of fact I did "think of that", but sadly I am still waiting to know what those "principles" are.
One thing I have learned that he "holds true" to is his own arrogance and self-centeredness.
I didn't expect much, however, and in that regard, he has lived up (or down) to my expectations. Bullies are
not my favorite people.
@ Thomas
No fear here. You just don't want to hear the truth.
@ PD Sniffit

I find it an incredible talent that you have the ability to get inside of Ted Cruz's head. You are a remarkable person. Since he's clearly not winning any friends on either side of the aisle, I'd say that he is doing this based on what he thinks is right vs what will placate the repub leaders. That's just common sense.

How can you not see what his "principles" are? Never has a congressman shown such a clear distinction of what he believes in. He believes in small govt and the ACA grows govt enormously. And if you don't like "bullies", then you shouldn't really like the party that says things like "reward your friends and punish your enemies (the enemies being fellow Americans that are not in the same political party as you), or "elections have consequences" or "I will not negotiate." Those are the words of a bully...
