New York (CNN) - Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke starkly Thursday about ivory poaching in Africa, warning the practice funds terrorism in one of the world's tumultuous regions and could push the elephant species to extinction.
"There is growing evidence that the terrorist groups stalking Africa, including Al-Shabaab with its horrific attack on the mall in Nairobi, fund their terrorist activities to a great extent from ivory trafficking," Clinton told attendees at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting.

At least 67 people were killed after Al-Shabaab gunmen stormed the Westgate mall in Kenya's capital Saturday.
Clinton said unless poaching is reversed the African forest elephant could be extinct within a decade.
"I can't even grasp what a great disaster this is," she said. "I hope we can act out of concern for elephants but also out of concern for the security challenges that poachers are causing for our friends in Africa and beyond."
Al-Shabaab breaks new ground with complex Nairobi attack
She was joined by her daughter Chelsea and a group of African leaders to announce an $80 million dollar commitment to tackle the problem, including training enforcement officers and launching a public awareness campaign to dissuade people from purchasing ivory.
Clinton was expected to appear with her husband and daughter at the Clinton Global Initiative closing event Thursday afternoon.
She's doing something good again, what do we do? I know, ..BENGHAZI!!!!!
Tell that to China and the rest of the Orient who use it for their voodoo eastern "medicine."
No one cares. That is the real problem. Humans don't care about how many animals they drive to extinction.

thank you hillary clinton for tackling yet another high priority american issue. you are truly out there on the bleeding edge of something, we just don't know what.
btw, have you hunted down the murderers of your 4 employees yet? no? why not? it's been a year you know. are they less important than the elephants?
She cares more about elephants than the four men she left for dead in Benghazi. She is a disgrace. The gigs up, Hilary – your severe negligence as Sec of State, and the bellowing of "what difference does it make" will never go away...
She doesn't get it. Elephant poaching is just a symptom of the real problem – a deeply flawed belief system. Ironically, as the world reels from the senseless killings by Islamic terrorists in Kenya, New Yorkers are witnesses to pro-jihad Muslims marching down Madison Ave. – black flags and all. But Hillary is too PC to connect the dots.
Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi!
That's all you got??? It's amazing how one little woman strikes such fear in the hearts and minds of so many people.
But totally predictable.....
Everybody loves elephants, everybody hates terrorists.
Pretty safe, dontcha think, Clinton fans?
Warning to republicans: Now that you have driven up the cost of ammo, don't expect a warning shot.

It has nothing to do with beliefs, and everything to do with money. The elephants represent a viable black market income for terrorists- just like assualt rifles in Arizona gun shows and shops that can be sold through staw buyers to Mexican Cartels.

Why don't you ever say ANYTHING about the 60 State Dept. employees killed in 12 different attacks under Mr. Bush... or is that reality simply too hard to grapple with?
Freedom- the world is a mighty complex place, and Right wing "either-or" complaints mean nothing.

I know this sounds crazy, but I'm deathly frightened of elephants. I won't go to a circus, and I avoid them like the plague while at the zoo. Irrational phobia, probably... but we all have them.

Ironic that you are afraid of elephants, in light of your politics. Sorry, but that was too easy. I know all about irrational fears: mine is heights.

Sorry to hear that, Fair. All of us can have an mortal fear of something. Hang in there. But, I have to ask, though. What is the pet animal for the Republican Party? Your fear might be tryig to tell you something.
This is valuable web space being waisted on some that is not even running in 2016.
A. We still have over 3 more glorious years of the Obama Regime
B. Biden 2016
C. "what matter does it make"?!
D. The elephant probably posted an anti Muslim video on YouTube

There's plenty more dirt on Hilary, but that one topped them all. She implicated herself with her own negligence and callousness – exposed her ugliness for the world to literally see.

All of those deaths were not due to the Commander-in-Chief and his State Dept. ordering troops to STAND DOWN. And it is you – the Obama and Clinton supporters who do not have a grasp on the complexity of the world, and America's EXCEPTIONAL role in it.
