Fact Check: 30 million people will lose their employer health insurance under Obamacare

Assertion
Millions of people will lose their employer based health insurance under Obamacare:

During an appearance on CNN, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) made the following claim to Wolf Blitzer: “We know now the estimates from the government that about 30 million people are going to be cut off their employer health insurance because of Obamacare.”

The facts
We asked Ms. Bachmann’s office for clarification after her appearance. Her office sent us a link to this story in The Hill newspaper.

The story, which is more than a year old, cites a Congressional Budget Office study that estimates that as many as 20 million workers could lose their employer-based health insurance by 2019 because of Obamacare. But, the study goes on to say that this is the worst case scenario the CBO has looked at, and that it is equally possible that the number of people on company-based plans might increase by 3 million over that time period because of the new health care law.

A more recent study by the Stanford School of Medicine and published this week estimate that 37 million people may dump their employer-based coverage and buy insurance on the Obamacare exchanges because they could get a better deal.

Here is something AMERICA seems to be missing. The WORST thing about our heath care insurance is IT IS TIED TO OUR EMPLOYERS!!! This is a BAD IDEA that was started as a GOOD IDEA with the birth of unions because at the time VERY FEW people had insurance and the unions wanted to HELP their members. Back them most people stayed with their employers 20 or more years. This is no longer the case and we now need this insurance handled like any other service. We should control it individually like car insurance, so when we move from one job to the other our insurance goes with us. The Affordable Care act is the first step in that direction...WHICH WILL BE GREAT in the long run.....

    Translation:

    – Obamacare may actually be good for employers because people will be flocking to cheaper plans on the exchanges, leaving more $ for the business.

    – Obamacare may actually be good for employees because they will be grouped in larger pools through the exchanges rather than their workplace, getting cheaper plans.

The fact is rates are going down in states that aren't trying to block Obamacare implementation right this very moment. Although the proof is still to come, I would be very worried as a Republican that the 5 years of Obamacare bashing may blow up in their faces leading up to the 2014 election. This wouldn't be a small blow either. They have based all their political capital in saying its a complete sham and trying to repeal instead of doing the smart thing: Saying it has problems, presenting their own plan, waiting for implementation then jumping on said problems and taking credit for fixes through legislation. Instead they bet all their cards on it failing and if it doesn't they are going to lose all the trust and votes of many more Americans while boosting Obama/Dem support to a breaking point.

It's tragic that the middle class has no clue that they are being tricked into giving up the biggest tax deduction on IRS books, that for employer health premiums.
This tax deduction deprives the IRS of $250 billion per year.
    Sadly, Vladmir Putin is right:
"Recently Obama was reelected by a truly illiterate society, and he is ready to continue his lies of lowering taxes as he raises them..."

Wolf Blitzer grilled Ms. Bachmann. But did Piers Morgan grill former President Bill Clinton? Did I really need to ask?
Members of the Chicago-based Service Employees International Union Local 1 have gone on strike over recent job cuts by a janitorial company called Professional Maintenance. The reason for the cuts? The employer says it is because of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

That can't be true. Our great president, the former speaker of the house and the democrat liberal majority leader told us that once the democrat liberal passed the bill and the most corrupt president in history signed it and they let us read it. We would see that was not true. Gee, did they lie, AGAIN.

Though I don't know if the estimates are right, I work for a company that is slowly releasing it's full time employees during slow periods, then hiring part-time replacements who are scheduled to work 25 hrs/wk and are prohibited from working more that 30 hrs/wk. The boss gets slapped around a little when people work more than 25 hrs/wk. It is essentially turning itself into a company that only provides benefits to full time management level people and pays barely above minimum wage for it's temp & part-time workers.

In other words, Michelle, you stated what might happen, that a lot of people would lose their employee health insurance, but what you didn't say was, these people opted out of their employer insurance to go with ObamaCare instead. Makes a lot of difference when you tell the whole story, doesn't it?

Please...Give me a break! Bachman just like Palin could not anwser basic U.S. History questions that 8 to 10 year olds know! Consider the source and with Bachman she still believes the worlds flat and the moon is made of green cheese.

Well, If Michele Bachmann says it, it must be true. Those 30 million must be the elderly, women and children Obama is going to kill.

    NO FREE LUNCH,
While it appears a lot of people may get much lower rates for insurance with the Exchanges it also appears the Tax Payer's will pick up the rest.

Why would anyone in their right mind ask Bachmann for clarification? Just take it to Jesus and you will get the same answer. Ooops, I forgot. He talks to her directly.

If Bachmann quotes a statistic, that is reason enough to doubt it. That creature is notorious for being completely indifferent to facts and reality. She is a walking insult to reason and intelligence.

We pay 300+ for employer provided health care each month....There is NO diff between spending it at our jobs, or taking the same money and spending it on the exchanges.....NONE....

I agree Hector there is no free lunch. So, lets make states provide for their own self-defense and BIG Corporations pay for the Navy and armed forces required to provide them the safe sea lanes and skyways required to ship those cheap goods we love so much. I am sure they wouldn't pass on those costs to their consumers because we know how CEO's and other members of the C-suite love to cut their pay for the good of the company and country right?

Now that I think about it, making Corporations pay for the armed forces, might not be a bad idea. By making BIG corporations pay for all of the cost of shipping goods from outside of the U.S. to the U.S. should make foreign made goods far more expensive than those made here in the U.S.A.

    Just sparking the fire.

I make $9 an hour. I used to work 38 hours a week. As of the first of the year my employer cut our hours to a maximum of 28 hours per week to avoid obamacare. I'm out about $300 a month and now I'm going to be forced to buy insurance. The online calculators I have used have estimated my cost for insurance will be about $120 per month. I will be better off quitting my job completely and taking even more government support.
