CNN Poll: GOP would bear the brunt of shutdown blame

Washington (CNN) - If the federal government shuts down starting Tuesday because of a bitter partisan battle over the new health care law, more people say congressional Republicans rather than President Barack Obama would be responsible, according to a new national survey.

A CNN/ORC International poll released Monday morning, hours before funding for the government is scheduled to run out, also indicates that most Americans think Republicans in Congress are acting like spoiled children in this fiscal fight, with the public divided on whether the president is acting like a spoiled child or a responsible adult.

Really funny that the democrats are the ones who won't sit down and talk. Guess this is something we should be use to. Grown adults on both sides acting like children. It's always your falt not mine. I totally believe that no matter which party or house you belong to if you put things off until the last day you should be stuck on the hill doing the work they should have done months ago.

THAT'S THE GAME PLAN!!!!! As always wait until the last minute, refuse and compromise, absent since Friday, the President and the Democrats cover the media negatively and then blame the Republicans for actually doing what the American people want. Don't shut down government, but give them one year waiver to learn more about ACA, like the President (who changes LAWS to his benefit) gave businesses. I always believed that BILLS SIGNED INTO LAW could only be changed by Congress, I guess I'm just stupid right along with all Americans who voted X2 for this President.

They were in their place of work DRUNK Saturday night, trying to do their jobs.

Would you be fired if YOU were DRUNK while working? Kick every last tea partier OUT in 2014

They are irresponsible, petulant children listening to a few hundred people instead of 300 million.

Obama Wants the government to shut down. that's why he isn't doing his job as in work with the other branches of government. he has a house that's been made up by public votes and is defending a law that isn't ready and the majority of americans don't want. if all you Dems feel your guy won clean, without the assistance of the IRS, then you should respect that the house has been set up the same way. Obama wants to negotiate with terrorists but not the American Congress? how weak and pathetic!

    Polls schmolls.
Republicans do not care about you, me, or this country.
Republican's only focus and intent is to disgrace, discredit, and disenfranchise THIS President at the expense of THIS country.
We don't need a freakin' poll to tell us that.

I reckon time is not passing as it should be. I wish it could be now 5 minutes to mid-night and all these crazy republicans be held accountable. They can't cruz-cruise, bull-doze everyone and think they own everyone, everything and the entire nation. This kind of behaviour must stop. Enough already.

Shame on the GOP for allowing the Tea Party to dictate its policies and srategies. Shame on Speaker Boehner for his failed leadership. Shame on Sen Ted Cruz for leading the Tea Party on a bullying and destructive course.

This is ultimately in Obama's hands, and since he refuses to listen to the American people – which the GOP is incidentally listening to – then the shutdown is his decision. He negotiates with Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood, and others, but not with Americans in Congress. That's the awful truth.

Your bogus polls and media coverage may incriminate the GOP, but the American people are the ones being hit with this monstrosity of a law – they're losing their jobs, employers are having to adjust drastically the way they do business, or they're hit with huge insurance costs or fines from the government. Although Americans did not show their smarts with the past two elections, they are getting smarter now. This mess will surely come back to haunt the democrats and Obama, and anyone affiliated with him in the upcoming elections.

Well, no surprise here, the GOP has been spoiling to shutdown the government for quite a while. Meanwhile I love their handwringing- poor Mr. Cruz claiming he's a deal maker- just wreck a little bit of the ACA and we'll fund the government....
Ha! These clowns fail to realize the ACA is settled law, and here in the United States we don't overturn settled law because a hyper radical band of minority politicians can't abide by poor people getting health care.

    Sorry, GOP YOU lose!

The Senate Republicans are moving in the opposite direction from House Republicans. The rift is obvious, and plain for all to see, except to the Tea Party. This rift in the Republican party will be blamed for a government shutdown. For a group that claims to be as concerned about costs as the Tea Party, it should behooove them to avoid a shutdown and another debt ceiling debacle. Unfortunately, their common sesne and good judgement is blinded by their ideological faith and hatred.

This poll is weighted heavy on Independents. How many of them are too embarrassed to call themselves Republicans but will nonetheless always vote Republican?

Shut it down John Boehner and lets see what 2014 brings. 60% don't want the government shut down over Obamacare. In what is in all likelihood a Republican overweighted poll, this is a big deal. Time to cut the teapers and the Koch brothers free. They've done enough damage to the GOP.
