With 800,000 Federal employees potentially being furloughed in a few hours, someone needs to ask the Senators and Representatives how many of their staffers will be furloughed?

As the vote is getting closer to midnight, my husband and I are already feeling the closure. His military retirement and disability payments are being withheld as they normally would be deposited today. Mortgage, other automatic bill payments will now not be paid and we will have to dip into other funds to pay them. Thank you Congress for your childishness and nonsense. I don't think you realize the full results of what you are doing OR the fact that the people of this country have had it!

What has become of this great nation when parties put themselves ahead of this country. I say lock them in a room, no water, no food and see what happens. By the way, between the sequester and now the shutdown, how many of them are affected? These people are playing with other peoples lives, not numbers. It's time for them to go!

"Well, the Democrats have a choice: they can shut down government, or they can shut down Obamacare."

Nope. The GOP House could vote for a Clean CR if they wanted to, but they don't want to. They're the ones shutting down the government.

The time for negotiations is during the appropriations process. The time to "shut down Obamacare" is during the elections - your team failed to take the Senate and White House in 2012, and even lost votes in the House. In 2014, to theoretically get rid of Obamacare, your team will have to win a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate large enough to override a Presidential veto. Doubtful. But let's say you do win the Senate, just not by overwhelming numbers. Then you'll have to elect a GOP President. And who's on deck? Rand Paul? Ted Cruz? Doubtful.

Having a son in the US Marine Corp. I am deeply disturbed by this impending gov't. shutdown. It is unconscionable that our military will not be paid as a result although now I hear they will be paid. It is you career politicians that do not deserve to get paid as long as you don't do your job, which is to do the business of the PEOPLE. It is about time that congress and the senate understand that they are there for one reason and that is to serve the PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and do what is right for the country not the Democratic party, not the Republican party, not the tea party not liberals not conservatives but the AMERICAN PEOPLE. Get it! I wish we the people could throw you all out and start fresh.

And the GOP will claim they are doing the American people a "favor" by shutting down the government as part of the game playing with Obamacare.

    Kiss Boehner's ring, America!

Senator Lindsey Graham said the the shutdown will hurt the Republican Party in the short-term but Obamacare will destroy the Democrat Party in the long-term. Is Graham putting Party above that of country?

Let them shut down the Government. If that's what it takes to remove Obama Care! I don't want Obama Care nor does millions of other Americans! When does the Government have the right to tell you to purchase health insurance or be fined?

Try reading newspapers from other nations. Many local and most national newspapers and services are on line. Read what the rest of the world thinks of our set to over health care.

Shut her down John Boehner and come what may. Reading through all the comments indicates that Boehner might be needing his crying tissue come morning.

"do what is right for the country not the Democratic party, not the Republican party, not the tea party not liberals not conservatives but the AMERICAN PEOPLE."

That's fine, John T., but ONE side has caused the crisis - the Republican Party, led by a fanatically conservative right-wing. They are trying to overturn the election that they lost last year. They are using extortion tactics to get what they want through what should be the non-partisan process of paying the country's bills - bills that we have already incurred.

The time for lofty, atop-the-mountain, plague-on-both-their houses disgust is over. I'm afraid you MUST Pick A Side.

These House Republicans are absolute idiots. 45 times they've tried to alter the ACA and 45 times they've been rejected. They are way past insanity. They all need to voted out of office. Stupid people should not be in charge of running our country.

Congress does not care how this affects folks who will be voting next year. I wonder if they (Congress) realize this? If I was Congress, I wouldn't be so certain about having job security.

All of these elected officials need to be gone. Its time for americans to take a stand against this foolish non sense. Its time for our government to work for us and not their own special interests. Americans are becoming more informed than ever on how our government works. Listen folks do the right thing for once and work together to get this done or get the hell out of our government. Your Fired.

This House of Representatives Has now tried 44 times to stop the Affordable Healthcare Act. One would expect more from the leadership but they all seem to fear the TEA Party group. This is not the time to hold this bill hostage. It is terribly unfair for Congress, which will be paid, of course, to shut down the government and stop the pay of those who work for the government.

Unfortunately, we have members who are not showing leadership or maturity. Fight the battles in conferences with the Senators but do not hold the American people hostage. Health Care is crucial and every person in the country should have the opportunity to have health care and to receive good health care. The hospital emergency rooms cannot be used as clinics. When uninsured folks need treatment and they receive it at the emergency room, the rest of us who are insured pay for it in higher costs.

Congress can go to a military hospital for care. They get the very best health care as do their families. Every other American deserves the best as well. This is a point that the Republican leadership seems to forget.
