Well this might be a good time to get a little silver or gold if the price falls with the shutdown.

The American people should demand Congress should not be exempt from furloughs. I think they can get a deal down if you hit them in the pocket book. Government shut down is to easy for Congress because it doesn't effect members of Congress.

House Republicans should all go home without pay, let them feel the pain of ordinary people without health insurance....

Because these people WANT health insurance? Nobody is denied healtcare now – why is it necessary to wreck the entire system
Oh, clueless one. Our great "system" as you blithely call is is out of reach in any legitimate means to almost 40% of Americans. Sure, they can go to an E.R., but they'll lose everything trying to pay their bill. You do know the #1 cause of bankruptcy is our wonderful heath care "system", right?
Now as to how grand our "system" is, well, its ranked 38th in the world by a variety of metrics- somewhere behind powerhouse nations like Costa Rica.
Face it the GOP wants a libertarian plutocracy- where the rich can get everything and the rest of is get to do without. Pretty funny for a lot who say they are "christian".

A friend of mine just heard that they are drinking in the House Caucus AGAIN. Anybody else heard anything about that?

I hope they take pics this time. They didn't Saturday, when some republicans were very inebriated.

Maybe that's how they coerce votes????

Sandra LeVin, I tried to reply to you, but CNN thought it not fit to post my perfectly civil comment. Read RS's post as my reply; it's more to the point, anyway.

Take over, RS - glad you're here. Keep educating the folks. I've gotta go drink a beer with the lady of the house! 🙂

The looming Government Shutdown...Who's fault is it? Unfortunately, it is all of our faults. We the citizens of this AMAZING country voted for the people in Washington whether Democrat or Republican to represent our interests. When the individuals we have elected cannot come together and resolve the issues that directly effect the people in this country then we have the responsibility to make sure they do not have another opportunity to represent us! Instead of fighting amongst ourselves we should ensure that every elected official currently in office does not get sent back to Washington. Lets stand together and VOTE THEM OUT!!! Instead of the politicians' "standing their ground" its time for us to join together and stand our ground!! How do we make them listen; stop voting for them. When they realize that votes are in jeopardy then and only then will they listen to us!!! VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!!!

In 2010 they were telling us jobs jobs job jobs jobs

But in the back rooms they were plotting shutdowns shutdowns shutdowns

    The republican voters got duped.

The TEA party may think they want lower taxes but at a billion plus a day for a shutdown, taxes will have to go up to pay for it. Really good job brownies. NOT.

What does the ObamaCare have to do with the shutdown. I thought the whole point wad to balance the budget. How did these subjects get sandwiches together .. I feel like a young kid who lost trust on a patent they tell us to watch what we spend and they ened up reading books instead what lesson are we teaching our children would like to ask the president that .

This is by far the lowest point in the history of the U.S. government in my lifetime.

Satisfied republicans? This is a new low even for bigots like you.

I can't keep my eyes open, RS. I'd stay to help out, but I see GI Joe and Women In California have both popped in. Keep them on their toes. And for God's sake, stop the lies.

What do they care they will still get paid while others go without. It's time for our member of congress to grow up and make intelligent decisions.

I am upset that the American people will continue to allow this kind of thing. In all actuality, every single member of congress that has put a stop to this should be voted out of office. I personally feel that WE THE PEOPLE should be able to call the shots on how they are paid, since they are suppose to work for us. What will happen is no matter what happens with this shutdown, the voters will still be blinded when it comes time to hit the polls. Why should they get paid for not doing their job? Really, America, it is time to wake up. Vote them all out in the next election...

"House Republicans decided they would not attempt to pass any more bills late Monday to fund the government, setting in motion the first shutdown of federal agencies since 1996, according to two senior GOP advisers. The shutdown will begin early Tuesday."
The GOP has done it. The shut down will happen at midnight.

Yes, even in this dark moment in our nation's history, the GOP's idiocy proves to be ironic and well, funny.

I just love how they are thinking about a person like myself, 80% disabled veteran that is trying to become a first time home buyer. Perfect timing! To the members that are standing in the corner with their arms crossed, sourpuss look on their face and stomping their foot....please do myself and others a favor and come to some intelligent decision.

Why doesn't Boehner just decide to be a hero and allow the Senate version up for a vote in the House anyway? Might end his career but he would go down in history as the guy who saved our economy from disaster and stood up to extremists.

Tea baggers promised they would shut down the government if elected. I did not know that Boehner was a bagger too.
