Government shutdown forces clinical trial patients to wait

(CNN) - Michelle Langbehn, 30, has endured nine months of chemotherapy, two cycles of radiation, a spinal fusion and several tumor removal surgeries. But the cancer that's attacking her body continues to spread, and her future treatment options are limited.

There was hope for the Auburn, California, mom - a clinical trial that's testing a new drug called Cabozantinib that's been approved to fight other cancers. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health had gathered Langbehn's medical records; they were set to evaluate her status on Monday to make an official enrollment decision, she says.

Hey, but conservatives are telling me that the shutdown isn't having any impact! Perhaps they're not being entirely truthful?

Apparently the government "slim-down" is more damaging than expected?

It is a very sad day when you see stories like this. But the people in the House don't care. These are real people lives they are playing with. GOD forbid something happened to a friend or a family member of them this affects in a life and death manner. Will that open your eyes to the harm you are doing.

Boehner, are you even paying attention? Does your TGOP even care? The House has the bipartisan votes NOW to stop this unnecessary shutdown of vital services.

So infuriated at the tea party mess! Shameful behavior out in 2014...

  12. Obama and Democrats LIED, your Healthcare System DIED

If anything that Obama, Reid and Pelosi had turned out to be true, the country wouldn't be in this mess. Instead they lied threw their teeth and continue to do so. It is THEY that have shut down the government in order to protect even two small parts of Obamacare, one a special carve out for Congress. They jammed it down our throats in 2010 and here we are again three years with their foot in the mouths of Americans that have made it very clear they do not want this train wreck forced on them.

The people in here like to talk about elections. Well, Obama and his IRS kept the TEA PArty sidelined in two election cycles in order to steal the elections. Their endless lies and personal attacks meant to distraction from their 4 years of failure. Too many stupid Americans out there fell victim to their poison. 2014 will see the re-imergence of the TEA Party and with a renewed spirit to make the leftists pay for their lies and treachery.

IF Obama & Biden can keep it (the gov't) shut down till after January 1st, when some other things "kicks in" – the Voters in this country will finally see that the ACA is going to end up being a good thing, instead of what the GOP is saying, "a Train Wreck". . . . . . . Cruz is for the elite & the rich – & he's not going to tell the story any differently.

What a beautiful young woman and her precious child. Yet, Teapublicans want to "piecemeal" their way to
a victory of what? They will choose which programs to fund, and which to let swing in the wind. Heard the
RNA will "fund" the WWII memorial until it re-opens. I'm far from impressed. Instead of playing political games,
they should tell their politicians to get off their millioniare butts and get to work.
And, yes, after Boehner, Cruz & Co should be re-called.

Not only does shutdown interrupt the clinical trials research, it interrupts plenty of other time critical, medical and biological research. Some experiments take days, weeks, or months to complete; i.e.; it may take day or weeks for a bioreactor to finish its' processing time.

It's not like you can put the thing on indefinite hold. Try doing that the next time you bake a cake. If the phone rings, pull the cake out of the oven, turn it off, and then answer the phone. When you hang up, turn the oven back on, and then put the cake back into the oven. See what you get.

To all that voted republican in the last election. You're responsible for this mess. You can not seem to understand that the economy works, when people work. Also, where's all the righteous indignation when it comes to military spending, that's out of control. None of you seem to see the money being burned here, do you?
