Immigration reform: House Democrats try to jump start stalled debate

(CNN) - Even as Capitol Hill remained consumed by the government shutdown, House Democrats hoping to jump start the stalled debate over immigration reform put a new proposal on the table Wednesday.

"The American people have spoken," said Rep. Joe Garcia, D-Florida. "They want Congress to take on this issue."

How about getting this one right not like the Obamacare bill you shoved down our throats.

Go home and come in the front door like they have in the past.

Today is just like Monday. The United Stated government no longer needs the services of 800, 000 people. What do you think the private sector does when any company lays off ( furlough ) it's employees. Go on unemployment? They were on unemployment's they just had to do something for it.

Maybe the Democrats should demand immigration reform be passed as a condition of reopening the government. Silliness can be a two-way street.

Oh yeah..before I go, somewhat related to this article. I hear tell more U.S. citizens are applying for visas, and after they leave this country, they simply let it expire..they do not want to come back. They want to keep what they worked so hard for.

The Senate should add gun control, immigration reform and an infrastructure stimulus to their bill and send it over to the House and see how they scream. The Democrats have sent over CLEAN bills with no added requirements. This is too important to waste time. The Republicans are trying to pass some of the heart breaking parts of the government like the cancer research just to get some praise for it. They are the ones that caused everything to be taken away in the first place. Don't they realize every sensible person knows that? .

  10. What's in that tea anyway?

There ya go Dems....let's bring this to the table. The American want immigration reform. I guarantee you more Americans what this reform than the number of Americans that do not want other Americans to get health insurance. The GOP/Tea Trolls are fighting so that people DO NOT get health insurance...really? You have to have a lot of hateful followers that you support you taking away the opportunity to get health care from fellow americans. Its ridiculous. We spent a trillion dollars (probably more in the long run) in making Iraq a democracy, which by the way we failed to do, but if we spend 1/10 of that on our own citizens this goes away.....I say full speed ahead with Obamacare...the hedes with the Tea Trolls.

does the slow process of making a sound decision reguarding this matter have anything to do with gravity or age or just not intuitive enough to put a sound individual in place to make a decision sometimes the thought process can be overloaded NOT GOOD

Are you kidding me, they want to start talking about immigration when the govt is shutdown. How bloody moronic is that. I really have 0% confidence in either party. Our govt needs to pull their heads out and start thinking about the American citizens, this is no time to be concerned about coddling the illegals and trying to help them. Bottom line, illegal then you should be deported.

Lets see now. We have already messed things up with socialized health. Lets make things better by shoving down amnesty. Then we can act surprised when the debt limit isn't raised.

The American people want the government up and running first. Leave it to the Democrats to try and BS more garbage thru instead of fixing the mess they've caused. They were more willing to shut down the government than reconsider their poorly written law! Now they're gonna try and open the gate for illegals! Will they ever learn to responsibly run our government!

The very fabric of what our country has stood for since 1776 has now become a playtoy to the Republicans and their Tea Party masters. Do we really need another REVOLUTION to keep these people in check; or do we vote them out in 2014?

    "The American people have spoken,”
Rep. Garcia is truly delusional. I and a lot of other US citizens say deport
    A. Country is broke and the government is shut down
    B. Where do they propose to get funding for any of the amnesty programs?
    C. They can't even get an accurate count of the criminal immigrants that have already infiltrated the country. They say 15 million, real number is double.
D, thanks for stabbing all of the people that are trying to get in the country legally.
America, do yourselves a favor... Vote Garcia OUT.

Glad to see that some congresspeople realize that since they are getting paid they can continue to work on other issues.
