Washington (CNN) - The U.S. is well into the ninth day of a government shutdown. House Republicans tied defunding or delaying Obamacare to the funding of the government, effectively leading to the shutdown.
But Republicans are saying ā and it seems to have some resonance ā that President Obama's message is: "Iām not negotiating." That's just not how this works. Republicans point out there have been previous negotiations over both opening the government and the debt ceiling.
Is the Democratic Party doing anything to acknowledge the reality of where the U.S. is, and trying to figure out a way to get out of it together?
"There are conversations under way as to what we will discuss, you know, what we will negotiate over, what things will be on the table. But what we said is ā open the government, pay our bills and let's have this honest conversation," said Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, of Illinois, who serves as Senate Majority Whip.

"We are discussing what we are going to discuss . . . what we are going to negotiate"? Are they sewrious? This is the kind of TOKEN victory that the Tea Party need tro get us past this nonsense? OK Dems, tell them ASNYTHIONG and then go back to a hard nose stance.
Go home Durbin!
Democrats stand your ground. It will set a bad precident for the President and team to negotiate with hostage takers who had clearly lost when the majority of American spoke last election November, 2012. When they the republicans are willing to end the hostage crisis then it will be time to negotiate. It is just a pity the orchestrators i.e. Ted Cruz and company will not be thrown in jail.
At this point, the republicans could give into all demands put forth by any party or person. I'd still be reluctant to vote for any of them because of the way they have conducted themselves over the past 5 years. But some of us have memories that are vivid and clear, while some possess only the want and need for their thinking to be done for them by someone on AM hate, or FAUX NEWS.
We can only hope the Housr Reoublicans walk away with ashes in their mouths.
Anything ejse will just encourage them.
These comments from Dick Dirbun just go to show the democrats aren't interested in fixing the spending problems! Our country is broke that is the fact. His admiting that we are gonna be back having these conversations again means our government is failing at its job!
Bye Bye Boehner !
Hello Eric
