Washington (CNN) - House Republican leaders said Thursday they will propose a temporary increase in the nation's borrowing limit - a first step toward a potential compromise to end the political stalemate that has shut down parts of the government and threatens a U.S. default as soon as next week.
After meeting with his caucus, House Speaker John Boehner said Republicans want substantive talks with President Barack Obama and Democrats on reducing the nation's chronic federal deficits and debt in return for removing the immediate threat of default.

The House GOP/Teatrolls changed the House Rules on September 30, 2013 in order to guarantee a gov't shutdown and prevent anyone from stopping it. It's not even remotely debatable any more CNN...the false equivalence charade is over.
Well, he told us didn't he? How much longer are we (American voters) going to keep tolerating these "freebies" from a band of lunatics hell bent on destroying one man?
Rest assured that however it turns out that the Republicans will take the credit for saving the galaxy. They always do.
What's this that I'm hearing about the Republicans changing the rules for the 113th Congress after they were set? That's like changing the playing rules halfway through the 2nd quarter of a football game.
I do not think that it really make much sense that you jump over the river today, while you are 100% sure that river will carry you as far as it can, so long as it continues to run on!
Setting aside the rule-change by House leadership that everyone except CNN is talking about (Valley Girl accent: "HellOOO, like, HINT!"), I still don't understand precisely what Boehner is proposing, beyond some vague talk about lifting the debt ceiling WITHOUT fully funding the government. I need more details.
Sniffit, I think you missed your calling.
Thank you for keeping it real and getting it out there.
"Rest assured that however it turns out that the Republicans will take the credit for saving the galaxy."
Haha...but of course...they're the only ones with a clown mothership that can move at ludicrous speed!
"It's not even remotely debatable any more CNN...the false equivalence charade is over."
Yeah. Boehner's been also crawling all over the House floor too looking for his crying towel.
"What's this that I'm hearing about the Republicans changing the rules for the 113th Congress after they were set? That's like changing the playing rules halfway through the 2nd quarter of a football game."
Yep...they changed the rules just for the continuing resolution so that, instead of ANY member being able to bring what is called a "privileged" motion that would force the House to vote on the Senate bill (which is the rule for everything else), only the Speaker or "his designee" could do so. It's a massive power grab, was done so that the GOP/Teatrolls could prevent the "clean" CR from coming to a vote (because they knew it would pass) and the only valid interpretation of it is that they changed the rules in order to give themselves the ability to force the gov't to shutdown.
Anybody hooked up with a GOP teaparty label will get trashed in the GOP train wreck in 2014
We've been kicking the can down the road for years. This sounds like a shorter kick.
Really GOPpers? You want to do this again, that soon. You people are trying to commit political suicide.
How about you stop playing games and doing your jobs.

Let's get specific. We've been kicking the can down the road ever since second year of the George W. Bush administration. Most economists at the time had agreed that without the Bush Tax Cuts, the national debt would be erased before the end of the decade, the year 2010.
Most conservatives like to point out the economic growth that occurred following the tax cuts being enacted. However, they seem to forget that the Bush administration had increased spending an average of 7-9% per year, every year that Bush was in office.
Sniffit, Data, the real Tom Paine and Rudy, Ole Yeller and GOP......

Du to the health care reform act millions of children will wake up xmas morning without toys and present and parents with out enough hours to buy them presents that is what the republicans are seeing i see it already itll just get worse we are financialy screwed as a country and we will see default in our life times with out a good structured stick to it budget we will fall just like all the other civilizations that got to big for their britches

How come Donald Trump has been so quiet on the subject? Last time I heard anything from or about him someone had asked him if felt that Ted Cruz was an American, eligible to be POTUS.
