Bipartisan group of senators helped pave the way for a Senate deal

Washington (CNN) - Congressional approval ratings hovered at historic lows. Republican and Democrats hurled insults at each other and among themselves. The political circus in Washington even made its way to "Saturday Night Live: - in a sketch featuring Miley Cyrus, at that.

It seemed that nothing would break through the partisan stronghold that left Capitol Hill at a standstill in the weeks leading up to and during the partial government shutdown.

If the United States Congress is looking at cuts, they should take pay cuts. Their jobs should top out at $100,000.00 and live like hard working (+40 hours per week) middle class people do.

I'm not letting up on this one......Here are some facts, Boehner yelling on TV jobs, jobs, jobs, three years later NO jobs bills. Last week Boehner yelling on TV, "this is not a game". Today after giving in he says, "we fought a good fight, we just didn't win". This "game" cost 24 billion dollars. None of this was necessary. How can any of you Obama haters justify any of this?

Rep.John Boenhom and his supporters should be charged with treason ,black mail ,violations of the Constitution and oath of office and domestic terrorism. This whole thing is about who has the power and if I am not mistaken the Constitution opens with We the people for a reason. No matter what side of this argument over Obama Care I will ask you this Did anyone ask the people if they wanted to shutdown the government? Crimes committed in the people's name put these fools behind bars before its too late

Every member of the Republican party needs to be voted out of office.

  9. Thank You

What would have happened if this group didn't start working together to provide a basis for the final legislation to prevent a US default? They deserve a lot of credit. I've been critical of McCain since his presidential election campaign but kudoes to him for joining this bipartisan group, for his pronouncements that attacking the Affordable Care Act should not be part of debt limit negotiations and for his plan to continue participation with this group on future important issues. And kudoes to the other 13 senators for working in a bipartisan manner, this is what the country needs more of on Capitol Hill to resolve our many pressing issues.

Seriously, all of the constituents in the Tea Party gerrymandered districts should vote Democratic just this once in 2014. This will effectively remove these clowns from office and show them and their masters that We the People are the bosses, not them. You can always go back to voting GOP in the next election after that. It's just that the Tea Party needs to be taught a lesson for messing with our economy. At the very least they need to understand that they work for their constituents and not special interests. LOL Lucky for the GOP/Tea Party that the elders who support them will be getting their social security checks on time. These "entitlements" are due for the people who have worked for decades. Also, it would not kill the GOP to stop calling them entitlements. Again, these people worked for this money and, yeah, they are entitled to it.

  11. Mr. willioski!

The tea party is a group of anti-black president supporters! They don't support obama because he is black point black end of discussion!

  12. Mr. willioski!

Congress needs to put a law in effect that blocks future congress men and/or women from being able to stop the entire country from progressing! There has to be some kind of legislation that can be put into effect to criminally prosecute people who deliberately would hurt the country just for the sake of their own personal views! When a person holds a public office, they have a responsibility to put personal interest aside for the betterment of the entire nation! If this is what future American politics will be like then this country is headed for a crash landing! What a shame.....and all for the sake of denying a minority the chance to straighten out all of the mess so-called "educated America" got us into!

The real joke is on the American people. What we have here are a group of stupidity taking ownership of the government, with only one thing in mind , how fast and how soon can I fill my pockets and bank accounts with the American taxpayers money. They are thanking God ( or whom ever they believe in) for not having term limits. Well as far as the ACA goes, give it time and it will self destruct. It is on it way! The election in 2014 will be very interesting, for we don't need to blame the tea partiers, Republicans or Democrats for they are all GUILTY of the ineffective government!

Bipartisan is a lie. Tell the truth.......Only the GOP in name only, voted to give in to Obama. There are some in the Senate that have principles......not many.......but some.

    @DENNA,

"Seriously, all of the constituents in the Tea Party gerrymandered districts should vote Democratic just this once in 2014."

Won't happen, unfortunately. I spent some time lurking on Red State after work to get the lay of the conservative land, and they're all 100% behind Cruz. The base is doubling down on rebellion. In a way, they're winning: with crisis every 3 or so months, the United States will effectively be broken until Mr. Obama leaves office, and there's not much we can do about it.

GOPhers will not get the Senate, but they'll hang on to the House. It's just too hard - and they made sure it would stay that way. The entire country would have to finally recognize that these nihilists are the enemy of our country, but the media keeps painting this as a "both-sides" issue.

Data Dave: I hear you. It would be nice if the GOP got a good scare, but it isn't going to happen. I actually tend to be more conservative than liberal on some issues, but the Tea Party has made the GOP so repulsive that I cannot , in good conscience, vote for a Republican. I do think that if Cruz runs for president and Hillary runs, Cruz will be toast. I also think that the GOP needs to weed out the Tea Party and make them become a third party group. Poor John Boehner has been not much more than a paper tiger because of the Tea Party. I am glad that the TP's attached themselves to the GOP and not the Democrats.
