Stenographer snaps, rants on House floor

Updated: 2:06 p.m. ET, 10/17/2013

Washington (CNN) – Amid all the chaos of the last-minute deal in Washington, there was an unusual moment on the House floor moments after the bill passed.

A House stenographer and well-known employee calmly took to a microphone and began screaming.

[twitter-follow screen_name='politicalticker']
"Do not be deceived. God shall not be mocked. A House divided cannot stand," she said, according to a House GOP aide. After a few seconds, she was escorted out by the Sergeant-at-Arms, but an audio recording by Todd Zwillich of Public Radio International captured the rest of her rant.

"He will not be mocked, He will not be mocked, (don't touch me) He will not be mocked. The greatest deception here, is that this is not one nation under God. It never was. Had it been... it would not have been... No. it would not have been... the Constitution would not have been written by Free Masons... and go against God. You cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve two masters. Praise be to God, Lord Jesus Christ."

House members and aides were surprised and unsettled by the scene.

"I don't know, she just snapped," said a GOP aide.

CNN's Dana Bash spoke with several staffers who knew the woman well.

"She’s a well-known person, she’s a perfectly nice person, a good colleague, somebody who’s respectable and dependable, and this is very surprising to everybody who works with her," Bash reported on air.

"The Sergeant in Arms didn’t try to stop her because she works there and that’s where she’s situated," Rep. Peter King, R-New York, told Jake Tapper. "And she actually went up behind the podium where the president speaks from. They thought she was going to hand something to the speaker, and then they realized."

Officer Shennell S. Antrobus of Capitol Police told CNN she wasn’t arrested or charged and was transported to a local area hospital by DC Fire for further evaluation.

In terms of an ongoing investigation or further action about the stenographer, Antrobus said no such action will be taken.

"There is nothing more, from our end, that we are going to do," Antrobus said.

–CNN’s Deirdre Walsh, Steve Brusk, Dan Merica and Conor Finnegan contributed to this report.

We're not becoming a "radicalized theocracy" because Christians aren't blowing stuff up. Christians take more crap because of their beliefs than any other religion on the planet. The few Christians who do things like this are the MINORITY in the faith. If you don't believe in it, great. That's your choice. But get over this crap about putting them down, saying there is no Christ, calling the Bible a "fictional storybook." You don't have to believe it, but the majority of the population wouldn't say those things about Islam. Or any other religion. If you don't agree with it, so what. Let them be, let them choose how they want to worship and you choose your way. Be as respectful of Christians as you are of Muslims, who by the way are the ones actually blowing things up.

Jesus forgives those free masons for setting value to the people that they should have their rights protected from the affluent and predatory, and of course all that mockery that is really just hypocrisy and ego. Now Christ the Messiah may be just a bit less forgoing when it comes to the things that people are doing, if you were to consider what that spirit would actually embody. As far as the devil being in the details. He will be if they put him there and if their gonna accept him into their lifes then its a good thing that they don't believe in God. They don't really need the dogma complicating the prospects for their short, uneffectual lives, we know because all current religious doctrine is false and nothing more than works of self-deceit and yet God is completely unaffected by any of it. I guess thats what it means to Almighty.

I saw it when it happened. She is deeply disturbed, depressed, and mentally unstable. Why, this could happen to anyone who believes in God and is witnessing the downfall of our country. Maybe the Anti-Christ is in in our own political arena. In my opinion he has a lot of followers headset on changes for the worse on both sides of the aisle. America is at war domestic and abroad. Poor lady is probably so confused because she has a front row seat in the circus we have all been watching.

She may be for somebody, but I only know one thing, her actions were at aunction of the Holy Spirit. The end is near. Repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior. The best feeling is when you have no fear of death which was swallowd up in victory openly by Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. The First Born amongst the Living & the dead. The greatest Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Jesus came as the Light but the people chose darkness. Folks wrote darkness, hate, bigotry in their hearts in the name of politics. But the written God, s laws in their hearts should be love, kindness, gentleness, faith in God etc. They allowed the dragon to be their gods in a daunting pursuit of wealth & power. Some of the bigots wrote those generational dragon codes in the minds & hearts of their children, s children. Now, the Big Tree of calamity is growing in America. That tree of evil, plot, us & againast them, I am lighter in complexion but you are dark, ignorance, factions & divisions. God, s

Ignorance will set you free... free from knowing what you are talking about when you rant in public. "Under God" and "In God We Trust" weren't added to money or the pledge of allegiance until 1955 when the nation was influenced by the "red scare." So yes, our country was founded not as a God fearing nation, but as a nation that feared institutionalizing religion.

Another psychotic religious fanatic? Say it ain't so! BTW, someone needs to clue this woman in. The ONLY "master" Congress is supposed to be serving is the American People. Fictional storybook characters don't even enter into it, yet she claims they're in charge! Yikes. No wonder Congress can't get anything done!

Jhonny, Jhonny, save the rant about the evils of theology. Let me "clue you in", since you make no sense. She is not an elected member of either House. She is a stenographer, part of the clerical staff. She does not make policy. So her religious belief will not infringe upon you. Find another shadow to fight your self righteous battle against, this lady is not the right one. "Yikes!"

She is right though. A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. From our stand point she looks crazy, but bibically, this is what radical Christianity does. Whether she was encouraged by God or by some other influence I cannot say, but what she did say was correct. Jeremiah the prophet used to make these types of visits in his day and no one liked him for it. The king in his day threw him in jail because he couldn't stand hearing the gloom and doom that he was preaching. Actually, it was a message of salvation by God that he was giving the king and the people by not resisting the king of Babylon but to peacefully submit themselves under his rule and no one would to die. It wasn't to long after that that Babylon came in and wiped out Jerusalem he killed all the sons of the king and carried off a few including the king. The king was jailed and the prophet was honoured. America won't listen either. We think that because we live in an "enlightened" age that we are exempt. Every great super power that ever was on this earth all thought that they were in an enlightened age in their day. The very thing that we fought for is going to destroy us., our Freedom.

if the house truly reps the people then we are doomed. A bunch of hyper-religious loonies are trying to dictate policy without even understanding the science behind it

This lady knows what she is talking about. God is real and there is a very spiritual war going on right now and people ARE being deceived. Just as the Bible warns us not to be. People need to wake up and see what is really going on in this world.

Poor crazy woman. Those who know their history know that this country was not founded as a Christian country. The Treaty of Tripoli of 1796 which was signed by John Adams, states : "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..."

Well I guess there couldn't have been a more eloquent method to show the honorable representatives that their actions especially during the past 2-3 weeks have an enormous impact on lives and livelihoods well beyond their few vocal constituents and valued financial supporters. They won't take responsibility and some would deny any for her snapping, but it was her daily life and had a significant impact on her well being.

This lady is quoting the Bible.
Galatians 6:7 says, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked."
Mark 3:25 says, "If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand."
Matthew 6:24 says, "No one can serve two masters."
One more: Psalm 26:12 – "My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the Lord."

  22. Warning

    To the House of Reps:

Never, ever, ever piss off a woman! And I mean NEVER! Believe me when I tell you, you don't want to go there. You will never hear the end of it.

As for the Capitol police, this is their 2nd screw up in a month. First they shoot and kill and unarmed frightened mother with her baby in the car, who she was trying to protect. And about the part where she was talking about Obama spying on her, she was talking about the NSA you idiots!

Then they hall the totally pissed off House stenographer to a mental ward. You shot at the wrong person, and you took the wrong person to the pscyh ward. Now, if you had taken the GOP I would be in total agreement with you, that would be understandable. This lady is inocent and was speaking her mind which is covered by a little ole thing called the Bill of Rights. You know you don't have to read that far down on the list, it's No. 1!

With all due respect to the lady and her expressed beliefs, if this was a sudden deviation from her usual behavior it is prudent and even imperative that a CAT scan of her brain be done.
Changes in behavior can signal a brain tumor and are often subtle until someone 'explodes'.
Just an old Neuro Nurse's professional opinion.
