Stenographer snaps, rants on House floor

Updated: 2:06 p.m. ET, 10/17/2013

Washington (CNN) – Amid all the chaos of the last-minute deal in Washington, there was an unusual moment on the House floor moments after the bill passed.

A House stenographer and well-known employee calmly took to a microphone and began screaming.

"Do not be deceived. God shall not be mocked. A House divided cannot stand," she said, according to a House GOP aide. After a few seconds, she was escorted out by the Sergeant-at-Arms, but an audio recording by Todd Zwillich of Public Radio International captured the rest of her rant.

"He will not be mocked, He will not be mocked, (don't touch me) He will not be mocked. The greatest deception here, is that this is not one nation under God. It never was. Had it been... it would not have been... No. it would not have been... the Constitution would not have been written by Free Masons... and go against God. You cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve two masters. Praise be to God, Lord Jesus Christ."

House members and aides were surprised and unsettled by the scene.

"I don't know, she just snapped," said a GOP aide.

CNN's Dana Bash spoke with several staffers who knew the woman well.

"She’s a well-known person, she’s a perfectly nice person, a good colleague, somebody who’s respectable and dependable, and this is very surprising to everybody who works with her," Bash reported on air.

"The Sergeant in Arms didn’t try to stop her because she works there and that’s where she’s situated," Rep. Peter King, R-New York, told Jake Tapper. "And she actually went up behind the podium where the president speaks from. They thought she was going to hand something to the speaker, and then they realized."

Officer Shennell S. Antrobus of Capitol Police told CNN she wasn’t arrested or charged and was transported to a local area hospital by DC Fire for further evaluation.

In terms of an ongoing investigation or further action about the stenographer, Antrobus said no such action will be taken.

"There is nothing more, from our end, that we are going to do," Antrobus said.

–CNN’s Deirdre Walsh, Steve Brusk, Dan Merica and Conor Finnegan contributed to this report.

She is speaking truth from the Bible. Matthew 26:4, "You cannot serve two masters" refers to serving both God and money. You cannot do both. Speaking to leaders of government, she is calling them out. The US government may think they have control, but God is God. He knows all and sees all. He appoints leaders and brings them down at appointed times. He is letting our government know that He knows they are saying one thing and doing another. She is a modern day prophet, speaking about words of wisdom. God is speaking through her. It happened in the Bible and since God is alive in the hearts of those who believe in Him, He can say/do whatever He wants through us at any time. She is not "snapping." She is speaking truth at a time that she had the appropriate audience. Those listening should truly be LISTENING to her message. It's a call to repentance, people.

It's about time someone in Washington told the truth!! She is right, you cannot serve two masters. When you take God out of everything, you get what we have today which is war, famine, disease, homosexuals, legalized drugs, school shootings, terrorism, etc... Wake up people and trust in Jesus!! Can't you see the signs? Figures, once someone starts talking about God they are said to "snap" and taken to a hospital.... because they must be crazy right?? Surely a sane person can't think like that for themselves.

Our country can't work together and she stated that. Now we have jerks calling her a wacko and making this about hating the GOP. Listen, both parties royally are ruining this country and those idiots who think this is a GOP issue you are just lying to yourself and no one can help you.

Bummer. I was hoping the rant was about how terrible Congress is and how they need to get their collective you-know-what together.

There is only ONE truth and when it is spoken, the darkened minds reject it.

Our country is in a down spiral because our so called "leaders" cannot come to an agreement due to greed, selfishness and ignorance of the truth.

I have no idea what the woman was trying to say, but there is only one political movement in this country that likes to wrap itself around the The Holy Bible.

Interesting, I would not call her a fanatic, but quote her quoting viable verses for those who are followers of the Ressurected Christ, not Christians.

For those given the wisdom to know the secret mysteries, must admit the worlds and the corporation of the US is resembling prophetic scripture somewhat.

Baruch Hashem to those Jews who know doctrine, and are not moved by anything, for folly has taken s seat on high platforms, and men have become lovers of self and temporal things.

True victory is being an example, no matter which faith based concept, if it is one that precepts and values are based in love and compassion.

So to any of you who call yourselves a true follower of Christ, you should celebrate this woman as she indeed cast her pearls among a bunch of greedy, arrogant and selfish swine.....

This woman was merely trying to make a point that the only difference between republicans and democrats is their level of Freemason degree. Kind of silly to call it a two party system, when only one group rules.

@Craig, while I think this woman probably had a nervous breakdown, you might want to check the whole "Seperation of Church and State." this is not a law, it was an expression made by Thomas Jefferson. While the first amendment states no established state religion, it does not prohibit religious practice, anywhere.

    "In god we trust"

In other words, we give lip service to logic but what we're REALLY into is superstition!

  20. Truth

The Truth was TOLD and a large majority of Americans (Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Tea Party, Far Left, Far Right) CANNOT Handle The Truth about Anything Either Side Says or Does as WE/THEY are BLIND to the TRUTH of ANYTHING because NO ONE WANTS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEMSELVES AND BLAME OTHERS BE THEY (RELIGIOUS/NON RELIGIOUS). STOP ACCEPTING ANYTHING ANYONE SAYS AND LOOK INTO YOURSELVES FOR THE ANSWERS (NO ONE WILL TELL YOU THE TRUTH); YOU MUST FIND IT FOR YOURSELVES.

@Aaronguitar What's wrong with believing in fairytails? People are built to acknoledge a higher force. That's a part of human psychology and it will stay that way until we find a "god" or we evolve beyond the need to believe. Do you think that getting online and wasting time godbashing is anyless pathetic then being religious.

To God be the Glory!! What this lady did was standing up for what she believes in. The only one who can help our country or any other issues. You take God out of the Picture and this is what happens in our country, world, etc. Praise Jesus!!!

While I'd agree the House is highly dysfunctional and this country is on a high-speed train away from God, this HR 638 was passed in 2011 as an attempt for Republicans to maintain some degree of power over what has been a democrat controlled congress/presidency. Not saying I agree with that being ok it's just the facts
