Polls: Early reviews for HealthCare.gov aren't pretty

Washington (CNN) - Only a minority of Americans are giving a thumbs up to the rollout of the Obamacare health care exchanges, according to a trio of new national polls.

Just 12% of people questioned in a CBS News poll released Tuesday say they think the process is going well, with nearly half saying it's not going well and nearly four in 10 saying they can't evaluate the signup process at HealthCare.gov.

The state level online exchanges, which opened for business on October 1, are intended to allow those without insurance to sign up for health care, and are a crucial part of the Affordable Care Act.

Less than three-in-10 surveyed in a Pew Research Center poll released on Monday say the online exchanges are working very well, with 46% saying they are not.

Besides the expected partisan divide, the poll also indicates a racial gap. Just 24% of white respondents,  but 51% of black respondents say the exchanges are working well.

And the survey points to generational and income divides.

"Young people and those with annual household incomes of less than $30,000 are divided in their evaluations of the exchanges, while the assessments of older and more affluent Americans are more negative," says a release from Pew Research.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll suggests that  major problems with the health care law's website may just be an appetizer.

Fifty-six percent of those questioned in the survey, which was released Monday, say the website failures are a sign of broader problems to come, with four in 10 saying they are an isolated incident.

More than eight in 10 Republicans see the website failures as part of a larger problem with the measure, while most Democrats describe it as an isolated incident.

President angry with rollout

The health care law, passed along party lines in 2010 when the Democrats controlled the Senate and the House, is considered President Barack Obama's signature domestic achievement.

And the President vented Monday about the website rollout.

"Nobody's madder than me about the website not working as well as it should, which means it's going to get fixed," Obama said during an appearance the White House Rose Garden.

But he didn't specify exactly what went wrong or who was to blame for the problems, which include long waits to log onto the federally administered website and maddeningly long wait times once online.

There's "no excuse for the problems," Obama added.

But he said tech industry experts were being brought in to help workers trying to fix the site.

The technical fiasco is fueling the GOP push to dismantle or defund Obamacare, and some Republicans are calling for the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

In early September, barely half (51%) knew that exchanges were going to be available in their state; that has risen to nearly two-thirds (65%) today.

Website failures not affecting support for Obamacare

According to the ABC News/Washington Post poll, 46% of Americans support the law, edging up four points from last month. Forty-nine percent say they oppose the measure, down three points from September.

Forty-three percent of those questioned in the CBS News survey give Obamacare a thumbs up, a four point increase since September, with 51% saying they oppose the law, unchanged from last month.

The 42%-53% approval/disapproval rating for the measure in the Pew poll is basically unchanged from September.

A CNN/ORC International poll released Monday indicates that 41% say they favor the law, with 56% opposed to it. The 41% approval was up three points from last month, with the disapproval basically unchanged.

The CNN survey also indicates that 38% say they are against the law because they think it's too liberal, while 12% say it's not liberal enough. That means 53% either support Obamacare, or say it's not liberal enough.

The Pew survey suggests more Americans are becoming familiar with the exchanges. The percentage of people who know that the exchanges are available in their state rose from 51% early last month to nearly two thirds now.

    Here's a plan:

Ticker, why don't you run articles that tell people how they can get access to the insurance plans other than using the
web site. Like the telephone, or hospitals, or all of those things the President listed.
    Something like your "Fact/Fiction articles".
This would be more helpful than the "what's wrong with Obamacare" articles-ad nauseum
    Something to think about.

If a company like Amazon screwed up a product roll out to this extent they would go out of business, all of the employees would lose their jobs and all of the investors would lose all of their money.

With Obamacare, the same clowns who rolled out this fiasco will be the same clowns who will be running the program. No one will dismissed for incompetence. There will be no consequences for poor performance. Just another government program.

Its funny when Republicans try to say all the polls are skewed by liberals until it bends in their favor. Double standards, a powerful GOP tool.

    ---------------
I don't understand why the right wing is so upset about the deficits and the debt limit. Cheney told us "deficits don't matter." And Bush apologized to the country for erasing the surplus and creating a deficit when the Republican-controlled Congress passed the first round of his tax cuts.

They've also forgotten about the $152 billion Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 that Bush signed in February 2008, which the Republicans eagerly approved because it also included more tax cuts.

The only ones surprised by this mess is CNN and the rest of the MSM who all championed Obama's takeover of healthcare. The name Obamacare is now hanging around the Democrats neck like a dead and stinking albatross.

LOL. No they wouldn't. It happens all the time. I've mentioned it before, but look at billion dollar intellectual properties like World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 and other similar properties that had horrifying launch days/weeks (including when they launch expansions too) and had to scramble to fix login issues, account creation problems, etc. etc. They fix them eventually and become ridiculously successful and profitable. One might even draw out the analogy a little further and point out that when those launch day problems occurred, they were met with the infantile tantrums and childish whining from the less mature, but very noisy amongst the folks intending to use those products...just like right now with the ACA website.

I urge all to check the archives for '05 stories on the roll-out of Medicare Part D. The same words: "glitches, chaos, nightmares." It's a web site. It happens far more often that you realize if you really think this is indicative of the national effort to ensure all Americans. Take a deep breat, naysayers.

I'll bet you, or Mitt Romney, $10,000 that Obamacare will outlast the Republican Party. Shake on it? The head guy over at FreedomWorks has already said that he intends to take over the Republican Party, assimillating it into the GOTP.

I seem to remember recently at a Apple rollout there were technical glitches: were people writing the obituary of Apple the day after? Nope. Does anyone remember Romney's website reading " Amercia"? Romney failures as a candidate were not due to website rollout. Mistakes are made and need to get fixed, so why are people insisting that nowhere else but government do mistakes occur?

Hey... I came back from lunch and saw this reply to a post I did to CA Independent on a string now closed (see below) Notice anything funny? LOL replies to me chastising me about my post, but forgetting to change his moniker back to CA Idependent. Basically showing everyone he is changing his name on his posts to give the appearance of more 'outraged' republicants. He is probably $$$, just sprayin, just askin', etc... What a rube!

    @CA Independent (aka- republicant)
"The process right now is a train wreck,"
Use republicant talking points much... I mean as an 'independent'?
You fellers aren't fooling anyone, and I find it amusing that ya'll want to support the republicant party in all your posts and rail against the Democrats at every turn, but you blatantly attempt to disassociate yourself from your masters.

Yeah, uh.....it seems that your real world experiences are related to computer games. Some day when you put your game controller down and step out of your parent's basement, you will see the difference between a government program that takes control of one-sixth of the GDP of the United States and a video game.

For anyone having trouble creating an account here is a tip. Even though I have coverage through my company, I decided to log into HealthCare.gov just to see what all the complaining was about. I had no problem reaching the sight and navigating. Since a lot of the problem seems to be just creating an account I decided to go ahead and try. This was simple but the final step to creating you account is you must respond to an email to verify it. I did this almost immediately after receiving the email and got some crazy message that I didn't respond fast enough. So I waited about an hour and clicked the link again and wha-la I have an account. So if you experiencing this same problem just try clicking the link in your email periodically until it works. Testing code is what I do.
Since I already have insurance I didn't try to purchase any so you find more problems along the line. juts be patient and it probably will work out.
