HHS to Issa: We’re working on it

(CNN) – The Health and Human Services Department responded Friday to the House Oversight Committee’s threat of a subpoena, saying the department is working to provide the information requested by Chairman Darrell Issa, R-California, on the technical problems with the Obamacare website.

“We have told the Committee repeatedly that we intend to accommodate their interest in better understanding our efforts to implement the ACA,” HHS spokeswoman Joanne Peters said in a statement. “The Committee sent us an extremely broad request for documents on October 10 - while the government was still shut down - and asked that we produce these materials within two weeks.”

“Since the government reopened on October 17, we have been engaged in discussions with the Committee to better understand and prioritize their requests,” Peters added. “We are working to provide information responsive to the Committee’s requests, and look forward to continuing to work cooperatively to satisfy their interest in this matter.”

Committee aides said Thursday that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has failed to respond to a previous request, and Issa is now giving her until Monday to comply or possibly face "compulsory" action.

A separate House panel, the Energy and Commerce Committee, held a congressional hearing on Thursday to question contractors whose companies worked on the website. Sebelius is scheduled to testify at another Energy and Commerce Committee hearing next week.

Has anyone noticed that Issa and Cruz appear to have the same hair stylist/barber – you know, the one used by Joe McCarthy. Boo!! Look out for the commie under your bed guys...

She should just tell him that she is too busy trying to get it fixed then to answer his stupid questions. Or just tell him up front that, no President Obama and the White House did not have anything to to do with problems. We all know where he wants to go with this whole investigation (aka witch hunt).

    @The Real Tom Paine,
So 500,000,000, or whatever it is since the dems won't tell us exactly, on a website is ok. And please, please don't give me the 24 billion diatribe. It's so tiring and so irrelevent.

Please send all the error logs to Rep. Blackburn. No doubt she has the technical expertise to determine what fixes must be made after reviewing the logs. These politicians are a joke. Reading questions prepared by others for which they have no understanding of the subject matter. A waste of tax payers money. Start working on the budget may be that is something you can actually accomplish.

Issa is joke!!!! Some one should bring in the video of the all the GOP representative talking in a hearing back when Bush rolled out Medicare part D and it had its errors. All these same GOP representatives that are complaining now were defending the error of Medicare part D. I wonder what changed their attitudes from knowing new systems have issues to now saying its unacceptable? GOP are all POS.

Lets pull in everyone who can fix this into hearings for a couple months, that way Issa can assure it won't get fixed.
That is the GOP goal anyway.

Warren: One must NEVER tell a megalomaniac Congressman who's only interested in hearing how wonderful they sound/look on TV that you don't have time for them while you're trying to help people literally DYING because they have no Health Insurance.

No, I never claimed that it was ok, and I get really tired of you attributing statements to me that I never make. As for the 24 billion lost to the economy because of the Cruz shutdown, it is entirely relevant because your boys have always claimed to be the party of fiscal responsibility: All I have said recently is that we should focus on getting the website up and running the way it should be. I have already agreed with you that the rollout has been a flop, but its something that can be fixed. That is all that I have been saying, tom: I'm so sick of people making this into a metphor for government when Katrina happened on the last adminstration's watch. No one has died because the rollout has been bad. CNN has not bothered to print any of my comments when I've agreed with you, so please take that into consideration before you extrapolate something from my remarks that is grossly off the mark.

I am so sick of these self righteous politicians that do not have the best interest of the people. This Issa only appears when he wants to charge someone with something! How about getting off the TV or away from a microfone and do work!

So if the dems blew 24 billion you would not think it worth mentioning? You would grind it for all its worth you don't think going on and on about four deaths in benghazi is horseshit, what about the 60 that died during the bush era,, you all say keep blaming bush is not relevant, then what the hell is, he killed 4400 patriots, who were fighting for our and our rights, all for money, you disgust me that you haven't the courage to admit this, yet go on and on about deaths that were in no way the presidents fault, yet silent on bush, or say he was lied to, absolutely wrong, he started a war, do you think he was unaware people die in war, you need to grow up, and grow a pair

    The Real Tom Paine,
Thank you for your thoughtful response. The website will be fixed at some point so I'm not harping on that. I think you can understand the concern from someone like me. Let me clarify that I didn't think the shutdown was a good idea but 24 billion in an economy that is over 14 trillion is nothing to get so worked up about. It's just not that big of a deal other than making for a great talking point from the left. If they are so concerned about the 24 billion, then they should absolutely be concerned about the price of the website. Neither is the cost of the website in terms of making us go broke.

But hopefully you can understand the concerns. Are you willing to concede that there are very real concerns? Let me list some and you tell me if I'm wrong. I'm certainly willing to listen but I think my concerns are valid (what a surprise, right? :))

    1. The site isn't up in Spanish and won't be for weeks or months yet nobody talks about this
    2. There has been zero accountability – this is common for the govt and is a problem with any administration
    3. $500,000,000 for a website is an indication that they don't care about cost and have no concern for efficiency
    4. Sebilus said this was a 5 year project (those are her exact words) – if that's the case, then why did they roll out in 3 for any reason other than politics?
    5. Why are they willing to tell us that 500,000 people have started the process but then they refuse to tell us how many have actually signed up? Are they hiding something?

There are many more but let's start with those. Can you understand how someone like me, who has no faith in the govt to begin with, would look at this and go crazy? It's a website, dude. Not only will it take weeks, if not months, to fix but it's costing us taxpayers a huge amount of money. I appreciate your acknowledgement that the website launch was a disaster and I appreciate even more that you aren't like Sniffit trying to blame repubs. All the govt is about is pointing fingers and blaming the other guy. And both sides are infinitely guilty fo this tactic. Vote Ron Paul! 🙂 I'm anxious to hear your reply (and I hope I get to see it! :))
