More Senate Dems call for Obamacare enrollment extension

(CNN) - A Democratic effort to extend open enrollment for health care insurance beyond March 31 has picked up steam.

The effort, led by New Hampshire’s Jeanne Shaheen, has now been joined by nine other Senators, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein from California, Kay Hagan from North Carolina and Mark Udall from Colorado.

Citing ongoing problems with the federal health care website, the group sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius requesting she extend the enrollment.

  1. Stating the Obvious

    So the Democrats and Obama shut down the federal government for over two weeks because they would not agree to any changes to Obamacare, including a simple delay, and now less than a week later they are saying they now want what they flatly refused to do a week ago.

    Are these people totally insane??? Is it any wonder they produced a web site that was a total disaster. They are total incomptents that haven't a clue about what they are doing and how to do it. For God's sake, wake up America!! The Democrats and Obama are totally incompetent!! The economic results of the last 5 years showed it and now Obamacare proves it.

    On a side note, doesn't a change to a law, as so many of you have pointed out was passed by congress, signed by the President, and upheld by the SCOTUS, have to go through the legislative process?

    how can the government penalize someone for not paying for health insurance who is making $38k a year when some people on Welfare get $40k a year in benefits and free health care...including free housing, utilities,food, daycare,training, phone etc...

    i totally support the president and the ACA but i have to say my experience signing up has been and continues to be a comp. nightmare. iafter comp. my on-line application i hit the "submit" button. A "please wait" icon came on screen. after a few minutes the please wait icon went away but there was no indication my application was successfully submitted so i continued to hit the submit button several more times. still no indication it was submitted. i finally gave up. later i found 15-20 messages in my email saying my application was accepted and i was eligible for coverage. when i went back into the exchange to purchase coverage ia big red note came on screen telling me "only one application per state is allowed" then i realized repeatedly hitting the submit button created an error in the system. now, the worst part is no one has been able to resolve the problem. i have called the cust. service line 7x, been referred to the advanced resolution team 2x and even applied over the phone only to be told since i had already applied on-line there was nothing they could do. i feel totally helpless and completely frustrated by this whole thing. so, i do think they need to extend the deadline or blow up the current web site and start over.

    @Fair,

    "It's not because of one's ability or inability to lobby Washington. It's because without the individual mandate, the law implodes (from a financial standpoint). Pre-existing conditions, parental coverage until age 26 – all the "goodies" cost money. Money that was modelled to come from a bunch of young and healthy entering the pool and subsidizing the older and less healthy. Ooops."

    Well-argued, but industry lobbied for an extension.

    Also: a delay does not equal end-of-mandate. It equals delayed mandate. Hm, perhaps not so well-argued after all.

    Is there anything about this law that Obama didn't lie about? "You can keep your old insurance if you want to, Period." "You will save $2500 a year." "You can keep your Doctor." "The website will be ready to go on Oct 1st."

    Liberals how can you even spin this? This is the comments that Obama made, and you believed. You called us who opposed this law a traitor, a terrorist, a hostage taker, and a terrorist. So enjoy your Waterloo. I have my popcorn ready and I will enjoy the show!

    Come on fellow Dems, be thoughtful. We praised you during the shutdown when you bound together, and we still want you to do the same. It is not wise to jump so quickly now and think we have to extend the time of enrollment. You need to see how things proceeds. Once you see you are reaching to the deadline and things haven't improved, thats the time to call for the extension. Where are people of wisdom gone? Are all passed away?

    "Probably inevitable, given the complexity of the problem. I will agree with conservatives on one point only on this subject: businesses should not get a years' extension while everyone else doesn't. But then, businesses can afford to lobby Washington, while we can't."

    Oooooohhhhhh! Sniffit's gonna be so mad at you now. 🙂

    Here's the biggest problem with the Administration and PRESIDENT Obama (I don't want to be called a racist for not putting his title first)
    From the IRS, to Benghazi, to the NSA to this there is never any accountability. The only person that has paid a price for incompetence so far is the guy they blamed for making the video. Other than that, nada.

    Well no surprise here, they are afraid for their political careers. BUT guess what, EVERY Democrat voted for this piece of junk, they own it part and parcel.

    Don't forget, they also punished the number 2 guy in charge in Libya for trying to help save the Americans under attack and then not shutting up about what happened. They only punish people that tell the truth and show them for the liars that they are.

    And then there was the reporter they went after by lieing to the courts.

    ACA will be in red ink after a few years. I don't see it lasting past ten years unless you throw in a huge amount of money to sustain it. This will not reduce the deficit or medical cost. Spending gone wild.

    all lies told in order to get a huge new government healthcare entitlement program implemented. the american people would never have let it happen had they been told the truth by obama and the democrats. this is the most massive fraud ever perpetrated on the american people.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Um, no. The Dems want to EXTEND the lenght of time people have to enroll to six weeks past the original deadline. What the rethugs/teabag toddlers wanted to do was DELAY THE ENTIRE ENROLLMENT PROCESS IN AN EFFORT TO KILL THE WHOLE PROGRAM. Thanks for playing though.
