Senate poised for battle over Obama nominees

(CNN) - The bitter fight over nominations resumes Thursday as Senate Republicans appear poised to try and block two of President Obama's appointments, possibly triggering an angry backlash from Democrats.

One is the President's pick to be a judge on the highly influential U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. The other is a Democratic congressman the President wants to head the federal agency that oversees the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

If Republicans succeed in blocking the two, Democrats might carry out a threat to change Senate rules over GOP objections, the so-called "nuclear option," to prevent future filibusters of presidential appointees.

’ll pass my own laws: Obama has repeatedly been accused of making end runs around Congress by deciding which laws to enforce, including the decision not to deport illegal immigrants who may have been allowed to stay in the United States had Congress passed the “Dream Act.”
    Nominees for what?

  2. ThinkAgain: The GOP owes our nation $24 billion

God forbid repubs should actually propose meaningful legislation that will create jobs, lessen the income inequality, invest in our future, etc., etc., etc. They'd rather whine and complain and throw hissy fits. Repubs are nothing more than a pack of losers.

This is so COUNTERPRODUCTIVE and another one of the reason the economy is dragging. Every three or four weeks we see the Republicans throw a hissy fit. How many more times are we going to see the Republicans abuse the process? Filibusters use to be two or three a year, now we are over 50 a year. It is absurd, and needs to stop.

What are their objections to these nominees? If there is something that really disqualifies these people, then bring it up. If it is because Obama has nominated them, then there is no reason to object.

What are the odds Ted Cruz and the Aqua Buddha will try a second government shutdown in January ?

The federal government's latest annual deficit is the smallest it's been since 2008, according to Treasury Department data released Wednesday.

At $680 billion, the fiscal 2013 deficit is 51% less than it was in 2009, when it hit a record high nominally of $1.4 trillion.

What year did Bush leave office ?

The right of any Congressman/woman, OR anybody for that matter, to express opinions on issues is what democracy entails. But such expressions should be guided responsibly, towards overall good. The Repubs have rather used this right for negativities, to hurt President Obama, and promote destructive actitivies against the people. What is actually left after every efforts to revive US economy is deliberately stalled by these Repubs....with govt shutdown and hundreds of thousands of people sent on unemployment, and crisis endlessly stirred for the govt, as well making people believe they are govt mistakes. The genuinety of this right of opinion is queried. Infact with very low performance rating from Congress, like the biblical Babylon, nothing good can ever come from these Repubs, with appointments, budget or any other matters in support of Obama's efforts.

The "NO to anything the President say GOP" they are found a disservice to the Nation. If all the GOP / Tea parties has in no ideas but to filibuster every progressive move by our president. Then it's reasonable to call them "the NO Idea Party. How can you attract new members, younger generation if you have No ideas and opposes all new ideas for the nation.they will not win the WH nor the majority of the leadership for decades to come.

If Republicans succeed in blocking the two, Democrats might carry out a threat to change Senate rules over GOP objections,
Look, the Markess of Queensbury rules DO NOT apply when you're sparring with the GOPeeign Teatards. Observing and adhering to rules of any kind is reserved for honorable opponents – which the GOP is not.
Therefore what the Democraps need to do, first of all, is stop announcing their intentions. Do not make threats. Threats are a waste of spit and take away impact when carried out.
Pull a NIke and just do it.
