Internal notes show paltry initial enrollment in Obamacare

Washington (CNN) - Six people.

That's how many Americans had successfully enrolled in the federal health care exchange by the morning of October 2, according to documents provided to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Notes from a "war room" meeting at the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance between administration officials and contractors working on the rollout of HealthCare.gov underscore the beleaguered debut of the online marketplace.

Posted online Thursday by the House committee, the documents indicate that the six enrolled individuals were issued policies from five different insurance companies.

"Healthcare Service Corporation had the two enrollments," the notes recorded.

By the next meeting, held that afternoon, notes showed "approximately 100 enrollments" had taken place since the launch of the federal exchange.

The following morning, the total had increased to 248.

Notes released by the committee's chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-California, do not include official enrollment statistics and represent an incomplete accounting of the enrollment totals, said Joanne Peters, a Health and Human Services spokeswoman.

Again, the department declined to release the number of Americans who have been able to successfully enroll in the exchange.

"We will release enrollment statistics on a monthly basis after coordinating information from different sources such as paper, online, and call centers, verifying with insurers and collecting data from states," Peters said.

Peters reiterated that a slow start does not mean that the exchange will not boast a healthy roll call by the deadline to enroll.

"We have always anticipated that the pace of enrollment will increase throughout the enrollment period," Peters said.

Citing the quiet pace at which Massachusetts residents registered for that state's health program, the spokeswoman remained confident that enrollment totals would tick up as more people learned about the exchange.

HHS remains focused on providing accurate enrollment totals and cannot yet give those figures because of collection issues.

"We have had more than 20 million visitors to the Marketplace, showing an overwhelming interest in Americans learning more about their options for affordable health care," Peters said.

The Center for Consumer Information and Insurance is part of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The Emperor has no clothes!!!! Why can't news outlets and liberals just admit it? We have been lied to for the past 5 years! President Obama spent 5 years telling Americans that if you have a plan, you can keep your plan....Doesn't he know they record every word he says? Let's ask the 11 million Americans who have lost their healthcare plans if it was worth it so 15 million Americans will hopefully get on the barely working website and sign up for a healthcare plan that they maybe don't even want. This is on the Democrats backs because they pushed this forward without a thought about the American people.

What these people don’t understand is that there are a lot of people out there that don’t want to pay anything because they are health and then there are those out there that still won’t be able to pay the $200 a month after the rebate. Then the insurance companies won’t have enough people to keep it going and make a profit so they will pull out. End of Obama care until he can force everyone to do what he wants. And how can you ethically or legally fine someone who can’t afford to pay for this or simply doesn’t want to.

guess the whole nation is going to "kick the can" down the road......until November 2014......at least the voters that are up on current events, especially after reading these comments. As for the 40 and under crowd, well all I can say for those people is they better wake up, come November 2014, or else they are going to wake up in a world of hurt.

What a joke this has become. He is still trying to promote it, but should realize that this is not working, and hold off.

I wonder what Obamacare looked like BEFORE the RepubliCONs forced all THEIR "compromises" on it. People forget that Obama had to chop and change things to please the RepubliCONs before they would vote for it. Remember. . .Republicons pushed back on Medicare and Social Security when they were originally introduced.

I did my duty and applied for healthcare ... What a joke it was for me.. At this time i qualify for assistance with or free health insurance but because the state of Texas opted out of adding us that have no means to pay for insurance to the Texas Medicaid program I cant get any health insurance until I am able to find a job ( which I am productivly looking for).... So in the meantime I will pray that I do not get sick.

President Obama's approval rating is just 36 points higher than the total of number of people who signed up for Obamacare on the first day of the website launch.

Obama's approval rating's so low, Biden's considering dumping him as a running mate in favor of Hillary when he runs for President.

Obama has the same Gitmo policy as Bush, the same domestic surveillance policy as Bush and now, he has the same approval rating as Bush.

Alan, you are wrong on all poins. Not one single republican voted for Obamacare. The Democrates controlled both the senate and the house (and presidency) when it was passed. Like Nancy Pelosi said, "We'll have to pass it to see what is in it." Well, they did, and now, we get to see what's in it. Oh boy, oh joy.

Alan, not ONE single Republican voted for the plan and there were no compromises. This all belongs to the Democratic Party boneheads who even passed it at night because it could not stand the light of day. EVERY SINGLE REPRESENTATIVE WHO SUPPORTED IT WAS A DEMOCRAT. It has one purpose and one only, to destroy the economy.

Alan, I don't know what you're talking about. There were no compromises to the the Republicans. This disaster passed without the benefit of one vote by the Republicans in either the house or senate. They had to "bribe" certain Dems for votes. The Republicans are going to clean-up in the 2014 midterms.

Yes, because Issa's the go-to man when it comes to truthful information. Seriously? If you need a car ripped off to defraud your insurance company or your building burned down, Issa's the man, but non-partisan oversight of the government, you're better off asking the discounted tank full of brain-damaged goldfish at your local pet store.

Of course millions of people are coming to the website to look! You always get a large crowd at an accident site, people are drawn to seeing a train wreck in action........ The proof of this whole ridiculous venture will be the number of people who ACTUALLY signed up. The American people need to wake up and start working to take their Country back. Vote these career politicians OUT, and stop letting them drag us down!!!

The website aint the problem. The insurance plans are exactly the same. Whether your 21 or 65 years old. Do you want / need the same insurance coverage your 25 year old neice does when your a 64 year old retired male? The current coverage is tailored to the individual needs, ObamaCare does not One policy fits all. That's way insurance companies are cancelling current policies. That's why your premiums are going up and your ObamaCare coverge is going down.

Obamacare promotes welfare and Medicaid. And once these people are on it, its like crack and the government is the dealer. Future Democratic voters is their game plan. They know these people will do what ever it takes to keep their fix coming. They're just securing voters for up and coming elections with the hope Democrats will run it all. Pretty soon the country will be completely broke and looking like Detroit,Chicago and Cali which are all run by Democrats and will be coming to your town. Just a matter of time if they get their way.
