(CNN) - It appears fewer than 50,000 people successfully signed up for health coverage through the federally run Obamacare website during the first five weeks of open enrollment, falling well short of expectations for the period, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
The federal online application process has been marked so far by serious technical problems with HealthCare.gov since its October 1 launch.

Washington (CNN) - Two Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have asked the panel’s chairman to withdraw his Obamacare subpoena of the White House chief technology officer, according to a letter sent Monday.
In the letter released to reporters, Reps. Elijah Cummings of Maryland and Gerald Connolly of Virginia called Rep. Darrell Issa’s subpoena of Todd Park “unnecessary and misguided,” and said it was part of a “predetermined political strategy rather than a constructive effort to conduct responsible oversight.”

(CNN) - The winner of a tight local election in a mostly African-American community in Houston on Monday denied assertions that he deceived voters into thinking he was black.
Dave Wilson, who is white, edged out 24-year incumbent Bruce Austin by 26 votes, 5,961-5,935 to become the District II representative for the Houston Community College System board of trustees, according to the local election board.

(CNN) - The race for Virginia Attorney General appears headed for a recount, with 17 votes separating the candidates a week after Election Day out of more than 2.2 million ballots cast.
Republican state Sen. Mark D. Obenshain currently has a 0.0015%, lead over Democratic state Sen. Mark Herring, 1,103,443 to 1,103,426 in unofficial results, more than close enough for Herring to petition for a recount.
