(CNN) - A fierce critic of President Barack Obama’s sweeping health care initiative, Rep. Michele Bachmann said the law would eventually force her to buy insurance on the DC healthcare exchange.
"I lost my insurance under Obamacare so now I'm forced to go to the DC health exchange," the Minnesota Republican told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room” on Thursday.
"We are forced to go on the website and purchase the health insurance plan from the DC health exchange," she reiterated. "We'll do it, but remember there are a few problems with this website. The President acknowledged that. I'm not going to waste my time and frustration until they get the thing fixed."
Bachmann's comments follow Obama's announcement of an administrative change to the Affordable Care Act aimed at allowing those whose insurance is being canceled over the law to keep those plans for another year. Obama had said previously those policy holders would not lose their coverage.
Bachmann did not specify in the interview why she was losing her insurance.
A CNN survey shows most Senators and House members plan to participate in the Obamacare exchanges and take the employer contribution that comes with it. Others are seeking coverage on the private market.
Technical issues have plagued the website, HealthCare.gov, since the launch of the online exchange in October, barring many Americans from completing the signup process.
Obama has apologized for the rocky start and also promised to fix the major glitches in the website so it’s working for most people by month’s end.
Bachmann, a tea party favorite and former Republican presidential candidate, said that her husband has "very significant health issues" making it even more necessary they have coverage.
Healthcare enrollees must sign up for a plan through the exchanges by December 15 to get coverage starting January 1. The later deadline is March 31.
Bachmann did not confirm that she would buy insurance by the December deadline, but simply said she would wait until the system is fixed to purchase insurance.
CNN Capitol Hill reporter Lisa Desjardins and CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.
When the deadline falls, only "most" people will be able to use it.
Looks like then it won't really be fixed for all.
She is a government employee. Why wouldn't she gets insurance through the federal plans?
No you're not. You have to have health insurance, but so long as it isn't a junk policy that pays for little or nothing leaving the rest of us to pick up your health care costs, you can buy your health insurance directly from any company authorized to do business in the place you live.
You are not stupid, so I guess you're just another Republican liar.
Any one who buys what she is saying, I'm selling a map to some leprechaun gold cheap.
How about a show of hands of everyone that believes this. I don't see too many hands raised out there.
Not that I'm a fan of Obama's ACA, however I'm compelled to say hah hah hah. Michelle Bachman is a sorry pathetic excuse for a politician I've seen in my lifetime. I'm ashamed my state voted this woman in.
Michele must have missed the memo. At any rate, baggers will be now allowed to keep their worthless junk policies, and if they get sick, we will get to pay for them at the emergency room. Every wingnut should be dancing in the streets.
I call lie. she's a member of congress and gets excellent health care.
If she truly was losing her health cover, why aren't other members of congress whining about the same thing.
Bachmann is a freaking Liar!! She has Congresses health care insurance
Here are a list of Michele Bachmann's pants on fire claims:
The president … by executive order" could grant voting rights to illegal immigrants who are newly legalized under pending legislation.
The IRS is going to be "in charge" of "a huge national database" on health care that will include Americans’ "personal, intimate, most close-to-the-vest-secrets."
Scientists tell us that we could have a cure in 10 years for Alzheimer's" were it not for "overzealous regulators, excessive taxation and greedy litigators."
Of every "three dollars in food stamps for the needy, seven dollars in salaries and pensions (go to) the bureaucrats who are supposed to be taking care of the poor."
Small businesses that have "$250,000 in gross sales for the business. They're the ones that are looking at massive tax increases."
62% of Bachmann's statements are either False or Pants on Fire. Hard to believe her unless she shows proof.
i'm feeling pretty bad about this one. in the four years since the law was passed you did EVERYTHING you could to mess it up and NOTHING to make it better.
She is losing her insurance because she won't be a member of Congress anymore. She decided not to run for reelection and won't be in the House. If she hasn't taken advantage of the health insurance members of Congress (and their staff) can get, then she is really more of a fool than I thought.
Dear Michelle, when you do pick a plan, please pick one that has mental health coverage. You need it.
Sorry about her husband health issues; but she won't get a lot of sympathy from me, she could attach him to her congressional insurance, but maybe he has a pre-existing condition that her husband isn't insuranced under the congressional insurance plan, isn't fortunate that Obama got the ACA passed and signed into law so that his pre-existing condition is covered!
I don't for one minute believe a word of this.........in the first place any health insurance plan that this wealthy woman has would not have been affected by this program..........She has been caught in blatant lies and ridiculous statements so many times that it should be vertually impossible for any one to believe ANYTHING she says.....!!!!!
...
Of course you did Michelle, of course you did. Run in 2016..... Please.
Baloney. As a Congress Critter she has family health coverage for free. This woman is an abomination.
Go Michele! Get yourself 5 more minutes of fame.
Who cares you crazy loser! Go away!
She says what? OK, considering her literary license of past statements, FIRST THING; check to see wallet, watch, rings and underware are not pick pocketed; 2nd: she can always buy private insurance, 3rd; DC site has had no trouble; 4th she should thank president she's getting a quality product. She can always publish her current plan and costs to her vs what the web site offers page per page. Then we'll see if anything she says is true. Be prepared for hype, obstruction, some lying and untrue statements. Then watch her pals, the suicide vest wearing kookoo TEA potie caucus cry and tear clothing at the idea that she must display her stupidity, AGAIN.
DC has their own health insurance exchange. She doesn't have to use healthcare.gov.
Why is anyone listening to this crazy women?
Another one of Michelle's made up stories? I don't trust anything she says. She tops the list for pants on fire lies!
Does anyone find this hard to believe?
I am sure this is as factually correct as most of her other statements.
