Obama offers fix for canceled health plans

- Obama: Government will tell insurers they can extend, through 2014, individual-market plans that otherwise would be canceled under Obamacare.
- But president notes not all state insurance commissioners may agree to extensions. Companies have a say, too.
- Some providers had been dropping customers because their existing policies don't work with new Obamacare regulations.
- Insurance trade group: Changing the rules now could result in higher premiums.
- Updates below. Also, see the full story.

Im Sorry, but I'm 22 years old, and thankfully due to Obamacare Im able to stay on my parents insurence, until 26 (in which case i am FORCED to buy something i dont want (so i will refuse,[sorry but WAY to Communist for my taste!!] and proudly accept the label of criminal) – But why is no one talking about lowering the overall cost of medical treatment, this is an easy one. If an X-Ray only has a production cost of $50, you shouldnt try to charge $500,- thats where Federal insurence should attempt to stabilize prices back to more reasonable cost resembling somewhat based on production cost. I work for a hardware store, and am constantly being asked why a screw, nut,or bolt cost 23 cents that has probably has a production cost of about .1 cent????????? – Im guessing that coporate greed has driven the cost of health care that it is today, Federal insurence should be the competition for private insurence companies to begin lowering medical cost for everyone despite haveing private or federal insurence. – On a side note, Leave it alone Capitalism is what has elevated this country to the highest standard of living the world knows, Sadly- It seems both parties are only concerned with saving their freinds money, – which comes from the hours I work ( NEWSFLASH: You (whoever you may be) are NOT entitled to anything I own, my money, or entitled to be elevated to or degraded to my current standard of living!!! – Dear Communist, please move to China, N.K., Or a country with your like minded simpleness – 22 year old taxpayer from GA.

If you like your president, you can NOT keep him.

We need articles of impeachment now and a republican senate to remove him.

This is not an olive branch by the president! My insurance company is cancelling my insurance because it chose not to accept Obamacare in my state. They (ins. co) offered me two options months ago: 1. keep my policy for 1 more year and be done. 2. accept new policy with a rate increase of 50%.
Neither is what i want and not what the president promised the people of the United States.
Stop allowing this clown off the hook!

So, he is going to "allow" insurance companies to continue selling "illegal" (thanks to Obamacare) health care plans to people recieving cancelation notices.............

He is going to force these companies to inform these people that they might be able to find a "better deal" on the Obamacare exchanges.........

He seemed not to be worried about the 5% of the population that were in the individual market whom would more than likely be affected by cancelations. That means he could give a you know what about 16.5 million Americans (estimated we have 330 million in the country.......). That is alot of p'd off people if you ask me.

Not to mention all the jobs that were lost or scaled back to go under 30hrs per week. Higher premiums for middle class families in the Obamacare exchanges............ Doesnt look good for those Democrats in Red states.

How he ever got elected, twice no less, speaks volumes of the lack of intelligence in this country and why it is in the sad shape it's in!

How does the POTUS change the rules without Congressional action? Is this a dictatorship?

Excuses from a non-honest President. The project plan was a disaster, it's clear from his own statements the risks were understood. So why did the project not have all the risks incorporated. Longer time for testing and earlier start time to enroll. Also, mandated notification at least a year prior to the date to insurance customers being canceled. I am sure I could of alone done a better job, but of course those jobs were given to foreign entities and H1B employees.

What are we going to do about it???? – probably nothing, but the House of Reps. have a good idea, to bad it's only for Eric "guilty of contempt" Holder!!!! (o by the way, I understand Bush did worse, but because one guy got away with a crime dosent allow free passes for every future president to do the same)

Wake up! This has absolutely nothing to do with healthcare. Dems could care less how much you have to pay for healthcare. This is nothing more than a sham by this administration and the insurance companies. Insurance can't control the cost of healthcare. Notice they don't do a thing about tort reform or allow anyone buy across state lines? Congress is full of mostly lawyers and insurance companies are one of the most powerful "industries" in the nation.

First, he is was grossly negligent in his duties as Commander-in-Chief – Benghazi – on his watch – four Americans brutally murdered. Then, he orders the IRS to target anyone who does not agree with his policies, then, there is the invasion of privacy on American citizens through phone and internet taps, now, people are left without health insurance, and subsequently without the healthcare they had previously, because of Obamacare. This president has not only broken his oath of office, he has outright lied to the American people and we are suffering because of it. These are all grounds for impeachment.

One thing this entire ACA debacle shows me is that as voters, we need to quit looking to the political, business, economic worlds for leaders. We are a technological world and we need leaders that understand this, that are involved in it and can take us forward with it.
So when you look for leaders from now on, look in the technology field and ask those you trust,,,,,will you lead us?

I'm 25 and know what's wrong with health care. A combination of medical costs being so high(and over priced...lets be honest) and wages being stagnate over the last 30+ years. It wouldn't be an issue if people could just afford it, but it seems healthcare wages have increased as well as the cost of various treatments ect.

The ACA is DEAD, gone. It CANNOT be funded without those millions who got booted off their plans. Mark todays date as the end of the ACA..

Unbelievable, this address is turning out to be kind of a roundtable discussion with news men and women about how to design Obamacare. The President seems to me to be rambling. Unraveling.

What about the people on the PCIP program? This is a government program for people with pre-existing conditions that were forced to leave their private plans and participate in this program.

***Obama: Government will tell insurers they can extend, through 2014, individual-market plans that otherwise would be canceled under Obamacare.***

So the "if you like your current doctor / health insurance" line is still a lie – just delayed until 2014.

If a one year extension is good, why not a two year extension? Why not three, four or five?
