Obama offers fix for canceled health plans

- Obama: Government will tell insurers they can extend, through 2014, individual-market plans that otherwise would be canceled under Obamacare.
- But president notes not all state insurance commissioners may agree to extensions. Companies have a say, too.
- Some providers had been dropping customers because their existing policies don't work with new Obamacare regulations.
- Insurance trade group: Changing the rules now could result in higher premiums.
- Updates below. Also, see the full story.

bwahahahhahaha!!!! the only 'fix' here is to the re-election of democrats in 2014!!! delaying the disaster so they all don't get the boot in 2014 because of obamacare!!!

this liar in chief is the worse political hack to ever to inhabit the white house. everything he does is politically motivated. he could care less about the american people losing their healthcare plans.

Wilma want's to know what a one year extension will accomplish besides being a wait time that insurance rates climb even more. Is it time to save money for that more expensive insurance?..or...to enroll in obamacare that can't even compare to the coverage of the lost policy?.

Another "kick the can down the road" moment. Let's just delay making a decision until it is less politically damaging is not leadership. Make a decision. Be presidential.

Not surprised the state(CA) with the most illegal immigrants has the highest enrollment!

I did not believe him when he first ran for office, I did not believe him the second time.... and after this round of lies, he will be remembered like Tricky Dicky Nixon, a liar.... plain, pure and simple.

Oh goody, now they get to live in fear for a year knowing their policies will be cancelled anyway after 2014
This is not a fix, just Obama reacting to his scared Dems who are up for re-election in 2014
You still lied Mr. President, as these people WILL STILL LOSE THEIR INSURANCE NEXT YEAR.
Doesn't this guy get anything right?

Um.. where does he get the power to stop enforcement of the law that says these plans do not provide significant coverage? Pretty sure congressional action is required for this suggestion- and ins companies need to WANT to continue to offer them as well, unless the position is that we can force someone to sell something.

    What a great idea...

...every day I wake up, I am reminded why I like and voted for Obama...same as every day I woke up from 2001 to 2009 I was reminded why I disliked Bush...

Under what legal authority can he just decide "Oh I'm changing this law today?"

You people voted for Obama and Obamacare. Now you must pay for both mistakes. Obama is clueless and a complete failure.

Thanks for screwing us Democratic Party, just like normal. Never understand the thinking that anyone that works
for a living wants people to pay more. Just like all the socialistic issues Obama has pushed on the Public.
Get your 2 years finished so we can start voting on who's the worst Pres (Mr. Unpatriotic Debt ceiling Preacher).

Shuck and Jive! The cat is out of the bag. Insurer's can turn on a dime and reinstate these policies. Next month's cancellations - maybe. The 5 million that have already occurred - not realistic!

Obama breaks the Law once again. He has no authority to authorize or grant such extensions.

Does this mean the penalty for not having coverage will be delayed too??

The President said, "I am proposing to extend existing insurance policies into 2014." It sounds like this speech is to set up an extension long enough to protect Democrats through the 2014 election.

Based on Obama's promise, shouldn't he be asking to allow people to keep their insurance indefinitely and not just one year?

And people wonder why we don't trust the government to administer big programs like this efficiently. Let's face it: Republicans have been saying for 4 years that this was going to be an outright bumbling, fumbling disaster, and they were right.

How does this fix anything? It's just a one year extension, with no guarantee that your canceled plan will still cost the same as it did. It's just a desperate attempt to stop his approval rating from plummeting any further.

The elephant in the room is that the problems with the ACA stem from lawmakers' insistence on perusing health reform that left the criminal for profit insurance cartels in charge. They need to be out of business as soon as possible. It's time to join the rest of the developed world in the 21st century and extend Medicare to all.
