(CNN) - Sen. John Cornyn, the Senate's second-ranking Republican, kicked off his re-election campaign on Friday at an event in Austin where he was joined by Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
"Texas is the model for the rest of the country, and we need to make the rest of the country more like Texas–not the other way around," Cornyn said.
The Senator's campaign launch comes amid uncertainty over whether he will face a primary challenger. But with a December 9 filing deadline looming, no major opposition has stepped up so far.
Cornyn was elected to his second term in 2008, taking 55% of the vote against Democrat Rick Noriega. In the 2014 bid, he faces no well-known Democrats so far.
The Senator starts his 2014 campaign with a hefty war chest of about $7 million, according to Federal Election Commission records.
"Texas is the model for the rest of the country, and we need to make the rest of the country more like Texas–not the other way around," he said.

You can keep Texas. It's too dangerous to live there. I guess someone hasn't heard about the latest town in Texas to blow up in an industrial accident. It's not clear from the article who is responsible for the above quote. But, it sounds like a Perry classic.
Texas is the model for the rest of the country, and we need to make the rest of the country more like Texas–not the other way around," Cornyn said.
He can't be serious.........LMAO
"Texas is the model for the rest of the country, and we need to make the rest of the country more like Texas–not the other way around," Cornyn said.
Sorry John, Texas is a joke. It takes more than it gives and is full of ignorant rednecks like you.
TX is not like every State in the Country. Massachusetts is not like every State. Oregon is different too. Different people, history, climate, economy. He sounds like the Damned Fed. Guvment of the 1960s.
Surely Sen Cornyn jests. The Texas model, result of gerrymandering, isn't a shining example of democracy.
"Texas is the model for the rest of the country, and we need to make the rest of the country more like Texas–not the other way around," Cornyn said.

No! Please, no - Wisconsin is already being ruined by Texas-style stupid. The very last thing we need is more of it.
Where else can you make $170,000 a year and just say no.
Bush , Cornyn , Perry
Enron , it made us stronger !
@Republicans have no solutions:
Perhaps this will enlighten you a bit. They have some ideas but they were just pushed to the side by democrats:
Brings greater fairness to the tax code by extending tax savings to those who
currently do not have employer-provided insurance but purchase health insurance on
their own. This provision would provide an “above the line” deduction that is equal
to the cost of an individual’s or family’s insurance premiums.
• Provides immediate substantial financial assistance, through new refundable and
advanceable tax credits, to low- and modest-income Americans.
• Recognizes that many Americans who have not yet hit retirement age but may be
changing jobs or have lost a job often face higher health care costs. To help those
aged 55 to 64, the plan increases support for pre- and early-retirees with low- and
modest-incomes.
• Recognizes that one of the largest obstacles for many small businesses when it comes to
retaining current employees or creating new jobs is the cost of health insurance. The
plan allows states, small businesses, associations, and other organizations to band
together and offer health insurance at lower costs.
• Implements comprehensive medical liability reform that will reduce costly,
unnecessary defensive medicine practiced by doctors trying to protect themselves
from overzealous trial lawyers.
• Provides Medicare and Medicaid with additional authority and resources to stop
waste, fraud, and abuse that costs taxpayers billions of dollars every year.
• Creates incentives to save now for future and long-term health care needs by
improving health savings accounts and flexible spending arrangements as well as
creating new tax benefits to offset the cost of long-term care premiums.
• Gives financial help to caregivers who provide in-home care for a loved one.
Texas is turning Democratic state.
Another locked down Republican Senate seat.... good news. And all of those red state Democrat Senators, nine of them, that voted for and still support Obama and Obamacre? Well the Demorcats can kiss those good bye. Thanks President Obama! You and your Obamacare are gifts from God to the Republican Party! We are SO glad to continue to stand firm behind Obamacare and flip the American people the middle finger. Keep up the good work.
"Texas is the model for the rest of the country, and we need to make the rest of the country more like Texas–not the other way around," Cornyn said.

"No! Please, no – Wisconsin is already being ruined by Texas-style stupid. The very last thing we need is more of it."
Yeah, what's going on up there, anyway? Am I totally mistaken, or is Wisconsin turning more and more Red?
I ALREADY Pay For Your Insurance
-–
well you used to be able to just pay cash for your health care. if you hate insurance companies so much, why not just self insure? until obamacare came along, nobody was forcing you to buy insurance. if you felt you were bing screwed you can always just pay your own way.
I'll give credit where credit is due: CNN certainly brings out alternate reality talking points.
Texas and the Republican Party are the epic failure, ask ROMNEY!!!!!
Senate, just Reject the Bill GOP passed today–it is junk.

Texas is one of the nation's most expensive states to live in when it comes to property taxes and other fees that the state charges homeowners, but not businesses.
John Cornyn is just another talking head with a cowboy hat that just takes in oxygen and millions of dollars in kickbacks, but only produces more greenhouse gases when he exhales. He's done nothing good for anyone but his billionaire cronies.
Texas, the worst heal care in the country and you can add worst education to that.
