Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama didn’t mention Obamacare once in his weekly address Saturday, preferring instead to tout progress toward American energy independence.
“After years of talk about reducing our dependence on foreign oil, we are actually poised to control our own energy future,” Obama said, pointing to administration policies like green investments that have spurred domestic production and renewable energy use while improving fuel standards.
For Obama, the progress means an improved economy by creating jobs while also lessening environmental impacts.
“It proves that the old argument that we can’t strengthen the economy and be good stewards of our planet at the same time is a false choice. We can do both,” he said.
The President also marked a milestone.
“Just this week, we learned that for the first time in nearly two decades, the United States of America now produces more of our own oil here at home than we buy from other countries,” he said.
“That’s a big deal.”
Hollow words from a hollow President.
Why not we bring the cancellation guys under government-run-exchanges at the same or little cheaper price to checkmate insurance thugs drama and GOP thugs nagging? We can do it.
RWNJs are once again on the wrong side of history. Too many good things will result from the ACA, and we cannot let republicans destroy this like they have tried to destroy social security, medicare, VA, etc. Stick with the president and not the domestic terrorists.
How can one be so frequently wrong and never in doubt? What green energy Mr. President? All of the green you have given to friends and supporters for the companies that they have driven into bankruptcy? You are driving utilities to close power plants and your administrations policies are killing nuclear power....I know that this is exactly what you and your incredibly silly supporters want...however....the rest of do not want to see this nation driven to third world status. I understand that you and many of your supporters are incapable of looking at scientific data and drawing conclusions....you have said that you are very good with numbers (yea, we noticed)....but how about listening to those of us who are scientists and engineers. Man made global warming is a hoax.....perpetrated by the UN. Why? Transfer of wealth....as much as they enjoy the fun of NY City and running up massive numbers of parking tickets....they don't like this country. Certainly they tolerate us when one of them gets into trouble, but deep down they despise us.....Mr. President....I get the feeling that not so deep down you and your henchmen despise us too....
In watching the coverage right now on msnbc I'm floored. They're talking about the fact that Obama didn't consult the insurance companies before he made the announcement. Are you kidding me? Nobody can be that dumb (nor arrogant).
Every time this President opens his mouth, he lies to the people of this country. Why does ANYONE continue to listen????
“After years of talk about reducing our dependence on foreign oil, we are actually poised to control our own energy future,”
Why don't we talk about reducing the dependence of welfare bums on Nanny?
Water Gate – Iran Contra – Monica Lewinsky – Iraq War & Hurricane Katrina – Obama care .
And the sad thing is we need affordable health care .
Lame Duck Time
Tom l – Fortunately for us, the insurance industry did not write the ACA. It was not smart for Cheney to only include oil companies to determine energy policies. I think most people would think you are wrong.
The GOP tea bags are a bunch of quitters. And their base are a bunch of dolts (most of whom will probably have to go to a dictionary to understand what "dolt" means).
Yes, the website has problems. Yes, insurance companies chose to dump policy holders instead of offering something better than crap.
And the GOP tea bag response? If at first you don't succeed, throw up your hands, whine and stomp your feet, do anything but actually help the situation.
Why? Because all they care about is getting back into power – and if they have to destroy our country to do that, then by golly they will!
How do GOP tea bag voters heads not explode?
@A True Conservative: Boy, you've really been duped hard, buddy. All the things you accuse President Obama and the Dems of doing, the GOP has done and continues to do ad nauseum.
I bet you blame all your bad behavior on others in your private life, too, eh? Pathetic!
Obama can try to change the subject as much as he wants – but people are having their insurance cancelled every day. This is a story with 1000 legs and he gave it more with his trying to blame the insurance company's if they don't extend the policies they cancelled – because they were forced to under the Obamacare law.
There sure is a lot of hate for Obama here. Makes me a little sad to see, really. How can "conservatives" be so against the idea of energy independence?
What hutzpah!!!! This clown brags about oil production and other issues that he had nothing to do with while leading from behind. The man has no shame!
Give it up teatards.
Why do insurance agents make more then Doctors ?
@Rick McDaniel, every time you write you look stupid or racist. Lies? Did you remember Bush, WMD, IRAQ WAR DRAIN ON USA TREASURY, HALLIBURTON CONTRACTS ETC. nonsense. At least ACA is a law, need of the USA.
@Rick McDaniel-Don't tell us who we can listen to. Your disrespect for our President is appalling.
Yes We Can protect our environment and grow our economy, Yes We Can have affordable heathcare for our citizens, and Yes We Can do a better job of educating our young. Why these goals make some people so angry?
Obama has a problem, he has to take on the powerful insurance companies that have been raping the American people for decades, and the rabid repubs that doesn't see logic at all. they will take these folks inconvenience with the obamacare insurance drops, and turn it in the end of the world. they even goes as far as comparing the obamacare roll out to Katrina. what is these folks smoking. you had one president that didn't give a dam about dying and suffering people, and this president that cares too much for the American people that he over did something that will benefit the American people for decades to come. how the hell can these right wingers compare Katrina and obamacare.
@tom i
The President didn't need to consult insurance companies before making the announcement. He didn't direct them to or the states do anything. If their state agencies allow it, the ACA will allow them to extend their canceled policies if they canceled them because the policies did not meet the ACA requirements. They will have more time to make them compliant IF they want to do so. Many of the cancellations may not have had any relationship to the ACA requirements. They might simply have been the usual annual policy changes and cancellations that these companies make as a matter of business decisions. They will not be forced to reinstated policies that they didn't want anyhow. He offered them a choice, not an order.
Fossil fuels are not renewable. There will be a time when there is no more oil, coal, natural gas no matter how much pollution we permit. Developing renewable energy sources is critical. The technology is growing and more green energy is being produced. Future generations will depend on renewable sources so we must invest in it. There is no way to create more fossil fuels.
@Tigas: You saying that the President's words are hollow proves that to folks like you, anything he does is bad. If a report had said we were still producing less oil domestically than we import, you would have complained about THAT.
You and others of your ion are why I despise the current incarnation of the right. You truly are a bunch of nut jobs.
Breaking News: Tomorrow President Obama will take credit for the sun coming up!

Energy. I seem to remember the republicans especially mitt Romney saying Obama was not doing enough to get to energy independence. from what I hear not from this administration but those who know how long it takes to find and drill oil that we will or could be 100 self generating by either 2017 2020 depends which experts you believe not ranting politicians of either genre.
Health care. Another bill from the house going nowhere it wont pass the senate and even if it did BO would veto, but he wont have to do that.
people who have junk policies would have known they would need anew policy. Next what defeats me is why insurance companies did not offer a minimum policy and premium, then these people if they are low earners = ( cant afford full reasonable health care might be able to get relief under various provisions of ACA
The web site is not the act and it will be fixed.
Surely the simple fix under the law is to offer the junk policy holders the Bronze plan and let them where they can claim reliefs under the act, or they can just opt out altogether and pay the fine.
Regards.
Hodgson.
