Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's efforts to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are expected to face some crucial Senate votes this week, and for the first time in four years, he stands a chance to win some.
A Senate bill to authorize defense spending contains some of the loosest restrictions yet on transferring Guantanamo prisoners, including possibly to the United States for detention, trial or medical care.
FULL STORY
Well, we all know that Republicans have to vote against closing Guantanamo in order to sustain the "he lied" narrative with bullet points.
This will go just like the Lincoln thing- When Obama proposed closing Gitmo, and using federal prisons and courts the GOP wnt nuts and said we'd all die (or something dramatic), of course now they say he lied and won't close Gitmo.
When you want nothing done.... vote GOP!
I'm more concerned about the TEAhadists in this country than the jihadists in Cuba.
How much dose it cost to run Gitmo ?
Why not fly them first class to say Texas ?
There is a pattern here for sure:
#1 The country needs to address the __________ issue.
#2 GOP sits there and says no – no action – no vote.
#3 GOP press release: "Obama didn't make ______________ happen. He must be a Dictator."
closing gitmo.... just another case of a clueless incompetent obama shooting his mouth off about something he knew nothing about. these are the worse of the worse. a lot of these terrorist murders that were released made their way back to aq and attacking and killing americans. if obama and the liberals want them released, might I suggest sa halfway home in their neighborhood?
And what CNN won't tell you about: the civilian courts are getting convictions faster and more reliably than the military kangaroo court crap. Let the GOP/Teatrolls demagoguery continue though...please proceed....
"How much dose it cost to run Gitmo ?"
As the article says...it's about $2.7M per prisoner per year, as opposed to $35,000 per prisoner per year if we bring them here and put them in maximum security federal prisons. You know, like we did with people like Moussoui, who nobody has heard from since and will never hear from again and whose prison hasn't been the target of a massive terrorist attack trying to free him, etc. The BS the GOP/Teatroll/MSM symbiote is spilling on this issue is pretty disgusting, but I suppose it's understandable; having a boogeyman to scare everyone is a very useful tool in manipulating public sentiment....and boy do the GOP/Teatrolls and MSM love having Muslims as a general class of boogeyman.
