Obama approval rating sinks to new low in CNN poll

Washington (CNN) - As President Barack Obama's approval rating hits another all-time low, a new national survey also indicates that Americans say the President has less power than congressional Republicans when it comes to shaping events over the next year.

According to a CNN/ORC poll released Thursday, 41% of Americans approve of the job the President's doing in the White House, the lowest level for that crucial indicator in CNN polling. Fifty-six percent questioned say they disapprove of Obama's performance, an all-time high in CNN surveys.

The President's approval rating has now reached new lows or tied his all-time lows in polls released over the past three weeks from CNN/ORC, CBS News, ABC News/Washington Post, Quinnipiac University, National Journal Heartland Monitor, and NBC News/Wall Street Journal. And the CNN survey is the fourth non-partisan live operator national poll released this week to put Obama's approval rating between 40% and 42%. A CBS News survey released Wednesday showed the President's approval rating at 37%.

Geography appears to play a role in the President's falling numbers.

"The drop in Obama's approval rating comes entirely among suburbanites," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Compared to the October CNN poll, positive views of Obama held steady among people who live in big cities and rural areas. But in the suburbs, his approval rating was 45% a month ago but has dropped to just 37% now."

The President's overall job approval rating is down three points since mid-October after being stuck in the mid-40s for several months in CNN polling. But it's worth noting that Obama's woes did not begin with the disastrous launch of the website in October, Holland pointed out.

"The real damage came in June, when reports about NSA spying and IRS treatment of conservative groups caused an eight-point drop in his approval rating - a far more significant change than what the numbers from October suggest," he said.

Who should shape Washington?

Fifty percent believe that congressional Republicans will have more influence over the direction the nation takes in the next year while only 42% saying the President will have more influence, according to the poll. That's a change from November 2012, when more six in ten said Obama would have more influence in the year to come.

Who should have more influence is a different story.

The poll shows 47% want Obama to be in charge while 45% say the GOP should have more influence over the country.

"There is a hint of good news for the President - but only a hint - in those numbers, since that means that the number of Americans who support Obama in his struggles with the GOP is a bit higher than the 41% approval rating would suggest. But that number is also a step down in Obama's support, representing a four-point decline since the last time the question was asked just after Obama won re-election last year," Holland said.

The poll was conducted Nov. 18-20 for CNN by ORC International, with 843 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

This fraud president would have never been elected had he been honest about OBAMACARE. He is a criminal and should be arrested for negligent homicide for his Benghazi refusal to aid dying Americans. He has used the IRS, DOJ, and NSA for his own political gain. This Obamacare thing is a total lie and disaster, it will cost Democrats the Senate next year. Obama was only elected because he was black and he lied. What a national disgrace!!!!

He is pretty, has nice teeth, and is well spoken. But he was not prepared properly for the job .The political parties are only interested in winning the election, no matter how empty the shirt. The public is catching on now.

What Oblabber and the Dems fails to recognize is that all the damage he is doing will come around and bite him and them in the yass later when the GOP or the Tea Party seizes power and do onto them what he has been doing onto us. Think not? Its building momentum as you read. Remember.... What goes around........ And turn-about is fair play.

It's funny how the disasters of the presidency are mostly from things that were passed when the Democrats ruled congress, yet people are still blaming Republicans. This president has not reached out across the aisle at all. He is the most divisive president in our history. And he has no clue how to lead. Real leaders bring people together and he has not done that at all. Blame Republicans all you want but a real leader would bring them to the table.

To Dan wondering when Fox News lies: a case in point is Sean Hannity. Sean Hannity attempted to show that a lot of people attended a conservative rally in Washington in September. As Jon Stewart' s staff pointed out all the signs people carried stated something about the 4th of July celebration. Hannity got caught using footage from another rally cause the Glen Beck one got nobody. That is just the tip ... Fox is notorious for only reporting part of a story, selectively editing out facts to slant the story the conservative way.

Dear the real truth, you name 36 things [you] say Obama did in 5 yrs. All i see is 91 million people out of work. All i see is more people working part time then full time. All i see is " if you like your plan you can kept your plan period" if you like your doctor you can kept your doctor period" Your great leader said that 29 times, so he lied 29 times. So the 36 things you say is great, i just name 3 things that is worse.

People in this country need to learn the word PATIENCE. It doesn't take 1 month to 1 year to pull out of something like this. It took Roosevelt 9 years plus World War 2 to get out of the Great Depression. Any one who voted Republican in 2010 and thinks the ACA law is bad, I have no sympathy for you. You deserve what you get. And people who were against the GM and Chrysler bail-out, you wouldn't be against it fi you worked for either of them. Heartless, pathetic, non-caring people.

And two articles below this garbage DOW breaks 16,000 for the first time. I am happy with Obama – when Bush was in office I didn't even look to see what the market was doing.

When a president continues to lie to the American public, what kind of loyalty do you expect? When a president and his spouse constantly puts themselves above everyone else as if the deserve it, what kid of loyalty do you expect. When a president cannot accept responsibility for what he or his subordinates do, what kind of loyalty do you expect. When a president constantly blames everyone else for his failures, what kind of loyalty do you expect. What worries me is the percentage of Americans that cannot see or will not see his failures, his blaming all others and his lies. They are the ones responsible.

The people are speaking and they do not like what is happenning, note the presidential approval rating. Along comes Dirty Harry with the nuclear option. I would not want to be a federal appointee in this environment. Their lives aren't worth a plug nickle. Snipers will be killing republican appointees just to load up the judiciary with democratic appointees. Retaliation does not matter, plenty of dems to replace the lost. We have entered the Age of Anarchy.

The only numbers that matter, are the insurance premiums. And they are much lower, with better coverage. As soon as the panic subsides, and people run the numbers, his approval rating is going to sky rocket.

    Mr Obama,
You can fool some of the people, some of the time,
You can fool some of the people all of the time.
But you cant fool all of the people all of the time.
Its a funny thing about lies, and that is they allways catch up with the one doing the lying.

My family of four supports our President 100 percent. We have had health care for more than thirty years. Obama care won't affect us. The cost is increasing. Something must be done. Uninsured people, will make future costs skyrocket. Americans, don't understand that it's not just about them. We have people and children, who are sick and suffering, needlessly. If we allow Republicans to eliminate Obama care, only the Rich will have access to health care. They have successfully ended your child's chance of ever getting a master's or PHD, now only the Rich have that opportunity. What else will they try to steal from Americans ?

    Still higher than Bush's low.
But someone tell me, what is the approval rating of congress? Oh, right…..9% by the highest poll.
When congress and the president reverse approval situations, then lets talk about it.
