Democrats call Issa's Obamacare road show a 'destructive' political act

(CNN) – The top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Friday accused the panel's chairman of engaging in a "destructive political exercise" by launching a series of hearings on the road meant to highlight various flaws in the Affordable Care Act.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings said in a written statement it's evident that Republicans are not invested in fixing the flawed federal health care website, and are instead trying to undermine President Barack Obama's signature legislative accomplishment.

Republicans have the "ultimate goal of tearing down the Affordable Care Act, promoting misinformation and eliminating health insurance for tens of millions of people," Cummings said. "The Committee should support constructive efforts to help educate and assist families who urgently need medical care and now have a chance to obtain it."

California GOP Rep. Darrell Issa, the panel's chairman, kicked off a series of four hearings Friday that will be held outside of Washington. Friday's hearing was in North Carolina – home of embattled Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan, who is up for re-election next year.

Issa will also hold field hearings over the next few weeks in Georgia, Texas and Arizona.

Cummings' statement asserted that local North Carolinians who requested permission to testify in support of the Affordable Care Act were denied the opportunity to do so by Issa's Committee. But Issa's office said Democrats didn't request witnesses at Friday's field hearing. No Democrats attended the event.

A slew of technical issues marred the initial launch of the federal government's online healthcare exchange,, impeding countless attempts to sign up for health insurance coverage. President Barack Obama admitted earlier this month that his administration "fumbled" the site's rollout, and promised significant improvements by the end of the month.

Democrats, however, have accused Issa and other GOP lawmakers of attacking the Affordable Care Act for purely political reasons. Among other things, Democrats insist Issa has selectively leaked administration documents and reports on's launch in a way designed to make the rollout process look as terrible as possible.

Issa has issued several subpoenas to numerous Health and Human Services officials and technology officers, ordering them to testify about the botched rollout before his committee.

hmmm.. I don't remember this effort being in the GOP playbook – I must have missed that page...but given that Issa's witch hunt's in DC have ALL failed miserably.. the only place left for him to go is to anti-ACA states to stump...
I'd love to see what would happen if her took it to CA... he'd be laughed out of the theater.

Sure , repeal the ACA and eliminate Medicade , but extend Medicare to cover everyone in the country from birth , first . It's apparent there is no other equitable way to do it , and expand SS , too , like Elizabeth Warren wants to do . The ACA is an attempt at working through the private insurance market place to create better coverage at lower prices , but with greed from insurance companies and obstruction and assault from republicans , it's having mixed results , with no one having a real handle on how many people are being harmed or how many are being helped , everyone should stop making spurious claims and let it run its course . It's not set in stone . The law can always be repealed , replaced or changed as need be .

People like Donna truly amaze me. The Obama haters live in a very tiny bubble and can't see the forest through the trees. President Obama did not lie as many insurance policies were grandfathered into the new law, however it is the insurance companies and the Republican run states (that chose not to set up their own exchanges) that are deliberately hurting the law. All this president tried to do was right a wrong of Americans not be able to get health insurance due to various issues but that accomplishment, which no other president has ever come close to, is being treated by the haters as some horrific conspiracy to denigrate the country and its citizens. It's just crazy nonsense and I, for one, am sick of hearing all of the whining crybabies like Donna!!

Issa, keep your slimy paws off my Obamacare. Darrell is darn good at releasing edited information with that right wing nut slant, while refusing to let the other side testify, and, based on his former crooked business dealings, he is about as dishonest as they come.

I find it amazing how rwnj complain about the cost of Obama golfing, but are completely find with their tax dollars being used like this, have any idea Joe stupid you are, your tax dollars are being used yo support an initiative to lower your standard of living, and your paying for it, you honestly think the Koch brothers want your life better? Ever think maybe that's why its not happening?

Darrel Issa was suspected of arson when a business he owned mysteriously burned down a short time after he quadrupled the fire insurance on it , he was arrested for illegal possession of a concealed weapon and was a suspect in three different car thefts . He is a friend of Syrian dictator , Bashar Assad , and has visited him before Issa became a government official . Issa is Lebanese and he visited Lebanon several times during the war with Israel and he was'nt a government official . Maybe someone should investigate the official republican investigator .

I'll ay this about the ACA in the words of Woodrow Wilson:I would rather be involved in a cause that failed but ultimately succeeded than a cause that succeeded and ultimately failed.

The frustrating part until they wake up: and realize it's class warfare and your not on the team were all screwed. Why ate you OK with the position he has being used ad s campaign tour? They're not even on your side: the only thing you have in common is hatred for our leader, and their using it to take your rights away, and lower your standard of living: what have they offered that you think will help you? I'm just curious, enlighten me

    Obamacare is a failure.
    – How many people lost their policies, even though Obama stated several times on the record, "You can keep your policy. Period."?
How many? About 0.6% off all policy holders. That's how many.

Right, like the MILLION people in Democrat owned and controlled CALIFORNIA that are having their health insurance policies cancelled! It is dope smoking retards like you that are killing this country. You simply cannot accept the reality that your little cult leader Obama lied to the entire country in order to pass the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American public.

But you probably don't care at all since you are likely one of the millions of takers in this country and contribute nothing to it. That is the way of the left, take, take, take and then complain others aren't giving you enough and that is not fair.

The first time I saw a list like that, Nevada was in the top 10 of states taking more in, mostly because of the military sites.

Know someone who had an individual policy on their kid, who developed a chronic problem and has probably seen 15 doctors in the last two years and may has had four dozen doctor visits and a couple of passes through the emergency room. And when his policy was cancelled, it was of course the President's fault, not because they have a sickly kid. But guess what, they can get another policy. Yes, it costs more, but the kid is running up bills like nobody's business. What did they expect.
