
(CNN) – The top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Friday accused the panel's chairman of engaging in a "destructive political exercise" by launching a series of hearings on the road meant to highlight various flaws in the Affordable Care Act.
Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings said in a written statement it's evident that Republicans are not invested in fixing the flawed federal health care website, and are instead trying to undermine President Barack Obama's signature legislative accomplishment.

Washington (CNN) – Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Friday that the key to fixing the country's immigration system is by making it easier for qualified immigrants to come to the United States legally, not by solely focusing on what to do with the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants.
"From an immigration standpoint, it is simple," Walker, a Republican, said. "If you want to come into America today legally, it is very, very difficult, from my point of view, to do so on a timely basis… We should be finding a way for that to be easier to do in the United States."

(CNN) - Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, will meet with real estate titan Donald Trump on Friday afternoon in New York City, Michael Cohen, a spokesman for the billionaire, confirmed.
With Trump being a vocal figure on the future of the Republican Party, the meeting stirs more speculation that Cruz may be gearing up for a 2016 presidential bid.

(CNN) - Let the jokes begin: The District of Columbia is now the owner of a strip club.
The Office of Tax Revenue for the District announced Thursday it seized the Stadium Club, the glitzy setting of the online TV show "Strip Club Queens," to satisfy debts owed by the club's owner, James Redding.

(CNN) - Virginia state Sen. Creigh Deeds was discharged from the hospital Friday morning, according to Eric Swensen, a spokesman for the University of Virginia Health Systems.
Deeds' release comes three days after he was stabbed more than 10 times in the head and neck by his son, who later committed suicide.

(CNN) - In the crucial swing state of Florida, former Gov. Jeb Bush appears to be the top contender among a crop of potential GOP presidential candidates, while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the overwhelming favorite for Democratic voters, according to a new poll.
The Quinnipiac University survey also indicates that if the two were to square off in an election held today, Clinton would barely edge out Bush, 47%-45%.

Washington (CNN) - When the troubled federal health care website came online, the key "Anonymous Shopper" function was nowhere to be found - even though it passed a key test almost two weeks before HealthCare.gov launched.
That successful test, noted in documents obtained by CNN and confirmed by a source close to the project, contradicts testimony from an Obama administration official overseeing HealthCare.gov, who told lawmakers earlier this month the function was scrapped because it "failed miserably" before the October 1 launch.
